- Some companies like American Airlines and H&M have made promises to become more environmentally friendly to attract positive press and increase business. They’ve frequently used buzzwords like ‘sustainable’, ‘carbon neutral’ or ‘eco-conscious.’ But if they fall short of their goals, who holds them accountable?
WSJ’s Shane Shifflett explains how greenwashing can mislead consumers into believing something is eco-friendly.

When _being green and sustainable_ becomes a business model, who could have ever thought that this would encourage companies to fake their business by greenwashing?
Marketing department doing what they do best: lying.
The FTC _now_ wants to penalize companies for each time a product uses deceptive language? FTC: Where tf have you been for the past 50+ years? 🤔
While these companies are by no means innocent, neither is the government. The FTC is NOTORIOUS for vague and unclear administrative rules. They often keep their compliance regulations ambiguous so that they always have the upper hand, making it easier to sue and collect penalties because they know firms can't be bothered going into litigation. Firms will always take the most liberal interpretation possible, which means that more legislative clarity from the FTC is necessary.
Good to highlight this practice. Its obvious and typical they would try this.
Capitalism has no guilt
Carbon offset goals leads to so called rebound theory. Same with consumers. They buy an electric car then go on three long haul holidays a year guilt free thinking they're offsetting their carbon footprint and deserve to use some extra
Sustainability has been the most used tag in the wrong way, we are highly in need of a good monitoring system before any company/firms are able to use them in their products and services.

This is such an important problem. Consumers may not think twice while companies hide behind a mask of good while they continue their evil deeds. It shows the dishonesty in environmental consumerism and that there is no easy solution without financial sacrafice to fix climate change on the cooperate level.
I think we need to respond properly to the problems of greenwashing

Paying an NGO to “not clear cut” an existing forest does not reduce emissions.

Where is my Clean Coal?
The ironic thing is that the technology needed to strip CO2 from coal plants' flue gases already exists. They just don't tell you about it.
I have been saying for years carbon offsets are a scam.
Chinese solar panels are from Xinjiang region, where they are produced by:
- coal-fired plants, and
- using Uyghur forced labor in their production.

The only responsible way to conserve resources is to drink from aluminum water bottles, aluminum cans (with appropriate disposal), and wearing the same clothes until holes show your private parts

この単純な構造でこの不具合?と予め想定しにくいことが起きる。
新たに自給自足を始めようとしても、土壌が入手しにくい環境づくりのブロックチェーンが凄まじいと感じる。
新規参入を防いで、楽して高額で、わざと質の落ちるものを売りつけ、さらに良いものを求めて渇望を煽るテクを磨いた方が効率いい層がいっぱい。

Also, by the same tortured and sickeningly self-serving) 'logic' as "Carbon Offsets and/or Credits'... IF the Police are seeking to deter speeding (for no end of transparently socially productive reasons), THEN should they simply fine those caught speeding... OR sell tradeable 'speeding credits'; thus creating a (VERY) lucrative secondary market in which the worst offenders are most motivated to bid up the price... So they may continue to endanger all other road users - this time with officially-sanctioned impunity / license? 🤔

Companies are basically blackmailed into perceived cooperation with the Green movement as well as support of LGBT causes. Let them produce and create jobs and be free of all the political hassle. Otherwise, the only group benefiting from all this is the marketing team.
