    While this is a full tutorial, it is a bit advanced and you will need to know the basic knots and have some prior experience with friendship bracelets or macrame.
    (Also sorry but there is no pattern/pattern number for this bracelet at this time)

      For all friendship bracelets you generally want your strings to be the length from fingertip to fingertip (when arms are held straight out to either side), also called a “wingspan”. Remember to double that if you plan to make a loop start, since you’ll be folding the strings in half. Sorry I didn’t mention that in the video, I think I just said “the usual length” or something like that.

      I think 300 cm might work? Sorry I’m used to making bracelets that are about 15 cm and use my arm length to measure not cm (or inches for me actually). Try a double wingspan minus a little bit, that’s how much I would use but I know that’s not very specific. Or if you’re already an experienced bracelet maker just cut the length of string you would usually use for any friendship bracelet with loop start and ties.

      The length you would normally cut for making a friendship bracelet - sorry it’s different for everyone because people have different sized wrists and preferences in bracelet tightness, but usually if you measure string as long as finger tip to finger tip with arms held straight out to the sides then that’s plenty. But of course double that if making a loop start because you’ll be folding the strings in half.

      I am 5'6" tall (± 66 inches or 168 cm), so a wingspan (outstretched arms) would be equal to the same, correct? Or, if you measure from your fingertips to about the center of your neck or chest you should get approximately half your height measurement - then double THAT before cutting the string. I fold the 70" lengths in half & use one ±80" strand for wrapping the loop (5½-6½" finished bracelet for most patterns). I'm thinking of Leonardo da Vinci's human proportions diagram, but correct me if I'm wrong about the term, wingspan.

      Generally if you hold your arms straight out to each side then you can take the measurement from fingertip to fingertip and that’s how long for a no-loop bracelet (ties on both sides), I’ve heard this referred to as a “wingspan”. Use about double that length for a loop start bracelet, since you’re folding the strings in half for that version. I think I probably said “the normal length you would cut your strings” because this is fairly universal for any friendship bracelet. Sorry I wasn’t more clear.

    • @patternandcraft3908
      @patternandcraft3908  Před 3 lety +3

      Sorry for not providing specific lengths, it really depends on how big your wrist is/how long of a bracelet you want. I’ve seen people make bracelets anywhere from 5” to 8.5” finished size so if I give a set length to cut it may be too long and waste string for some, or not long enough and run out for others. Generally though, if making the bracelet for yourself then you can use a “wingspan” as a guide, which is the length from fingertip to fingertip with arms held straight out to each side. So a “regular length” is 1 wingspan, a “double length” is 2 wingspans minus a few inches because you don’t need to allow for the extra used for ties at one end. Most people develop some sort of way to guesstimate how much string they need for a bracelet after making their first few bracelets, and I don’t consider this a beginner project so I assumed anyone making this bracelet would already know how much string they usually use, but I probably should have explained that in the video or done another video specifically about string lengths. I hope this helps!

    • @patternandcraft3908
      @patternandcraft3908  Před 3 lety

      Usually a “wingspan” works well, so the length from fingertip to fingertip when arms are held out straight to each side. Usually this works well to get the right length string for a bracelet for your own wrist, but may be less or more if making the bracelet for someone else depending if their wrist is larger or smaller than yours is. So basically just use the length of string you usually use for making other friendship bracelets.

      I should have shown it! It looks much better on the side shown, but the back is interesting.
