QAKH, AZERBAIJAN - Welcome to Qakh, a village in the mountains of Northern Azerbaijan. Today we’ve been invited over to an amazing local family home where they will prepare for us a traditional meal. After that we’ll continue to the historical city of Sheki to eat kebabs. That’s the plan for the day, it’s going to be an amazing day of food in Azerbaijan!

It was quite a long drive all the way from Baku, high into the northern mountains of Azerbaijan, but it was all worth it. We arrived to the small village of Qakh, just past the larger city of Sheki. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a tea. After having tea and some snacks, we then continued on to make geirch, a local Azerbaijani dumpling made from lamb, onions, sour plum sauce and plenty of garlic. They made the dumplings fresh and cooked them outdoors under the tree. The dumplings were outstanding, especially eaten hot and fresh, and what really took me by surprise was the sour plum garlic sauce - talk about addictive!
After eating and relaxing for a while by the river under the trees, we then drove back to Sheki. For dinner we went to a local kebab grill restaurant where we had some incredible meat dishes for dinner.
It was an amazing day of delicious food in Azerbaijan!

Qakh is wonderful and its people are super honest and nice. My ancestry is originally from Sheki, the town next to Qakh, but whenever I travel to the region I go visit Qakh. My wife jokes with me saying it is my fatherland.

I lived and worked in Azerbaijan for four years but unfortunately didn’t get out of Baku much as I worked 6 days every week so only got one day off, I did manage to get to Nabran near the Russian border one weekend, it was great to get out of the city.
I remember the food in Baku being very good.

Loved part 1 & 2!! I was so interested in seeing Azerbaijan cuisine because I'm native american & with my culture our foods are almost similar mainly because of the lamb. We cook almost every part as well! Lol. It made me think of home :) :)

Thanks Mark for highlighting this country. Their hospitality is great! But I can tell skilled chefs by how every dumpling was the same. So skilled. I don't know if their sour plum is like Japanese, but I love sour plum so everything looks delicious.
