      Cylenium i don’t think he was “protecting child molesters” ??? the psychologists who talked to the kids clearly led them to say certain things rather than listening to what their stories were without any kind of manipulation. I don’t think that wanting to hear the untampered with truth is the same as protecting child molesters.

      The repeated questioning may have even brainwashed the child into thinking it was actually true. Just like what Socrates said: if you keep telling a man he is five cubits high he will end up thinking he is five cubits high, even if he is only three cubits high.

      I dated a woman once who would tell her children, basically what to say and believe and when they repeated it to her to appease her she would use that as "proof" that she was right because "even a child can see it". It's pretty scary how bad adults can be with kids.

      They Hate The Truth proven? There were no convictions and there was sufficient evidence to acquit these people. I take sexual assault accusations very seriously and am more inclined to believe accusers than those accused 99/100 times, but I also can see how this situation was handled extremely poorly and how the school encouraged parents to essentially coach their children into saying things and even make them question their own memory. I obviously don’t think this was anyone’s intentions but they didn’t know at the time how to properly interview children. (And the trial by media only made this case so much worse. If anything, the media was quick to virtually convict these people, pre-trial(s). Not quite the kind of propaganda you’re describing. The very opposite, actually.) As I said, I know first hand how confusing it can be to have adults constantly ask you if you’d ever been touched inappropriately by someone. For years I questioned whether something really did happen to me, so yes I even understand and relate to the children who stand by their original complaints. Please don’t tell me what I can/can’t relate to. I’m perfectly capable of drawing my own comparisons, thank you.

So why was it never brought to evidence? Why does the evidence only say nothing was ever found in the way of tunnels or remains? I am honestly asking, not in a hostel way. I know it is hard to tell through text if someone is getting an attitude or not, I assure you I am not. I just need some kind of facts. Can you lead me to those facts? The lead therapist who interviewed these children at Children's Institute was also dating Wayne Sikes, the Channel 7 reporter that "broke" the story. The interview techniques were flawed and it began to take on a life of its own. Ira Reiner was also running for District Attorney for LA County and he needed something to keep his face in the news, so he was part of the problem. My brother-in-law was a district attorney investigator working on this case and said it was problematic from the start. He had to spend night shifts guarding a vacant lot where the children said the dead bunnies were buried - no dead bunnies were recovered. It's sad that Ira Reiner, Wayne Sikes, and Children's Institute International were able to ruin seven lives, not to mention victimizing the children, for their own personal gain. They should be tried.

There was more of a focus on "close the case" and "get the confession", at a cost of "find the truth" and "innocent until proven guilty". We learn and we move on. We might have learned some more if these people dared to appear in this little documentary - but they're probably afraid of harassment.

Yes pedophile rings exist, yes the ratio of people in positions of power being connected to pedophile rings and pedophile tendency is extremely high. The system was exercised and did the job it is supposed to do. You would think people would just be relieved that due process was carried out correctly. But evidently, many, many commenters are still furious that any investigation results from over a hundred accusations of abuse. God forbid any prosecutor be allowed to indict anyone and put them on trial! By your standards, evidently they have to have fresh DNA evidence or every abuser gets a get-out-of-jail-free card. There is an article that one of these kids wrote recently apologizing for lying about being molested. He mentions that he was never molested and just went along with it because that is what everyone wanted to hear. For example, when his mother was going to question him, he kept insisting that he was fine because nothing happened to him. He asked her seriously to listen to him, she says she will listen, and when he tells her again that he was not molested she continues to not listen. Obviously this is one case of a person coming out to say they lied, but there is still a likely possibility that many kids came out with these accusations because that is what they wanted to hear.

      Something similar happened with one mom in the Peter Ellis SRA case in NZ. In her book "A Mother's Story", she constantly asked her son if he had been abused, each week, to reassure herself. The first time he was asked he said no, but with the repeated questioning his replies progressively changed until he was saying utterly fantastical stories about Ellis abusing him. Experiments, including the Mousetrap experiment, have shown that simply asking a kid the same question each week for a period of time will cause them to start saying a false story that grows increasingly detailed and they become convinced it is true. So I reckon that mother is far more likely to be responsible for her son's horrific stories of SRA abuse than Ellis is. BTW, she founded a society against SRA, and members had to believe SRA existed without question. Those who did question it were expelled. I wonder how they took it when SRA was finally discredited as a hoax and mass hysteria.

      coolguy bubs in the Peter Ellis case (another McMartin) one mother kept asking her son each week if Ellis had molested him. Research, such as the Mousetrap Experiment, has shown that even asking a kid the same question each week will have them going from "no" the first week to spinning increasingly detailed and convincing stories several weeks on. This is what happened with the boy. First he said no in the first week, then a vague yes in the second, and as the weeks went on he was telling stories of abuse that got more and more bizarre.

These people that worship Satan don’t care about the innocent they only care about power and they will do whatever it takes to get more of it. The children of God need to open their eyes and understand that the richest people on earth are satanist and sacrifice hundreds of children each year. But God will end the pain and suffering when he comes. Amen

    There was a literal witch hunt in the 80s and 90s. The Satanic Panic resulted in many innocent people getting sent to prison. Some are still locked up today. The "evidence" was so outlandish there's no way it could've been true. Kids being peed and shat on, taken through underground tunnels, witches flying through the air...just pure nonsense.

You think police giving parents a chance to discuss this with their kids themselves, versus police investigators knocking door to door of hundreds of families was a bad thing. How do you think accusations of child abuse should be investigated? As a result of this case, and decades of other cases following, we have hopefully developed some better procedures around it. Before this, without physical proof, many accusations would just be disregarded, and that is a shameful, dark period of our history when child abuse did not used to be taken as seriously as it is now.

There is no such syndrome, officially. There are people like Loftus who have been attempting to prove their theory that there is, nothing more. So, it begs the question, why, after so many decades, have they not been able to prove it? I was starting out in therapy for sexual abuse as a child around this time. Thank heavens I had sensible, sane, therapists who had no axe to grind. These children *were* abused - by people whose job it was to help people. The proof that it was all made out of invisible cloth is that it all vanished like morning mist. Leaving devastated adults and children.

      You really do see what they’re referring to as far as Kee MacFarlane coercing these kids into giving her the answers SHE wanted. Also the medical record from the first child stated the child had hemorrhoids. That could have been caused by dehydration coupled with poor fiber intake.

      @ferociousgumby Před 5 lety +4

      Chronic constipation in kids causes the same things it does in adults. Unfortunately it's easy to fit the "evidence" to match the theory/foregone conclusion. I do remember in the '90s that some therapists used hypnosis (on adults) in order to retrieve repressed memory of childhood sexual abuse. I think it was an unreliable and misleading tool and led to a lot of confusion and family alienation. Many of the women were blamed for making stuff up, even if they were sincerely trying to help themselves via a faulty and unreliable method. But did that mean there were no valid cases? And how to separate them and evaluate what actually happened? Unfortunately, society did its usual thing and cried "witch hunt!", and decided repressed memory didn't exist and sexual abuse of children was extremely rare, which of course is nonsense - we see reports of it (especially child pornography from the most shocking sources) every night on the news. And I won't even get into the Catholic church - almost none of that had come out then, and if it had, it likely would have been met with denial and disbelief. It was the usual flip-flop from one extreme to another, with the truth sinking in the swamp. Though it was on every magazine cover for a couple of years, the whole thing went underground and you never heard about it again. If I mention the whole "false memory" controversy to anyone, they look at me strangely and seem to think it never happened (hmm, interesting) because they have no memory of it at all. (Should have kept some of those magazines.) I often wonder what happened to all those women with devastating sexual abuse histories who stepped into a trap not of their own making.

Statistically, they were much, much more likely to be molested in that scenario than at a day-care. So this probably did lead to hundreds or thousands more children being abused.

Are you implying all these people, not just the masse but very much established news people, are "naïve and ignorant?" But the sad part is according to him he had to abandon his business as a industrial machinery salesman because wherever he went, even Africa, his business rivals would tip the potential clients with copies of newspapers and magazines about the case. And no matter how much he presented documents of his acquittal people would go "yeah maybe you were innocent of this one but you did get charged so maybe you had a bad reputation in the first place so..."
