- The passing of Queen Elizabeth II after 70 years on the throne has meant that not just a monarch is gone at the age of 96, but decades of stability and continuity are suddenly gone, too. Correspondent Lee Cowan talks with the Queen's former chaplain, Gavin Ashenden; historian Sir David Cannadine; and Erin Vanderhoof (of the Vanity Fair podcast "Dynasty") about how the Queen's duty, poise, charisma, and adherence to tradition served her, and her subjects, during her seven-decade reign.

The Queen kept her emotions and her thoughts under control. She showed up day after day, EVERY DAY to do her duty and serve God and the British people. She was faithful to the end. Something we don't see in any other world leader nowadays.
Looking back at her majesty's spirit and energy everybody thought she's really going to outlive King Charles. But then Andrew and Harry happened. It broke her heart so much because both of them were her favourites. In the middle of all that she lost the only person she could shares her pain with, her husband. People dies of broken heart. Otherwise she's still be our queen at least for the next 5 years.

I understand that upon the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, her people wanted her home. But as a grandmother myself, I could have never expected her to come back to deal with the public. I thought she was right where she should have been. With those devastated boys, protecting them and helping them cope. I understood that, even then.

I do not know much about Queen Elizabeth but when I heard that she joined the female UK army during WW2 and was trained as a driver and auto mechanic and served in UK I was very impressed by that. As a royal she was under no obligation to do that. While she was not exposed to the same combat as the front line troops she still was in danger as UK was attacked a lot with German V2 missiles and air raids.

One thing that is never mentioned in articles about Queen Elizabeth is that in he youth she was absolutely beautiful.
My late father was born the same year as Queen Elizabeth. He took his own life on July 4, 2004, at age 78. He was a veteran of the second world War, and suffered from PTSD. I miss him dearly. I gave my daughter one of her names, Elizabeth, as I respected the queen so much.

A very nice retrospective. I was born in 1953 and like so many, she was a fixture throughout my life in America. I was very sad when I heard the news and am still sad. In an era of very small public figures, she stands out as a giant. An intelligent, dutiful, and solid human and leader, she will be missed. She had her faults of course but they will soon fade in our memory. I hope her son can take her legacy and extend it.

2022 has taken so much love, light, and fond memories away, and the loss of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, really leaves such a large dent in the U.K’.s life, and the world’s life.
The one thing to be grateful for, regarding her life and her reign, is how much she brightened the world, with her sincere honesty, heartfelt gratitude, elegant spirit, her kind words, and her precious smiles.
That’s why those things will always be rewarding to me, and to all that knew her, in her 70-year reign.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was the epitome of Grace, Love, Honor and Tradition. She was the Best of the past and the Beginning of the future. Many, I’m sure, viewed Her as a Beautiful Soul and also a Grandmother or Aunt to the Nation. She became Queen 5 years before I was born, so I learned about the People of the United Kingdom through her and ultimately fell in love with Her country! Stability, integrity, dignity, elegance and service are words come immediately to mind regarding her late Majesty’s long memorable reign. As a senior citizen, she really came into her own style with her bright colors and joyful hats. But even more, she weathered family turmoil in the glare of public scrutiny with dignity and aplomb. As a constitutional monarch, she represented her country and commonwealth countries with strength and immutable dignity. A new era comes in. Long live the King.

My parents as children both received little gold-gilt carriages with horses to commemorate the coronation (Keith Richards was actually a boy chorister at the coronation). The Windsors deserve a medal alone for shaking all those hands; Kate will one day make a great Queen (Camilla should be a retired crossing guard in Upper Barking). As she made her final journey from Balmoral, rain finally fell last night in our little desert hamlet, millions of drops for the millions of souls she presided over. Last of the great monarchs. Telling the story of her life would take a million years to tell. She lived an excellent life full of dignity and honor. So many good things she did, and yes, even as an American, I found her the only stable thing in the world. I couldn't wait to hear her always encouraging Christmas message. Moreover, World organization such as UN, United Nations was helped founded, with cleverly drawn charters, by the West; only after they have had enough of practicing centuries-long global Slavery, Colonization and Colonialism; in such a way so as to;
- keep their accumulated wealth to themselves,
- their accumulated crimes not to get prosecuted by their former victims. 😔
