  • The Aos are one of the major Naga tribes from India. They live and work from the north east Indian province of Nagaland. This documentary by EMMRC Kolkata's Moasunep Kichu explores the origin myths and subsequent history of migration of this tribe as preserved in their oral tradition. It contains rare footage of their various rituals and interviews with eminent members of various Ao clans. To that extent, it is an welcome addition to new researches on a special Indian tribe as they meet forces of modernity.

My wife and two girls need to go here to meet her family. I have never been to India but I cannot wait to go. It cost so much money though.. It seems we will never be able to go unless I win the lottery..lol... What a beautiful country. And my wife! I am totally blessed to have married her. She is from Mokokchung and also from the AO tribe. Praise God!

Yeah ..6 stone in a sangtam village in sangtam area represents 3 fathers and 3 mothers of Ao's ... very logical...tell that to the Mongsen group of the Aos. Non of THE MONGSENS will AccEPT IT. The imchens ,the longchars etc has their own fathers not longpok and tongpok.
Everyone agrees that Aos used to be at chungliyimti but people forget that there where other nagas living there namely the changs sangtams yimjungs kiamuingans and phoms. So if we include Ao makes 6 tribes. Thus the 6 stones of chungliyimti.

I appreciated the knowledgeable video. I am from Eastern of Nepal and I belong Yakkha as a Kirat community. Kirat, Yakkha word were also mentioned in Puran and Mahabharat (Hindu's Myth and Scripture). Nag means Mountain and Naga means who live in Nag. Once time Sankrit langustic people called Nagas entire people who lived mountains and himalayans ranges from the Sindhu River to the Bramhaputra. We kirat and Khas people were also called as Naga by them. I wish to know about Totems of Naga group who migrated from North India (or Nepal). I guess that Ao, Konyak and Kohrao amoung are amongs them after searching information. I am very much to knew that, Ao group is also from Nepal (North India). Please Please share Totem of Ao and other if any. We Kirat people have pair Totem 'male and female' too, eg; Kungchhami and Kekhama.

Among the Naga tribes various theory of origin are found. Zeliangrong Naga traced their origin to China from where they have migrated thousands of years ago. They( Zeliangrong) believed to have emerged from a cave called" Mahou Taubei" ( a cave). It is believed that, the first migration took place during the construction of the Great wall of China. Sinluang is an ancient village in China where once these people settled. Most of the Naga tribe is believed to have lived near a sea shores and are associated with sea products such as, sea shells, conch shells etc. These items can be seen in their ornaments, traditional attires and tools. Some of those rivers are, Yangtzi river, Chindwin river and Irrawady etc. Like other Naga tribe the Zeliangrong are also a progenitor of Makhel. They later migrated to Makuilongdi.

However they appear to be related to Hmar and Lepcha.Hmar trace their origin to Chhinlung that is in southEast China and Lepcha are just Tibetan People.
