Hawaii's Abandoned Islands

- Let's talk about the Aloha State - the only U.S state made up entirely of Islands.
Stretching 1500 miles across the pacific, Hawaii has more than 130 islands including reefs, and atolls. However, only 6 of them-
Hawaiʻi
Maui
Lānaʻi
Molokaʻi
Oʻahu, and
Kauaʻi are inhabited.
Two-thirds of Hawaiians live on O'ahu -
home to the state's capital and largest city, Honolulu. While the island of Hawaii or the Big island is the largest of the main islands.
In between these 6 main islands we have these two Islands - Kahoolawe and
Niihau. And then there's this Northwestern Strip with a whole bunch of islands. There was a time when Kahoolawe, Niihau and a few of the Northwestern Islands were home to Native Hawaiians but were abandoned over time.
This is the story of Hawaii's Abandoned Islands.

When making anything about the Hawaiian island and Hawaiian people, You should learn how to pronounce the names properly. 🤦🏼♂️so bad!!!!🤬
Before doing a video with a foreign language, learning how to pronounce the names and displaying them correctly would be advised.
I'm from Wisconsin I think the forbidden island should stay forbidden. The hawaiian people should have something to preserve the heritage.
Look, if you are going to do a documentary on Hawaii, please learn how to pronounce Hawaiian names!!!
I have been to Niihau because my friend was from the Robinson family. Supplies were sent to Niihau by the Robinson family. Some students came to Kauai to learn at the high school I attended. In my senior year, I tutored four Hawaiian guys from Niihau. The women collect special shells from that island and sell it on Kauai. They are very small and rare shells.
I was fortunate to have been gifted a necklace from there. Glad it is closed off to tourist.
Your pronunciation of island names needs some work. But good history. Thank you.
great video! i never knew there were abandoned islands in hawaii
Kahoolawe was literally destroyed and polluted on that island by the bombings and fallout. Water source destroyed in the process. It made me wonder why cancer is so prevalent there.
As a person that lives in Hawaii, I don’t think they should be accessible to the public. They’re preserving culture which should not be interfered with tourism.
At least learn how to pronounce the island names properly.
Thia video was intersting although nice commentary
Great!
Great vid
i love hawaii
I used to live there. It's an awful place only worth visiting for a few weeks and getting out. They racist towards any outsiders
@@James-sn5mg I love hawaii the most perfect place on earth.
Weren't there originally 1,500 Hawaiian residents on Niihau? Nor there are less than a 100..? seems weird.. but you say: "They are the only ones using the language".. ok.
Lots of misinformation in this video
The islands aren't abandoned. You can only live on the major islands. The rest are privately owned or wildlife refuges and would need permission to be there.
Your pronunciation needs work: Mokumanamana is Mo-koo-ma-na-MA-na, Nii-hau is NEE-ee-how, Kahoolawe is Ka-hoo-LA-Vey (in Hawai’in, W is pronounced as V) and Lanaii is La-NA-ee. Also it was King Ka-me-ha-ME-ha (you dropped a syllable.). But your history is solid.
Its called Kahoolawe
Kaho‘olawe is littered with unexploded ordnance. Probably best to keep tourists away. 😒
I’m not offended by this on someone who is on the islands but you just need to work on how to pronounce the islands names and how to pronounce other Hawaiian peoples names
Return the islands to the heir of the Kamehameha dynasty. Ali’i nui Aleka Aipoalani…
Niihau
It doesn't sound like a healthy of living being so isolated from society and current technology on Niihau. Funny people want open borders but advocate for places like these to be isolated from their own country.
They bombed it.
Niihau should be preserved and Kahoolawe should be cleaned up, developed and sold in order to pay down the national debt.
without the usa hawaii would be another haiti.
If you can’t pronounce something right then don’t make a video about it.
