Southwest Retro Livery 737-700! Flight from BUR-LAS (N714CB)

- If you've never had a chance to fly on the old Southwest Airlines Desert Gold livery, there's still a chance. Ryan Bomar and I were presented with a cool opportunity to catch one of two Desert Gold retro liveries currently in Southwest's fleet. This particular bird is registered N714CB (Colleen Barrett). The other registration wearing this paint is N711HK (Herb Kelleher). The livery was used until 2001 before switching to the better known Canyon Blue and Heart liveries. Enjoy the short flight from Burbank to Vegas!

The sounds inside the fuselage always make me want to fall asleep. It's like hypnotizing.
I remember seeing this old livery when I worked at bostons logan airport in the early 80s. always found it pretty attractive. this looked like a great flight on a beautiful day. nice scenery and clear views all around, nicely done! rob
rob balboni Thanks Rob. I bet Boston Logan was painted nicely with this livery. Some might find it dull but I think there's a beauty in desert colors.

This is my favorite Southwest livery. I was flying on them back in the 90's. Although I like the new blue color, this will always be the best.

There are two obvious omissions from the "desert gold livery": #1. Passenger windows on this plane are not outlined in white. #2. The upper nose cone is not painted flat black.
Canyon blue is my favourite livery, but I still love this one, I always wanted to fly on this livery when I lived in Las Vegas and you would see at least two of them every time
Yeah I think this one frequents LAS quite a bit. Nice to have some variety in the liveries.

Dude, this is unreal! Even though we were a relative few seats apart, the flight is a completely different experience. Once again, your camera is so damn good that it should be outlawed :)

There still some of the Old School Classic Gold Southwest 737 planes ✈️ I miss them also the last 2 Gold Southwest I flew on I was in High School & then college at the time 1997 & 2002 that was the last Damn Good Memories 😎 🇺🇸👍🏽

Aw man, such memories! Classic on the outside, modern on the inside. Oh wait, it's still the same on the inside (eye roll) maybe just blue seats but still no IFE, just like it was in the 80's! And I remember seeing those rear-facing seats, too :) - Red
Yeah, Southwest hasn't changed their formula much since the 80's and seems it's still working great! I could be wrong, but I think they do offer IFE via their app which a lot of airlines are doing these days. Those rear-facing seats would have been interesting to see.

Good catch with one of the classic SWA liveries!! Very excellent shots and amazing quality. I’ve just now gotten into uploading my own aviation videos since I fly quite often now and I’ve been getting a lot of my inspiration and formatting ideas from your videos (I’ve been watching them for a couple years now) along with other commercial flyers on CZcams.

LoveJT8D I joined the Army just over a year ago and am now currently stationed at Fort Drum, NY just an hour of Syracuse. Being from Georgia I fly home quite often on Delta’s SYR-ATL routes and my best friend is studying in Virginia which affords me the opportunity to fly to ROA on occasion with stops at like IAD or PHL and catch some action along the way. I also maybe flying to other places that my unit might send me on orders and the such. All in all, I do a lot of flying now that I’m in the military!
Zach Lang That's awesome! Sounds like your military service will be yielding you lots cool flights. Sounds like you'll have some good chances to fly Delta's MD-88s.

All Motion Images Yeah I’ve been pleased with it. Now on a bright sunny day, shooting out the window I usually have to attach an ND filter so I can “stop” the aperture lens down. It performs descent in low light if you have a fast lens.

Infinite Plane Spotter If your plane has the gold color like this one and not blue, then you have the retro livery. Also if you'd like to keep tabs on where the retro livery is flying via flight tracker, follow the registration N714CB or N711HK. Hope that helps.

As far as I know, there are only two. There could possibly be a third. Not 100% sure though.
