    I did start playing my first mmorpg Ultima Online 1999. After that many others: Asheron’s Call, Starwars Galaxy, Everquest 2, Anarchy Online, The Lord of the Rings Online, Rift, Ryzom, Guild Wars 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft.
    Today the Elderscrolls Online is my favorite and the only mmorpg I am playing for the moment. I feel that I don’t have to rush throw the content and I can do the things in my own pace. I listen to the quest givers and read the books. This makes me more immersed in the Elders scrolls world.

    I played ESO when it had a terrible launch for a year and also when Tamerial Unlimited came out letting you go anywhere and content scaling. I had fun both times but havent played since they added so many zones and expansions. I loved this game and honestly loved how I could be a lower level and destroy higher levels in duels depending on how you alloted your points. However, I stopped playing and because of the investment it takes to really immerse yourself into game and gear up. I will never go back. Although, I do recommend this to people.

    Here's the truth. For a new player ESO is the best fantasy rpg mmo. For a high CP player with 18 lvl 50s ESO is now a new zone checklist to complete with ZERO challenge. They literally implemented a checklist of things to do in every zone recently, and everything dies in 2 hits. The new player and vet player experience is night and day. To all new players - enjoy it while it's still fresh and new. AND DON"T USE THE ZONE CHECKLIST, just play the game and explore naturally. The checklist will kill your immersion and fun. Oh and DON"T rush your CP progression because getting over the 500CP mark (maybe even less) will drain all the challenge and fun out of the game. Unless you raid, then disregard the previous statement. Really good game when you start but loses it's shine the more you progress. It's a bit difficult to explain but vet players will know what I'm talking about. Good video btw!

    I'm a long time ESO player and I appreciate an honest review such as this, really well explained! Personally though, depending on the content that a player wishes to play, I think that the game CAN be pay to win or rather pay to succeed.
    Most solo and small group content in the game can be overcome with the item sets that are available in the base game, but should a player decide to venture into more late game content such as trials, especially trials from many of the game's DLC, which are much more challenging than trials in the base game, then often equipment from other DLC will be necessary in order to be able to keep up with other players or even just achieve victory at all.

    • @MarleMMO
      @MarleMMO  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Eric! Thanks for the comment. 💖
      Interesting insight regarding gear in the DLC being a prerequisite for trial completion. Do you have a specific example in which a trial from DLC A needs a set from DLC B to be reasonably tuned in terms of difficulty?

    • @erickremers3986
      @erickremers3986 Před 2 lety +2

      I think it is difficult to classify in one specific example, but rather as a collective. Many, if not most, of the base game sets available are, since they are from the base game, slightly worse than some of the others that came after from DLC. Hard to say whether this is because the devs want people to spend money or because of the design team gaining experience and fine-tuning their balancing skills in later game versions, but generally true, with exceptions of course. This is, of course, not at the level world-shaking differences, but enough to notice a gap in performance. This more falls under the categorization of optimal vs. available, rather than must-have gear for a specific goal.
      If one of your two healers is decked in mediocre gear in a trial, due to only having access to base-game items, it can become slightly more challenging. If it is one healer and four out of eight damage players, it gets more challenging, and so on, depending on how advanced the group as a collective is.
      Then again, most DLC trials on veteran mode are so challenging that anything other than optimized builds would struggle heavily to the point of being impossible to clear. But this is all under the flag of late-game content, of course.
      A specific example could be the Hel Ra Citadel though, though this one depends on team cohesion. It's a relatively easy trial, actually, which is why it's often played in PUGs (pick-up-groups), meaning just cobble 12 random palyers of the right roles together and make due. The Final Boss, "The Warrior", has a phase where he lifts his weapon and starts bombarding the entire party with missiles. They deal AOE damage and he shoots out a bunch of them, attacking every party member simultaneously multiple times. Now, tanks and healers can usually survive this fairly easily, but DPS players who PUG have a tendency (not all of course, but I've noticed this as a majority) to not use skills, potions or spells to enable their own survival, and instead slotting more damage abilities in hopes of doing more damage, usually reasoning that survival is the job of the tank or the healers, which is why this phase often has a fairly high body count in a PUG veteran run.
      Now if the tank of this group were a team-player by nature, they could pick up a Set called "Brands of Imperium", which drops from the White Gold Tower (I know this is a bad example because the Imperial City DLC is free, but the principle remains) and grants the wearer and people around them a large damage shield on a long cooldown when the wearer takes damage, helping their teammates survive.
      The basic principle is that the more challenging some content becomes in the lategame, the closer your build needs to be to "optimal" to make enough of an impact on your own to contribute to the team effort. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and if one wishes to play really challenging content, or, divines forbid, join a prog group, then optimal gear is required, often in a collaborative sense so that everyone gives their best, to the point of reaching "best in slot builds", where every piece of gear is optimized to the point of picking up the best sets from every source possible and using only top-of-the-line equipment for the sake of collective success.
      However, this entire point is obviously void if only a solo/four-person dungeon playstyle is the goal, for which the effort and efficiency necessary is negligible.

    • @MarleMMO
      @MarleMMO  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for the thoughtful response. I think the 'optimal vs. available' comment summed up the difficulty fairly while addressing the difference between early sets being a vestige of the pre-set build direction (in terms of monster sets & the ad hoc abilitiy emphasis).
      I suppose I haven't looked at this myself: can you buy gear from a DLC you don't own? Wouldn't that be the simplest alternative? 💖

    • @erickremers3986
      @erickremers3986 Před 2 lety +1

      That is a smart thought, one many new players don't immediately think of. The answer is: Some of them. A dungeon's or trial's set items bind to your account on pickup and cannot be traded, only moved between characters on your account and therefore can only be acquired from the dungeon itself, however a zone's overland sets are land pickups and therefore tradable.

    • @erickremers3986
      @erickremers3986 Před 2 lety +2

      Footnote to my earlier comment though. As said before, this is all with the premise in mind that the player is interested in playing late game content. If that is the case, then the Summerset Chapter is a must-have because it unlocks Jewelry Crafting. Without Jewelry crafting, rings and necklaces cannot be upgraded, which means farming on possibly extremely high difficulty modes (and even then for a majority of desirable sets, it is only possible to get the second-best available quality), or buying the upgrade materials and reconstructing jewelry one already possesses at fairly high cost.

    so a video not telling the truth about how bad eso is in 2022 that drove away 30% of its player base with bad dev team decisions?.....dont play eso for its pvp its the worst out of any mmo,the dev team drove away 30% of their player base by lowering the ceiling for bad players to get in to trials then driving away the trail player base🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
    however eso has 2 saving graces its b2p no matter how bad the game is you dont have to sub to it and the next saving grace it has the best casual pve content out of any mmo overland content and dungeons no one does better then eso.
    play eso for the casual pve content not for the pvp this is my 2022 review of eso.

    If you want to see if your build is good at pve, don't test it on players. You really need two different builds. A good build for pve is a terrible build for pvp. In fact many times PVE'ers have multiple builds (for trash, for solo, for certain raids etc). Also pvpers might have a cyro setup vs battleground (small group) vs Imperial City setup. You can however get by with one pve and one pvp setup but don't go into pvp with a pve setup and expect a good time you'll die. PVP you build for resilience and survivability and pve you build for damage etc. Alcast is really bad at updating and borrows builds from other people these days. Skinny cheeks is better for dps builds these days. Tank club is good for tank videos and Nefas does overall ESO type stuff too.

    Combat is meh which makes the PvP also not that good (lots of it's own problem), and the main plot is very very very mediocre, it has some moments but extremely forgettable characters and story.
    For me it's the (side) questing that is good, also voice acting helps, and immersion is top notch.
    Finally group content is also good most of the time, but tanking can get boring fast and not interactive, lastly healing needs to be revamped, I remember some group content not even needing a healer which is extremely SUS, as making make an entire role obsolete can't be healthy for any game.

    Eso is dogshit imo. You cant earn anything remotely cool cosmetics wise but instead have to gamble with lootboxes which are completely rigged to give you shitty items that you get in game anyways. The servers are horrible and sit at a constant 80 - 140 ping no matter how good your internet is. The combat is floaty, ugly, and unresponsive. There's barely any class variety (half the necromancer and sorcerer abilities are the same). The overland content is extremely boring and unrewarding, despite what people say about the quests I beat almost all of the regions main questlines in the game and they were just as bad as every other mmo quests.
    Zenimax is extremely greedy and doesn't even use the money to add worthwhile content to the game, its just the same shitty quests in a new shitty region every single update. They also use noob bait to squeeze out cash out of noobs who don't know better (vamp cure in the cash shop is literally free in game) The only way to get actually good, difficult content is to cough up cash for the expansions or pay the sub. The base game is completely forgotten and the dlcs that come with the game now aren't good either. Want to do player housing, make sure you have hundreds of dollars to spend if you want a nice house because you cannot earn them in game!
    If ur looking for an mmo to actually play for a while I'd pass on ESO. Zenimax doesn't care about the awful state of the game and they never will, all they want is your cash.

      Agreed the reward system and questing and obtainable collectables system is straight up bootycheeks, thought they were going the right direction with antiquities and they were gonna start dumping shit into there for collectables but boy did they just leave that one out to dry it's essentially a mythics treadmill.
      Only thing I have fun doing anymore is theorycrafting for pvp and that's only fun when the servers aren't having an aneurysm

    8:11 Hacks who yell at comrades for not playing the "right" way or dealing damage the way the hack thinks damage should be dealt need to worry about themselves... If they have a problem with another player's damage dealing, that's a "them" problem, not a DPS problem... If they need a "Goldilocks" situation (not too this, or not too that...) to complete content, maybe THEY are the problem...

    • @MarleMMO
      @MarleMMO  Před 2 lety +1

      I agree that the issue is more player-centric than a "DPS" problem. If people find like-minded group mates, the problem dissolves, yet unfortunately this can be difficult via a LFG system that selects for role instead of playstyle (casual, speed run, et cetera). 💖

    • @rasmuserlandsson2204
      @rasmuserlandsson2204 Před 2 lety +1

      @@MarleMMO I disagree completely. How is this a player-centric problem? This is an issue in mechanics. Things are scaled after participation graphs and how they perform. They know exactly how much damage is being done by players and with what sets. If you aren't cancelling your animation you will not reach 40k DPS while people are doing double that. That's way too much a gap to go "o well, darn elitists dickheads". It's a necessary in difficult content and frustrating for people who want to run things other difficult content smoothly.
      And yes, your extremely low DPS is a "them" problem because I am now probably stuck in this dungeon. If we were talking 5k DPS - who cares? But that's not the case.

    • @MarleMMO
      @MarleMMO  Před 2 lety +1

      @@rasmuserlandsson2204, in the video I detail my view which is essentially that there is no 'problem' by itself; the game logic works in a way that two cool downs can operate independently of each other. The issue is how players expect others to interact with this system.
      Some people love it. Others hate it. I personally don't care either way yet it remains divisive within the ESO community. 💖

      @@MarleMMO Again, I understand what you're trying to say, but that's not the reality. You also mistake my stance. I don't care for cancelling. It could be removed or stay, it doesn't bother me. I just want ZOS to acknowledge the absolute massive elephant in the room.
      "The issue is how players expect others to interact with this system" no, the problem is that ZOS now expects people to interact with this system... OR not and get called out. As I said, the game is designed around it now. But they won't acknowledge that it is. We're in a limbo which divides players and confuses beginners because the game doesn't tell you about this.

    One of the worst MMOs i've ever played (and i've played a lot)...it's not looking like Elder Scrolls, it doesn't play like Elder Scrolls, it's just not Elder Scrolls. The UI still looks cheap and there's no content which wasn't at least in one other game before. Maybe i'm too old fashioned, but i prefer a way slower style in a fantasy game...this is for ppl with ADHD. Not my cup of tea.

      Totally agree. However, you can tell the devs are huge Elder Scrolls nerds, so I love that, but I think Elder Scrolls shouldn’t be an MMO game. Maybe a small multiplayer/co-op but nothing massive. It’s not the worst MMO I’ve played
