This is sooooo minor but in the first 6 minutes it keeps getting brought up how the Nihil aren't called out verbally but by subtitles. On Tanalorr, there is a Force Echo near the temple that allows us to hear Oppo Rancisis of all people call them out by name as Nihil. It was a very giddy moment for me as a HUGE High Republic fan.

  • @petefischer3820

I also think the addition of a hidden-secret Force user by The ISB is such a revelation. So Vader has his Inquisotors and working against that, of course the ISB would have a team. Palpatine always encouraged the whole Sith like thing of competition. Can you imagine if The ISB had their own watchdogs to not only hunt for Jedi, but to be in place if Vader slipped up at some point? This opens up The ISB to so much more storytelling potential. Maybe The ISB were able to manipulate the Inquisotors into their own destruction, since we do not see any by the time of Star Wars. I feel story here and I am hopeful it will be explored.

I'm scared for cal in the next game. Both villains in this game turned to the dark side because of an obsession. Dagan's was Tanalorr and Bode's was his daughter. Now Cal is in charge of both. I see Survivor as taken place before Kenobi. The Path in Kenobi is run down, perhaps because their leadership was just taken out. Plus this gives time for other minor things, Purge troopers get new armor and Vader’s suit is trashed, leaving room for him to get a new suit for Kenobi, as the suit in Survivor is different from Kenobi but is the same from Fallen Order.

One thing I really like about the inclusion of Tanalorr & the Hidden Path in this game is that it gives a potential out for Cal to survive beyond the events of A New Hope. The reason why he didn’t help the Rebel Alliance can be as simple as he was busy doing good work elsewhere, helping the Hidden Path ferry people to Tanalorr. He doesn’t have to die in order for later events to make sense. And even after the events of the OT, he can decide to stay on Tanalorr rather than go out and help rebuild the Jedi Order with Luke.

I think Dagan Gera is so obsessed with Tanalor not because of the planet itself, but more due to his own ambition and connection to Santari Khri. As I see it, he was rather vain guy who wanted to be seen as extraordinary in the order. She was pretty ambitious gal with unusual science project, which was falling apart right before Dagan volunteered to make a test flight through the Abyss. He proven himself to be exceptionally powerful Jedi, because navigation through the anomaly required strong connection to the Force, and she was able to create her invention thanks to the data he gathered. So they bonded over shared victory and fall in love, while Tanalor became a memorial to this great deed and their "special place". Because of this sentimental attachment he was willing to fight by any means necessary to protect it, and probably believed Santari felt the same. But she saw his actions as a crime, chopped of his hand and lock him up, most likely breaking the heck out of his heart on top of actual trauma. So for two hundred years in delirium he fanatically convinced himself that even if he no longer have a place in the order, and woman he loved betrayed him, it does not matter, because he still have Tanalor and his power, and it's worth everything.

I agree completely with the idea you have at the end of the video, I thought about that myself too. I would love for these games to continue getting made with different characters. Since the High Republic is kind of entwined with this game, I could definitely see a Jedi game where the protagonist is from the High Republic, I could even see us playing as Dagan or Santari. I could also see a game set in a period of a more well known jedi that we haven't seen like Ahsoka during the original trilogy or some Luke stuff after ROTJ or maybe even Rey before her new film. On the topic of that, I'm also interested to see if Tanalorr will come up in Rey's new movie. I actually love the possibility that people, maybe Jedi, have been hiding on Tanalorr all the way up to Rise of Skywalker and maybe Rey finds out about them and makes contact. Whether or not something like that happens, I do hope Tanalorr comes back somehow and doesn't just get ignored after the next Cal game.

I love how much you’re struggling with using the dark side! It shows how good they did in immersion within the story, that you are feeling the SAME struggle that Cal is. To the point that you wish there was an option to turn off dark side powers. There is an option - not using it! But the dark side is seductive and even when we DON’T want to we feel drawn to it. This is the first time I’ve had that feeling in a game. It goes beyond Cal and makes me feel for all Jedi and force users - because in the past I’ve been judge mental of those who used the dark side but now I can see why. It literally is easier and quicker and that power is seductive.

This is abhorrent to both the sith and Jedi. But because the raiders aren’t one with the force, they are fully inclined to use whatever taboo technique to kill their opponent.
    Outstanding.

One of the best moments in this game is when you first encounter the rancor. It was genuinely terrifying. I know there are two in the game (and you even fight two at once in a force tear which was another holy s*** moment), but the first one you encounter just comes out from behind a cave pillar and my eyes just bulged out of my head because I wasn’t expecting it. I literally made the Luke face when he falls in the pit in ROTJ. It’s big, it’s fast, and it one hit kills you. Rancors should be terrifying monsters not that Book of Boba Fett pet/mount nonsense.

    - With the timeline, I also recall Cere and Cordova's names at least being considered for the Mapuzo safehouse. I don't know if they made it into the final episode, but the fact they were thinking about it does kind of suggest Survivor would happen soon after. Also with Vader, it also kind of works character wise because Palpatine wants him back in his place doing his job, and forgetting his personal vendettas (which cost them the Path in the last episode), so he could kind of "redeem" himself for that. Him just being petty against Cere for ruining Fortress Inquisitorius is an amusing thought, though. He just acts like Palpatine he's doing it for the Path stuff when in reality he wants to get rid of another enemy. :P
    - Lore wise, my favourite addition would probably be showing how many in the Empire are looking at the Inquisitorius as irrelevant and dated. Granted, we got a bit of that teased in Rebels when the Fifth Brother is called a relic or something along those lines, but the idea that there's people in the ISB actively trying to compete with them and make them irrelevant, even using their own Force sensitive spies like Bode (who was even a former Jedi like the Inquisitors) was interesting to me.
    - I haven't read Battle Scars but I do like the idea of Merrin having Fret because often getting into relationships can be messy, and Merrin after learning more about herself can then approach Cal now that she feels more confident in herself and what she really wants. The reason people seem to hate the idea itself (how you feel about its execution is up to you, I'm just talking the concept of Merrin having another love interest) I think really comes down to the idea of monogamy and how that's the expected norm, how you're always meant to just have "the one", as opposed to a more realistic scenario where people may experience multiple relationships and it's quite messy. Just because you want Cal and Merrin together, it doesn't mean that needs to be all those characters can experience. People who experience romantic relationships often go through multiple (including simultaneously if they're polyamorous), and it can often be quite messy and complicated, so if anything I applaud Maggs for feeling confident enough to do that (and Respawn for suggesting that). Also yeah, with the whole Jedi attachments thing, it shouldn't be a problem to be in the relationship itself, but knowing Cal is already flirting the Dark Side would mean he has to be even MORE careful than an ordinary Jedi.
    - Yeah, the whole sequence with Merrin sending you through portals to eventually take down the Trident ship was probably the most fun part of the game for me. You talk about how it reminds you of other games that have big cinematic setpieces, and I had that feeling too, there's one sequence in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart that's ALSO on a desert planet where you're frantically jumping and traveling between different grind rails because of a giant robot that's after you that felt very similar, especially with the huge scale both of those sequences conveyed really well. With the whole thing about Cal focusing more on just fighting and being a weapon, I think it's interesting that Jaro Tapal gave me the impression he was one of the more warrior-like Jedi, and I can't help but think that only rubbed off of Cal even more, even as he was raised in that war environment.

    What I'd love to see:
    - A further exploration of different eras and aspects of the force. Of course, the story would still take place during the period between Episode III & IV, but what I loved about the first two games is exploring things outside the established Jedi v. Sith & Empire v. Rebellion, like the Zeffo and the High Republic Era. Disney just announced both the official estblishment of the "Old Republic Era" as well as the "Dawn of the Jedi" era, so exploring these eras could give Cal further understanding of what it means to be a Jedi
    - Cal Kestis not dying. One of the most common misconceptions I feel about a story ending regarding a Jedi who survived Order 66 is that they _HAVE TO DIE_ because they weren't in the Original Trilogy and I think that's short sighted. Ahsoka Tano & Ezra Bridger are still alive nearly a decade after the Empire fell, so why can't Cal be? Especially since the character is modeled after Cameron Monaghan, it could add a lot of he showed up in the Mandoverse or even somehow in this new "New Jedi Order" era with Rey.

I dunno if that's why they would move, considering Coruscant was never the capital of the New Republic. (It started with Chandrilla, then Nakadia, and finally Hosnian Prime) They likely didn't consider it because of the strong Imperial sentiment still on Coruscant, on top of the tight control the criminal underworld had over the planet. (New Republic put Mas Amedda, Palpatine's Grand Vizier, back in control after the Imperials ceded the planet. And it didn't get Senatorial representation until close to the height of the New Republic when it became one of the strongholds of the Centrist Senatorial faction)
