Andrew Andrus ~ see, while I agree he interrupts I also believe he can keep the conversation going. It’s the latter that fuels the former ~ maybe the other way around ~ who knows. So, it does get frustrating at times, like when he has important guests who are making a solid point and he cuts them off. However, sometimes you get guests that drop one word sentences and he pulls them along.
Joe's pretty good at keeping a conversation going. It's his lack of knowledge on basic scientific and historic facts, his lack of specific research on his interviewees, and his willingness to launder bad ideas without really challenging them that are infuriating. His wide eyed wonder plays well regarding a technical endeavor he knows nothing about like climbing, but not so much when it comes to the stupid conspiracy theories and right wing nonsense he offers little counter to, if not outright agreeing with it.
VigEuth I don’t have a problem with that at all. In fact, I feel like Joe at times because some of those things seem plausible. Of course, I don’t know what you’re speaking of but I’m guessing shit like Alex Jones.

@Christina Reynolds There are many things that contribute to a person's behavior. It's a complex combination beyond the understanding of some SJW Cat Lady.
@Christina Reynolds this is literally so annoying to keep seeing. Yes, an amygdala that doesnt fire off the same way is ONE TRAIT of a psychopath but theres a LOT more factors. So I dont know why you're pointing out something that doesnt even matter in regards to Alex other than the fact that hes learned to channel it in a constructive way.
@@jad7932 it’s an inside joke in the comments to take any quote that sounds funny (true or no) and put it in the Joe “insert something he said that’s funny” Rogan
I free climbed my ladder all the way up to my roof yesterday. There was a moment of doubt when a tree limb jutting out over the ladder hit me in the face but I conquered it and cleaned my gutters.
I mean boxing your pretty much guaranteed to have some sort of head trauma if your in it for a long time which is going to fuck with you mentally whereas if your an incredibly experienced climber and you start free soloing on shit you constantly practice on and that you can consistently do cleanly the risk for injury is probably far lower
In the film Alex talks about risk vs consequence. For experienced climbers risk is relatively low (still high when compared to most everyday activity) but the consequence is almost always death. In boxing, the risk is extremely high and the consequence is brain damage. they are both very very very reckless and require balls. I would still rather box than free solo but the danger isn't incomparable.
acoe Corey R If you have the chance to see it in IMAX, you should. I’ve seen it three times - IMAX, regular theater, and now I own it on digital video (so I’ll probably watch it more). I was sweating every time, but I appreciated the sheer scale and beauty of the film and the feat more in IMAX.
Joe offered to help but Alex “doesn’t even know if he would get into that.” If Peyton Manning offers to teach me to throw a spiral I say yes and thank you. Alex is a dick.
Adam Majkowski I honestly think that Alex has never thought about having a podcast. However after Joe brought up the idea, he seemed interested in sharing his thoughts. It would be cool if he did.
Unfortunately Alex is nowhere near one of the strongest climbers physically, a case could be made that he’s one of the strongest mentally. Tommy Caldwell and Adam Ondra are two of the strongest climbers in the world right now.
Jason Merth nowhere near? lmao lets see how strong their grips are whilst freeclimbing el cap or anything remotely close to that. you realize how strong his grip is , especially since he knows he has to mainly rely on that to not fall to his death. If you know youre safe and have your ropes to catch you, i doubt youd still be gripping as tight as this guy
@@vanivermo Adam Ondra has successfully sent the climb "silence" which has now been considered the most difficult as well as the most physically demanding climb in the world. and Tommy Caldwell climbed the dawn wall on el cap (a climb that only Tommy caldwell his partner and Adam Ondra have successfully climbed) I'm not discounting Alex's amazing achievement, but, even he doesn't consider himself to be one of the strongest climbers... ill see if I can find the interview where he said that. and climbing with or without rope does not affect your grip strength, I have no doubt in my mind that Tommy Caldwell or Adam Ondra would have any trouble with the physical side of free soloing el cap, the mental side possibly only Ondra (even though I doubt he'd ever do it as he is currently the best climber in the world to date) I suggest googling "who is the strongest climber in the world" Ondra will pop up every time.
@@vanivermo i don't think you know what you're talking about.. Alex himself says in this video Ondra is way stronger. Honnold is obviously quite strong, but there are many climbers at the same level. There's just noone that dares to free solo at that level. That's his gift. He climbs for perfection. Ondra and guys like Megos etc train and climb for pure difficulty.
@@vanivermo He's right though. Alex Honnold is nowhere near one of the strongest climbers in the world. There are probably hundreds of climbers who are stronger than him.
I wonder if his affect has to do with the fact that his amygdala literally has a higher baseline then normal people (vis a vis fear, stress and shit... they studied it when they hooked his brain to electrodes and did all sorts of stuff)... and I wonder if that conversely means that regular mundane stuff which feels mundane to us folk is ULTRA MUNDANE to Alex to the point that he is sorta sleep walking through this interview and operating in this zero-state of arousal

Aside from his climb of the captain, which is the bravest thing a human has ever done, Alex is a lovely, caring, intelligent, witty, human being, but a cut above the rest 😊
I liked his idea of doing shorter things, like maybe 15 minute or less videos. I'm not sure he has the skill of talking for long periods of time on his own to an audience, or interviewing a guest, but if he released short videos on youtube, about whatever, people would probably be enthused to watch and hear it. But like he said, he will only do it if he feels the motivation to do it, or that it's his path. Joe Rogan telling him he should do a podcast isn't going to motivate him, he would need to feel it on his own, know he wants to do it, and know what he wants to do. And what more does he have to say when we can already listen to his interviews and watch him climbing mountains? Anything he might say would possibly be overshadowed by the great footage that's already out there; the greatness that he's already accomplished might make talking into a mic seem mundane and minuscule in comparison. But who knows? There's still plenty of potential endeavors left for him, he's only 33 yrs old. As long as he doesn't die, he can do pretty much whatever he wants.

It’s remarkable how well Rogan keeps the conversation moving forward. His ability to contribute and modify the conversation is underrated.
That’s why his podcast is so popular
I find it really interesting juxtaposing your comment with some of the others. Maybe this is just a result of youtube algorithms sorting comments, but there seem to be many people thinking the opposite.

I bet your moves were precise and accurate.
Alex *Climbs mountain barehanded with no ropes*
Joe"Especially with boxing, because the consequences are so grave"
Alex"YEA"
I mean boxing your pretty much guaranteed to have some sort of head trauma if your in it for a long time which is going to fuck with you mentally whereas if your an incredibly experienced climber and you start free soloing on shit you constantly practice on and that you can consistently do cleanly the risk for injury is probably far lower
Kegan Gowen No he’s right. The chance for injuries is guaranteed in fighting but when you do get injured in climbing its death
@Kegan Gowen Why are you even arguing him there bud? Alex fucking agreed with the sentiment in the podcast.
Deserting Dessert It doesn’t matter you don’t risk your LIFE in boxing as much as a guy like Alex.

“Imagine the grip strength on THAT guy” as he’s literally looking at one of the best and strongest climbers in the world.
The way he talks is so interesting; very literal and with little affect.
I know...seems like he has such a clear head...doesn’t embellish anything...I love it
I wonder if his affect has to do with the fact that his amygdala literally has a higher baseline then normal people (vis a vis fear, stress and shit... they studied it when they hooked his brain to electrodes and did all sorts of stuff)... and I wonder if that conversely means that regular mundane stuff which feels mundane to us folk is ULTRA MUNDANE to Alex to the point that he is sorta sleep walking through this interview and operating in this zero-state of arousal

Podcast "from the rockface"
I would too
