Sodom gelten neben Kreator als die Urväter der deutschen Thrash-Metal-Szene. 1981 gründete sich die Band um Frontmann Thomas "Tom Angelripper" Such in Gelsenkirchen.
Während in den ersten Jahren eher das Zusammensein und der Spaß als die Musik im Mittelpunkt standen, entwickelten sich Sodom schnell zu einer international anerkannten Metal-Band. Sodom war die erste Thrash-Metal-Band überhaupt, der der Sprung in die Charts gelang. Sowohl ihr musikalischer Stil als auch die Form ihres Auftretens brachten Sodom gleichzeitig den Ruf ein, die mit Abstand aggressivste Band ihrer Zunft zu sein.
Nach einigen Vorstößen in punkigere Gefilde Anfang der Neunziger, kehrten Sodom zurück zu ihrem ursprünglichen Sound, der im Laufe der folgenden Alben noch eine Spur aggressiver wurde. Die Musik vieler aktueller Death- , Black- und Thrash-Metal-Bands ist nach wie vor stark vom extremen Spielstil Sodoms beeinflusst. Sodom selbst betrachten die englischen Metal-Pioniere Venom als ihren größten Einfluss, sowohl musikalisch als auch optisch.

@@Rockdrummer71 and that's destroying the sound of sodom. maybe that guy who operated soundboard came from that mindset of metal musicians that does not really care about bass guitar (neither in a band nor on the reh/demo/split/lp) - loud bass drum is what makes it sound "brutal".
The sound is recorded from the mixdesk, maybe a little mistake as been done on the bass track, on the live show you certainly can ear it
It's because festival sound doesn't work the band & the guys employed by the bigger companies are egotistical wannabes. In their mind, the crowd is there to hear them mix a show & would consider it validating that you even mention the mix because it makes them feel like a bigger part of the show. They are some of the worst people in the music business & that's no small feat.
@@bringyourownsnake980 i worked with that kind of people. they do not understand that they are tools (in both meanings) not the operators. both musicians (as a guy at the mixing desk - gave lots them perfect sound and almost got beaten for it because they weren't loud enough. in a small club of all the places) and mixing desk guys (i had a band consisted of two bassists, drummer and a vocalist operating synths and laptops. we were not keen on playing deafeningly loud as there were lots of things happening in our sound but guys behind the mixing desk knew better - so one of our rehearsals before one of our performances ended in broken nose of a "sound engineer").
it really doesn't matter whether it's a big festival or small venue. the only thing that metters is that you can meet assholes everywhere.

FINALLY they sound good again! Saw them a few years back and they were terrible, from a technical perspective of the instruments.
