Cool honest opinion! I just saw an ad for the product and was curious about what it did so I watched your setup and final comments. Now I'm intrigued. I like that you can print more with a regular screen print setup. But also like the "boutique" idea of this modern device. Maybe for small production or one-offs.

Your videos are the best breakdown/ review of this this xTOOL screen print starter kit ever.
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this review because it gave me so much clarity on this piece of equipment and you gave some great advice and showed why we should use the Plastisol ink instead of the water based ink with the screen printing. This would definitely be for me, not only because of my space but also my time.
    Wonderful job!!

Nice to finally see a review from an experienced printer. I've seen too many videos by people who don't know how to run a laser or spread ink on a screen. XTool now has frames and screens for sale on their website. They claim their screens can be stripped and recoated with regular emulsion and reburned with the laser. One can always stay busy with other tasks during a long laser run. Single screen prints that don't need registration can be removed from the screens to make fewer frames necessary.

    • @en2oh
      @en2oh Před 2 měsíci

You’ve answered my question about fiber mesh emulsion. I wondered if the emulsion was essentially regular silk screen emulsion but without the sensitizer. No reason why you couldn’t use finer mesh screens. Might be a bit fiddly but once you got it, shouldn’t be problem. Hand you tried to expose a regular screen emulsion with the laser. Not sure if the correct screen is more resilient than typical silk. You could also speed things up, if you wish by using a stronger (more powerful) laser so you can increase the scanning rate. A very large image could take longer than the traditional approach. Lot of potential here!

@@en2oh Now this has me interested also. I have 3 large Co2 lasers and if they could be used to make the designs onto the screens instead of the inkjet printer and curing etc that would be fantastic. Seems that the curing would need to be done before a design was put on then the laser burns out the emulsion? Wonder about the effect on the screen fibers though. I dont have THIS screen printing equipment, and we are just starting out, but using a laser for our designs would be amazing.

Thank you for this video. I finally had the courage to use that kit.(I had it in a box for a month)
It is great for people that have laser engravers(like me), but because i got only one frame, it was difficult to do multi color.I think further down the line if printing kicks off I might stick to your tradiional methods.I didn't even think about the meshpart, so thank you for that point.

Can you achieve a similar result with ANY laser cutter? I bought a 16x16” one off Amazon for school before getting into screenprinting and was wondering if I can get by with that. It’s a 20 Watt. I guess alignment could be an issue, but shouldn’t it be possible w any regular laser engraver if you optimize it correctly?

this takes forever. Get this starter kit and start your brand if you want to never start anything. After passing paint for 50 items how is the tension in the makeshift screen? Where are you if you have an order of 100 and the tension is gone on the screen midway? Who wants to deal with that? however unlikely it may be to happen it is 100% more likely than a traditional method of printing. How many prints do you get before having to make another screen? I love poking holes in those that think they have reinvented the wheel. Stick to the paths most traveled and forget that fancy laser that takes hours. I can shoot, rinse and register at least 3 screens on the press before you are done with the first. Exposing a screen takes two minutes if you are forgetting that you had a timer set for a minute and a half. Rinsing takes less than a minute to get wet. 3 minutes can be spent doing other things while the emulsion is getting ready to be sprayed out. Actual spraying takes 10 minutes if you still suck. Drying takes time but other things can be done in the interim so no time is lost. Now pass paint and never worry about having to reframe in the middle of a job or take the time to do a three color job as long as if you were doing 3 one color jobs. If you want this in a biblical sense then here it is. There is no need for tho to follow the false profits of laser users when actual screen printers don't use them. Tho shalt not use unsustainable print methods. Stick to the traditional way or get reared by these impractical nuances.

Don't be afraid of change, this is the impression of the future, if you don't want to use it yourself, let others use it, don't scare the beginner.

That thing is only good for spot colors. Not for multicolor half tones for high detail images or photographs

Bullshit. They claim the traditional.lrocess talked 24 to 48 hours? Nonsense. I (and every other experienced printer) can go from Corel Draw image on monitor screen to printing it through an exposed washed and dried silkscreen within 2 hours. Less if you use a warm dry air fan. I respect Milo, he knows a lot, but this is just an ad.

I swear I looked at this video and thought " this guy is going to break it down" only to hear you outsource the part of information I needed. My search continues and my knowledge will grow. What kind of joke is this video? So all you know is how to register and pass paint? Here is a pro tip. Robots are closing in on that mindless task. Learn the inner workings of the programs or just keep your heading. Who really cares? Thanks for all the almost useful information and the realtime video of you passing paint because that is where we really are struggling lol ....NOT

Water based inks are easy to manage and clean, but the prints fade so much more than plastisol that it is a difference between night and day. Definitely healthier to use, but an inferior product. If you want to screen print, buy a real multi-color screenprinting press and drier. You can have local shops burn screens for you that will last for years if handled properly.
Pound for pound, this system is an absolute waste of money with inferior print durability- and they over-charge for extra screens, inks and frames. This is a fad that will end up costing you way more than $250.
Let someone else be the Guinea pig.
    Thanks for the video!
