  • The race to create a solid-state battery that could compete with today’s lithium-ion cells is heating up. In the past few years, there’s been a lot of R&D around solid electrolytes that promise to be safer and more powerful. In this video, we visit Sakuú, a company that doesn’t just want to make solid-state batteries, they also want to 3D-print them.

      ​@@MySUHIT It's an exaggeration but he's not wrong. Battery technology is definitely evolving but it's hard to notice when demand for higher energy density is rapidly outpacing the advances. That's why solid state lithium batteries are a big deal, because once they hit the market (and unlike most technologies, they _will_ hit the market - they're already in production), we might see the first real revolution in vehicles.
      Of course, if someone can manage to pull off affordable mass-producible graphene batteries, that will assuredly change the future forever. The holy grail isn't meant to be so easily attainable.

    While it's great to see more competition in the solid state battery market, I feel like this technology is a little too niche. Maybe it'll work well for handheld electronics but energy density is what matters most for anything larger than a laptop.

    I imagine stable metalic hydrogen and/or polycumulene as the next, next step in energy storage, EM confinement, and multipurpose materials engineering.

    Always use a slow charge for your cellphone. If youre using the fast charging that comes with your cellphone, you'll notice it heats up your phone. That's Terrible for your battery, and you're degrading your battery life even quicker with every charge. Slow charge over night.

      Nooo....we found out graphene batteries can charge damn fast like less than 2 mins...but..the life cycle of it ranges from 100 to 200 recharges...which is wayy less than lithium...but it does have it uses..idk what for..but it has its uses

    For potential outer space use: Potential endless energy source basically anywhere in this universe:
    a. Small aluminum cones with an electrical wire running through the center of the cones, cones spaced apart (not touching I'm thinking) but end to end.
    b. Electromagentic radiation energy in the atmosphere interacts with the aluminum cones.
    c. Jostled atoms and molecules in the cone eventually have some electrons try to get away from other electrons of which those electrons gather at the larger end of the cone, of which also creates an area of positive charge at the smaller end of the cone.
    d. The electron's in the wire are attracted to the positive end of the cone and the positive 'end' in the wire are attracted to the negatively charged end of the cone.
    e. Basically a 'battery' has been created inside the electrical wire itself, different areas of electrical potential. Basically a 'wire battery' or a 'batteryless battery', however one wanted to call it.
    f. Numerous cones placed end to end increases the number of 'batteries' in the wire.
    (In series to increase voltage, in parallel to increase amperage).
    * Via QED (Quantum Electro Dynamics) whereby electromagnetism interacts with electrons in atoms and molecules, one would have to find the correct 'em' frequency for the correct material being utilized for the cones. The shape of the cones could also come into play. The type and size of the wire as well as the type and thickness of the insulation between the cones and the wire would also be factors.
    * Of course also, possibly 2D triangles made up of certain materials with a conductor going down through the center of the triangle could possible achieve the same 'batteryless' battery system.
    * Plus possibly with the 2D concept, layered 2D's that absorb different energy frequencies, thereby increasing the net output.

      Also for potential outer space use: MODIFIED MOLECULES:
      More dense molecules with potentially new characteristics created primarily for potentially better protections from harmful cosmic radiation in outer space as well as different applications on planets and moons.
      Setup:
      a. A more complex molecule.
      b. It exists under:
      1. A certain gravitational energy field.
      2. Under certain electrical interactions.
      3. Under certain magnetic interactions.
      4. In a certain temperature.
      5. In a certain pressure.
      Modification:
      a. Change 1 or more of the above items to change the shape of the molecule.
      Effects:
      (When modification item[s] removed):
      a. Molecule returns to it's original shape.
      b. Molecule returns to a shape larger than it's original shape.
      c. Molecule returns to a shape smaller than it's original shape.
      d. If larger than or smaller than it's original shape, then possibly the same molecule with different interacting characteristics, and if smaller than it's orginal shape, then a more dense molecule.
      e. Other atoms and/or molecules might be able to be attached to this 'new' material, and the 'new' larger molecule could possibly be modified as above yet again and on and on. The possibilities are virtually endless.
      f. New 'space age' material being formed for various uses.

      @@lodewijkbakker3246 A solar panel only taps into the visual light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. There are many more electromagnetic energy frequencies that can be tapped into. For example, the microwave background radiation basically throughout the universe. Have to match the correct energy frequency with the correct material via QED and possibly even QCD.

      Thank you! Im so hopeful but what is there to prove that they have at least even a few products manufactured? Quantumscape and solid power are spacs which I don't trust. But want to bite the bullet so bad to buy some shares. I just don't want the company to have misled me. Marketing can be a scam sometimes and that's what these channels do. Without adding any informational substance.

    That is a stainless steel screw, not a galvanized nail. There is still a difference in potential between your anode and cathode, but it is much closer and, therefore, weaker than a traditional potato battery.

    When it comes to weight/capacity ratio , I dont think you could beat a lithium-ion battery.
    lithium is a very lightweight.
    Applications that are portable and light, lithium will remain king.
    But Applications that are no that concerned about those above mentioned, might have a chance.
    my 2cents.

    I think the biggest problem with batteries is how to recycle them. We should stop worrying about smaller and smaller components, instead make them recyclable. Even if it means bigger components.

      The 12V lead acid batteries are the most recyclable thing in a car with 99% of recyclability, Lithium ION is extremely recyclable as well. Batteries are really easy to recycle and I expect that the materials that will use could end up being recycled as well

      From what I gather, most dry cell batteries (DCB) are just metals. Usually you can just melt them down like lead. Generally speaking that is.

    When you described the foundation of a chemical battery you could have said: "The chemical composition of the potato when combined with zinc in metals together with copper is what causes a reaction between the released positively charged and negatively charged ions of the potato resulting in the flow of electricity". Instead, you babied it down. Is it a wonder that the internet if full of misinformation? Either you want people properly informed or you are just entertaining and could not care less about the quality of your information.

    GMG's (Graphene manufacturing group) alluminium ion batteries with Alluminium and graphene based batteries can dominate all battery chemistry if what they are claiming is found to be true and pacticality is found to be feasible over next 2yrs

    A battery does NOT need to come from a chemical source. Anything that can store (potential) energy that can be converted into a usable (kinetic) energy, is a battery.

    Alright battery around the product sounds great until it gets punctured if that happens the energy within the battery is released. And can and will be deadly 3d printing the material won’t stop that from happening unless it’s made of an entirely different material capable of holding in… whatever never I don’t care anymore.

    One step further would be to put a layer of solar cells on top of a battery in the shape of the roof of a car, where the roof is the battery, and the solar cells can recharge the battery as long as it got sunlight, of course.
