  • Tried to replace the SAI check valve which can be part of the cause of the pesky check engine light in the later model 993s. It turns out it’s kind of a PITA to replace so follow along with my son and I in the bearded garage

Since the old check valve is NOT going to be re-used, I've, in the past, just gripped the check-valve (vice grips) and twisted. Don't care if it gets mangled.
When installing the new check-valve you can just make it snug via a vice-grips and a cloth, so as to not damage the circumference of the new one. This is all, obviously, for when you don't have a crowsfoot. DO INSPECT ALL THE TUBING + CONNECTIONS JUST BEHIND THE SAI CHECK-VALVE. If any are loose THAT can actually cause a CEL too!

Hell yeah. My son and I made the tool cause he thought it sounded cool to heat up a wrench, bend it and grind it down. We replaced all vacuum lines, connectors, etc. All those parts we dry and brittle

Hi @beardedgarage - I have P0410 error code. Is this something i can fix myself without taking the engine out. I am a bit confused - do i just need to replace the SAI valve like you did or also do other "carbon clean up" like mentioned on rennlist where people use a bicycle wire to clean each cylinder bank? Apologies for the naive questions, am a bit new to all this
