    Have you already stored your ebike battery for winter or are you still out riding?

    Helpful and to the point. Up in Ontario. Thank you for not filling your video with unnecessary and unrelated information.

    Very helpful! live in Michigan and just got my eBike a month ago with my wife's arriving this week. I was wondering about this but never researched. Now I don't have to thanks to your video. Thanks!

    Just that time of year when I needed a refresher course here in CT. Thanks Ryan.
    Off to Florida? Lucky!

    Thanks Ryan.
    Not surprisingly the advice given here mirrors advice given for the latest smartphones.
    Store at about 80% charge when turning off, try to keep the battery between 30 and 80% and avoid temperature extremes.

      Exactly! And these batteries cost as much as some phones so it's worth taking care of them.

    Hi Ryan, I'm in Wisconsin as well. Gotta love all the snow! Say I'm curious if there's a simple way to check my Rad Rover's battery health? You see, I left it charged-up twice now over the winters. And I'm wondering if I weakened it.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 3 lety

      Not that I know of. To be honest I wouldn't worry too much about it since there isn't much you can do at this point. These are just tips to increase the longevity of your battery - I expect yours will still last plenty long. Nice to hear from another Wisconsinite :)

    This all really depends in the battery chemistry. Mine is lithium manganese cobalt and battery university shows it having the least capacity loss over time stored a 0 degrees fahrenheit. Definitely charge at room temperature though.

    As a fellow Wisconsin person, I'd be interested in any winter e-Bike recommendations for typical commuting / grocery shopping when the roads are iffy. I did commuting (but not grocery shopping) last winter on a normal bike with studded tires, but I haven't gotten out too much this year due to COVID killing my commute.

      Great, I definitely have some tips that I will share. Bar Mitts, a good helmet (snowboard/ski helmets w/ goggles for extreme conditions) and studded tires are a good start.

    You can discharge them at -2 Fahrenheit on quality cells but never charger below 32 degrees and is storing them charged them between 75 to 40 percent and do check monthly. If you do this your battery will last for years. Issue is most people store for months usually fully charged or discharged and they go bad.
    Yes you will lose capacity temporarily when riding in cold about 20 to 30 percent, when goes back to warmer temperatures you get full capacity back. Just don’t use in sub freezing temperatures below -2 degrees Fahrenheit or you will permanently destroy the battery.

    Okay so I got a question, winter is coming and I'm going to be riding my ebike out during the winter but-
    I've been charging the battery in my shed because if a pack goes on fire it seems to be a big fire, but that's not gonna be possible during the winter an I have no garage.
    So, I have no idea what to do. As far as I know the ebike battery I got (Himiway Cruiser) is made of good stuff but if a fire happens that's not something that an extinguisher is going to handle. So the question: How the heck do I charge my battery during winter or am I being overly cautious?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 2 lety

      Can you charge your battery inside? I always plug ours in in a central location so I can keep an eye on them.

    • @Snotnarok
      @Snotnarok Před 2 lety

      @@EbikeEscape Only in my house, which is why I mentioned I was worried about a possible fire since I've seen big batteries like these really go up in fire.
      But I'm not sure how big a chance of that happening is when they're actually good batteries and not the ones that were blowing up in those hoverboards a few years ago

    • @thetechgenie7374
      @thetechgenie7374 Před rokem

      Built a thick metal enclosure you can sit battery in to contain one if a fire sure break out. I charge RC Lopo pack in a ammo container I modified if have to charge inside. Keep a eye on it and never leave unattended.
      Usually they catch fire due to build poorly thin nickel strip and using discharging overheats create internal short and then you go to charge and they flame up, or bad quality cells, or over discharged and people tried recovering them, or wrong higher voltage charger and trigger a fire. I build my own packs usually and never had one catch fire and been riding and building e-bikes since early 2000 before production bikes were around and you had to buy a middrive BBSHD or hub motor we’re only options
      Now I repaired packs and come across ones that shocked they didn’t go up in fire. Now did have Lipo packs go up in flame as built quad copter’s and raced them and push them hard, or crashed and puff and fire.

    Is it ok to store the battery within/on the bike or should it be pulled out and store off the bike.

    Cough cough people laugh at eBikes with external batteries.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 3 lety

      Well as long as the internal ones aren't proprietary. One of the nice thing about an external battery is you can always get a new one. Doesn't have to be the same style.
