GenerationGapGaming Who is the artist behind the 80’s themed music for this video?
All you have to do is light all the fireplaces to get the torch
Its called synthwave dark from the Envato Market man. I love this music!!!
@GenerationGapGaming, Just a quick question. When Jason appears inside the cabin, didn't that every freak you out? For some reason which I cannot explain, every single time when I played this as a kid, I jumped whenever Jason appeared in the damn cabin. Whether it's the sound or the way he jumps on screen made me startled even if I was ready for it!! Ugh, such bad memories.
GenerationGapGaming great video bro what's that music playing in the background I need it lol
This was the first "mature" content game I had growing up. Hard at first, but mastered it after weeks of going around and around. Learning the Woods and Caves is key to running a complete walkthrough, getting his Mom's sweater. Really loved it. Fond memories.
To this day, whenever I play this game and I go to the house where Jason is at I always jump lol
This game used to give me nightmares as a kid.
That noise it makes when you find him?! Forget about it!! Scared the ever loving shit out of my 5 year old self.
I have this game on my NES and I liked it as a kid. But it frustrated me as an adult. Because I never really understood how to play it. But now I think I get it. I'm going to dust off my nes and give it a shot!! Thanks Tyler!!
You are always welcome man! Great to hear from your again buddy!
*I prefer just lighting the large cabins to get the torch then collect as many medicine jars and taking out jason with 1 counselor over 3 days to make it quick. I always get the sweater on Day 2 from Pamela and the pitchfork. Easy work if you know how to dodge in the cabins. ✅🙂*
how do you do that??? i can’t figure it out
@@nintendoor1Lighting the cabins just gives you the Flashlight. However you’ll get notes at some point you’ll get Note that says “There’s a Torch in Cabin by the Lake”
It’s the top big Cabin. Go in and it’s near the door on way out
@@thebeatlesandoasis05 and be fucking careful. I can't tell you how many times I've see the torch and reacted too late to grab it. If it goes off screen, you're screwed lol.
“I prefer just lighting the large cabins to get the torch” tell me more lies.
This game terrified me as a little kid and gave me nightmares damn near every night. When my late brother would play this, id put my hands over my ears cuz the music was creepy and scary and the sound of when jason pops up freaked me out. Scared me more than any movie I've ever saw.
Lee it was a scary game. When you turn a corner in the cabin and Jason pops out its no joke as a kid lol.
Lee Smoove scared me too when I was little. Sorry about your brother.
Jason scared the hell out of me as a kid. my mom bought me this game and I would hide it at the bottom of my game pile so I wouldn't see Jason on the cover.
lol pussy
0blivi0n100 I think a lot of kids were like this and dont want to admit it. We would do anything to avoid something scary including hiding our stuff lol
This game was hard as shit and I always jumped when Jason popped out!
I still jump every now and then Brandon lol!
Hell yeah.
Me still jumpy when he appears.
That sound gives me flashbacks
Man! Best video about this game ever! Finally, a lot of people never talk about ducking while throwing rocks
I'm glad someone actually took the time to shed light on this great classic. Damn this game used to scare the hell out of us lol. Especially that loud sound when Jason appeared, it was a wrap. One of my friends literally threw the controller and ran away when he saw Jason the first time lol. Great times. Thanks for the video.
I remember when I had a powered up counselor I would literally stalk Jason, I would wear him down he would turn and run but I'd chase him over and over til he was done, ah memories
Yep once you get that torch Jason better look out Byron lol.
now I wanna play the game
Friday the 13th wasnt a bad game. It was just a very confusing game and alot of people got frustrated and said it was a bad game cuz of it. That was all it took to kill this games reputation
You speak the truth my friend. Hope you enjoyed the video man!!!
This game is very over rrated
I played this before on a rommed wii that had every single old fame icluding deja vu friday the 13th and many other 80s and 90s titles
It sadly broke and never booted up again and lived a good while from 2011-2015
I loved that rommed wii
I love the sound the wolf would make in the cave! I also love the sound when Jason pops up in the house it would startle me. I also found it mysterious whenever I would randomly go into a big house and it would say Jason was inside!
Wow. This was a suprisingly in depth breakdown of an overlooked classic, possibly more versed in the game, its strategies, mechanics and appeal than the developers themselves.
This game was so difficult for me as a kid.
You deserve more than 8,644 subscribers. Entertaining, easy to listen to, inoffensive, and you're informative. Good luck.
Thanks so much Big Daddy Beast. Your words keep me motivated for sure my friend!
Lighting up all of the fireplaces DOES have a meaning though, if all of them are lit up at the same time, one of the cabins near the lake will have the torch in it. It might be an alternate way of getting it. But I think Jason goes around and removes the fire sometimes.
The different counselors have, from what I remember, different abilities in 4 different stats : some of them move fast, some of them jump high, and some of them throw their weapons faster (smaller arc for rocks). The last one stat is rowing speed, from what I remember Mark is the best rower. Generally when a character has low jump, they have high speed weapons. High speed also goes with high jump for most counselors. The exception is Chrissie, she has high speed, low jump, but fast weapon, so she's my go to for exploring the map usually, like hitting the fireplaces. Mark is best parked near the lake and given a good weapon to handle Jason at the kids house.
The weapon speed is seen in the fights in the houses as well, although it's a bit less obvious, and probably makes no difference as most of the in house fighting is done learning the pattern of dodging and what little windows you have to attack. He has a different pattern everyday but sticks to it. He only stays around for 7 hits as well, which means that you'll do only 1 bar of damage with stones or knives, but 2 with Machete, 3 with Axe, and 7 with Torch/Pickfork. Careful though, when he's done under 7 bars left he doesn't stop attacking until he's dead. Once you learn the pattern, it's actually easier to kill him in the houses than on the road.
There's also an alternate way of getting the Axe, which is Jason's Mother. She has a different prize each day. On the first day, it's a weapon upgrade. Basically you get one tier over the weapon you have. So a knife gets the Machete, Machete gets the Axe. I haven't tried fighting her with the axe, but I'd wager it's the torch or pickfork. On the second day, Jason's Mother gives the sweater which reduces damage. A good idea to give it to a character you'll use to face Jason often, like Mark.
That's my personal tips. I was literally the only one I knew that ever beat that game back in the days.
Great tips dude! I can tell you are a master at this game. Thanks for sharing.
Haven't played it in forever though, I couldn't tell you the patterns to beat Jason anymore! NES difficulty is real :)
One other tip that's useful: on day three, always fight Jason outside. His inside attack speed on day three is almost impossible to dodge and there's a really good chance you'll lose a counselor if you try. I learned this one the hard way :)
Not at all. I consistently beat him inside when I was playing.
The thing is, he has a pattern, and that pattern is something like punch-punch-move left-punch-punch-move back-move forward-punch. Basically you need to be constantly using your dodge, and only attack in the small window where he moves backward. It makes the fight pretty long, but if you're not greedy getting 7 hits in without losing health is not hard.
Fighting him outside is technically harder to dodge his attacks, while inside the house it's possible to beat him without losing any health at all once you learned the pattern. That pattern changes every day. If you are trying to be greedy and hit him while he's moving, you're probably going to get punched. In fact, during third day you might as well not move left/right at all, just stand still and wait for Jason to get close, dodge, attack while he pulls back ONLY.
Just wow dude. Amazing.
This is one of my favorite NES games. I play it every Halloween and put Jason back in his grave. I try not to rush through it too fast though. I like to take my time with most of my games.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with love for this game. Every October I go through several games including this one, symphony of the night, and usually one of the resident evil games, as well as watch horror movies all month long. This game doesn't get nearly enough love or credit for being one of the first survival horror games, and its genuinely fun and will make you jump too. Been playing it since I was 9, and probably beaten it over 50 times easily, but I always go back to it
I remember playing this game back in the 89/1990, feels just like yesterday and I’m now 35.....lol
Same. And I'm 35 now too lol... Been beating this game since I was about 6yrs old.
This was a fantastic video on this game!
Oh wow! Thanks so much man. I am truly honored. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment Pixel Dan!!!!
dan, pixel.....so this is why you haven't reviewed any toys lately? because you're too busy eating doritos and binge watching nes tribute videos? get back to work and review more action dolls please, it's your job and you should be focused on that, not this
The first time i beat this game was 20 years after i owned it on nes. I love emulators!
spoiled brat like that...
Nice to see pixel dans around.....sweet
This game terrified me as a kid. I always loved being scared by this game, but I was never able to figure out how to do much beyond stumble around and quickly get killed by Jason. My NES Classic has a date with Hakchii and I will be playing this with my little nephews for Halloween.
One of my favorite NES games. People always put it on a list for bad games, but I think this game was way ahead of its time honestly. A survival horror game way before that was even a thing. As a huge fan of the movies, I've spent no telling how many hours playing this game. Beaten it probably 50 times at least. It was one of the first games to let you play multiple characters, have a day and night cycle, and upgrade weapons while finding other supplies to survive like vitamins. Maybe the best part is it could legitimately make you jump. The fact they were bold enough to put kids getting killed in it back in 1989 was suprising too. This game is definitely in my top 10 nes games....its not zelda or metroid but if you take the time to really learn how to play it, its incredibly fun and one of the more unique games you can find for that time. I'm a fan in case you couldn't tell....lol. excellent video
Love your genuine enthusiasm for these old games. Very well put together videos. Keep it up!
I have always loved this game. It had that great atmosphere of never knowing when Jason was going to jump you on the path. I agree that the titlescreen is totally epic. The cabin music still haunts me...
Your comment is spot on man! That music is still amazing.
I recently did a Visual and musical cover of the main cabin theme . Check it out and tell me what you think ^_^ czcams.com/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/video.html
I think this would of been a popular game if we had internet back then I remember wondering what to do
I completely agree man!
Be proud of yourself! This is such an amazing in-depth analysis! Loved the personal history with the game. LOVED the detective work! That HAS to explain the color of Jason!! I truly think you cracked the case. Also great guide on how to play. Thank you dude, this game is a gem
That was some serious research!
Thanks David. It was a lot of research but I had a blast doing it man
@@GenerationGapGaming I forgot how Rare was slumming it back in the day.
I always loved this game. I'm old enough to remember hearing about this game as a kid, before it was released - I wasn't disappointed!
Bro I watched this on my lunch break yesterday and decided to watch it again just now and I gotta say this is the best breakdown I've ever seen of this game and the fact that you really like it makes me enjoy it that much more .your uploads take longer than others but the detail and quality shine through keep up the awesome work bro .this makes me want to play right now
Thanks Marvin. I would love to post more frequently but I work on the videos when I can and i dont want to sacrifice quality for you so i take my time and do it right.
@@GenerationGapGaming and the qauilty shows brother!my favorite game channel thanks for your hard work
The good days of having 2 vcr's and recording the movies that you rented from the video store. And renting a few nes games while you where there. Lol. I'll never forget them
Good ol days for sure!
I really liked how the 2017 Game lets you play as purple Jason, the NES music starts playing when you get close to him.
I really enjoyed this game when It came out. This and Nightmare on Elm Street were pretty awesome.
Duke they are both awesome games. I 100% agree. I like Friday better though.
I'm here because it's Friday the 13th today.
Really well done! Props on standing apart and finding the value where others dismiss it readily. I have great memories of this game in the 80’s and 90’s, though it was hard and I wasn’t a fan of the zombies and birds. I think you covered most of it pretty well in this video.
AMAZING VIDEO!
I love how this game is starting to receive more and more recognition as the great game it is
Got this, SMB3, and NES Advantage from my awesome grandma on XMas. Holds dear place in my heart. One of the best Boxes and Title Screen hands down. Still have mine🙏👍
You are the man Bud! Glad you still have your original copy! Thanks for taking time to comment.

Thanks for the great videos and content. If ever we are near, 1st round on me, my bro. YOU are the man!!🙏
I love this game so much. I have a brand new copy of it in my collection.
Yes!!! I have it complete in box as well but it's not brand new so I'm jealous of you lol. Really appreciate you taking time to comment!
A lot of zoomers hate this game.
I was young when i brought this game & i didn't fully understand this particular games mechanics. But after watching this excellent video content, i look at this game as being way better now - keep up with what you do because your real awesome dude.
It is a complicated game. Really ahead of it's time in complexity back then, but I enjoy it so much. I hate the bad reputation it has because I have nothing but fond memories of it. Thanks for the kind words too 😎
Thanks a million! I've always been a fan of this game. Never had the manual so I didnt know 75% of what u were talking about till now. I can finally cross this off my bucket list after 30 years of shame.
Sidenote: I may or may not have almost pissed myself the 1st time it made that crazy noise when Jason pops up.
This has to be the best video out there on this game! I have always liked this game ever since I was little playing it on the NES just adventuring around. It's great to see such a good breakdown on a game that for some reason has a bandwagon of people who put the game down. Awesome video!
Nick I really appreciate this comment. Really made my day buddy!
THAT! was a very informative video! Thank you so much for making this!
You are most welcome Nick! Thanks for time time to comment man.
Fun fact.. it’s possible to fight Jason in the big cabins. When fighting him on the path, when he runs off screen he’s usually in the nearest big cabin
This is a great video 2 big thumbs up. This is definately an under rated game for the NES. I think mostly because as kids we were in the dark with how to play. As a child if you are playing a game and you never progress or win, you get frustrated and upset. Feel as if that was the true curse of Jason.
The curse of Jason is real for sure dantediss1! Really happy you enjoyed the video man!
I loved this game! Creepy and fun when I was a kid.
I used to avoid fighting him in the cabins on day 3 and gave up for awhile. I used to actually run to other counselors to save them(before i knew you could simply press start a switch to whoever is being attacked) I couldn't land a hit because of his nonstop speed and taking damage everytime he moved in to attack. Then i figured out to properly dodge both strikes everytime. The trick is the timing. Dodging has a delay when you use it. When he comes at you, you wanna dodge sooner than you normally would on his first strike. Dodging sooner for the first strike gives you a chance to reset and immediately dodge his second attack. This really works if you choose to fight inside. Helped me finally defeat him.
I love this game. I actually dusted off my nes and played it to get the items like you said. I had no clue you could get them that quick. Thanks.
You're welcome Ryan. Glad it inspired you to play again.
AVGN: “Laughing Joking Numnuts.”
That was a really good video very informative and knowledgeable.
Thanks so much Nicholas. Really glad you enjoyed it my friend.
This is the greatest walk through I've ever seen of this game ever!!!! Awesome video and new sub!!!
Man, this is a SOLID video for this game. Well done!
Nice work by the way.u deserve way more subs brother
Thanks so much for saying that Marvin! Really happy with everyone's support lately.
Finally someone does justice to one of the games i allways consodered a Hidden Gem! I never finished the game but allways enjoyed it a lot! Thanx! (Y)
You are most welcome Hector!!!
It's never too late, Hector.
@@brentjosephjohnson1702 with this nice guide may be i will soon! Thanx! :)
Do you know what hidden gem means, as this game was not hidden at all its well known. I love the game, but not hidden.
True story about Friday the 13th. Before I got my own NES, my dad (in one of the few good things he ever did for me, he was a sevre alcoholic so it was rare) rented us a NES with Super Mario Bros and Friday the 13th.
Well I played Friday the 13th and I found Jason in the cabins and beat him. I was still quite young and thought I finished the game after beating him once in the cabin (as in 1 encounter). Man do I feel stupid now thinking about it.
Great Video. Honestly one of the best and most interesting videos I've seen about this game. I'm currently playing the game right now, and this video has helped me a ton. Thank you!
did not know larry the cable guy did video game reviews (i kidd)..i always had a soft spot for this game. and the music is ace

I'm currently playing it on emulator.
I can't be the only one who has never had trouble walking in the right direction in this game lol
Glad to see I’m not the only guy from my generation who has a love of this game past the nostalgia of it. I owned a copy as a kid and I LOVED it. There is nothing like that jump scare when you run into Jason in a cabin and finding his moms head was absolutely epic.
Used the sweater and timing to kill him with a Knife.
Took three days, though.
3 days in the game and 3 days in real life. How did you not get someone to touch your game system.
@@retiredsnowbunnyhunterx5106 I died a lot.
But that was playing it for 8 hours a day, three days in a row
During summer, when I was in High school
I was never good at the friday the 13th for the NES but I was finally able to beat this game thanks to the modern miracle of save states. it's a really fun game, way better than nightmare on elm street for NES anyway.
Glad you were able to beat it man. Wonderful game that gets way to much hate for some reason.
Agree with ken on this. It's not really official with save states. Though I've used them so I'm not knocking you.
I really liked Nightmare on Elm Street. I think in a ton of way it is easily the better game...but as a die hard F13 fan, I will always hold Jason over Freddy, so it's F13 the game that gets the most acknowledgement from me...but that NoES game is really cool.
This is easily one of my top 15-20 games on NES. I still remember my heart pounding the first time I ran into Jason in a cabin. Always in my collection. Great review!
Wow man. This video brought back memories of 8 year old me renting this game and purposely playing the game with all lights out at night. I was scared shitless and was mostly clueless, but it was awesome!
The game wasn't horrible, but the pathfinding was nightmarish in the cave and forest. If you never fouund out the path you listed in this video for the hidden cave, it's likely you'd never find it, or you'd get lost in the forest or cave with no way to reach the kids when the alarm is going off. For what it was, though, the game could be fun, and it was satisfying to take Jason down that third time.
When I had this game it took me a few days to figure out how to actually play it. The first time I saw Jason I nearly dropped my controller. 🤣🤣🤣
I feel ya 100%. Jason scared the crap outta me in that cabin for the first time.
Incredible content -- love the blend of development history, social context, and mechanical breakdown. I rented Friday the 13th over and over with my brother right around Halloween. Even though we never had any idea what we were supposed to do, and just died over and over, the thrills of Jason wrecking your life out of nowhere kept me engrossed. Today I teach game development and history at the University of Utah... learned a ton in this vid, and really appreciate the deep, thorough focus your vids have. Looking forward to everything you put out.
Your comment means so much Matt. thanks for taking time to comment man! I'm already researching for the next video!!!!
What a great intro. I too loved the feeling of that out of town "local" video store. The aisles of VHS cassettes, posters, and if you were lucky snacks! (BBs does NOT count!) This game terrified me and still too holds a special place in my heart.
To be honest, the game isn't that bad. I love me some Jason and Friday the 13th. There are worse pixelated nightmares to shriek about this Halloween.
Like the Persona reference. Did you throw that in there for me? :P
Keep up the good work. Remember me when you're famous! ;)
Yeah this game gets too much hate. I love it too. I figured you would enjoy the Persona reference.
I totally agree man! NOES on the NES is a good first crack at Freddy
@hbk you are 100% correct
Excellent video! This is the first game I ever beat on the NES and is still a favorite of mine for that system.
This game for sure holds a special place in my heart. It was the first video game I ever played. When my sister and I got our NES in the Summer of 1989, this was the game we picked up on the side. The system already came bundled with Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. This game will always give a warm nostalgic vibe even when I play it to this day.
I remember my mom buying me this for my 11th birthday I absolutely love this game have a lot of nostalgia for it

Yeah John you gotta try it. A cult NES classic for sure that gets some unneccesary hate.
I will try to find a copy. I loved Jaws! I believe that was also made by the same company if I'm not mistaken.
It's made by LJN too yes. You should be able to find a copy. I think it's still a decently priced game.
Kind of an unrelated question, but what did you think of Shovel Knight? I was pleasantly surprised. Some other recommendation to try (though not for your channel) are Axiom Verge, Celeste, Slain Back From Hell, and Hallow Knight. All can be found on your Switch if you haven't tried them.
I love Shovel Knight. I did a final boss Friday video on our channel when I beat the enchantress. Great game man!
Finally settled a score from 30 yrs ago thanks to your video. I loved this game and I came close having killed him 2 times but could never kill him a 3rd. I was only 6 or 7 yrs old playing this and thought that it would just loop and you couldn't win. Alot of this games magic has to do with that music that always stuck with me. I love the 8 bit music from back then.Just wanted to say thank you for helping me get my sweet sweet Revenge.
I recently did a Visual and musical cover of the main cabin theme . Check it out and tell me what you think ^_^ czcams.com/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/video.html
I totally love your channel, you hooked me with the kids fight bosses video. Shit like that brings everyone together.
Think I'ma break out my NES and play some Friday the 13th. =)
Do it Paul!!!!
You aint bout that life
Love that game and Alien Syndrome for the NES. I also loved Operation Wolf, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (both arcade and alternate versions), The Hunt For Red October, Jackal, Excitebike, Dirty Harry, and Metal Gear.
The Cabin music is my phones ring tone. - such an aggravating game. Didn't appreciate it until I was an adult. also, if I remember correctly, later on there was a lawsuit about game rentals and to get around it they could not provide the real game manuals. I remember renting from blockbuster and they either didn't have it or had a cheesy blockbuster created manual. You should do a LIVE stream of this one :)
I may need to change my ringtone to that too Jay!!! I was actually thinking of doing it live....we shall see
I've been looking for that ringtone on Zedge for a while now. Where did you find it?
A live stream is a great idea!
The music in this game is phenomenal

This game is probably the best movie game on the NES. It really gets the tone of the films really well which is super commendable in 8 bits.
Cool vid bro! loved this game as a kid. Let's goooooo Mountaineers!!
I always found this game to be special, interesting and original! Good to see I'm not the only one!
I know it's bizarre but I also really liked Jason's wacky, colorful design! It's so cartoony and unique that it became iconic and pretty referenced!
It's just a shame that it's so damn hard and frustrating!
For me it will always be an NES cult classic (and I didn't even like the Friday the 13th movies)!
You are definitely not the only one my friend!!! cult classic for sure
Great game!!!
I remember when I was younger, I couldn't play this game because it was scary lol. This was one of the first horror games I played that did what it was intended to do. I mean, Jason just appeared out of nowhere in those dark rooms or when one is walking around the town. And that damn music in the game was also creepy. So, this was actually a good game and I agree. The ratings were misleading and did the games some injustice. It was good enough for a Nintendo game during its time. I just couldn't rent it anymore because it was too scary for me to play when I was younger.
Dude I agree it was legit scary when I was a kid. Not your typical NES game for sure and that is another reason I loved it too! A cult classic for sure!!!
I just recently did a Visual and musical cover of the main cabin theme . Check it out and tell me what you think :) czcams.com/video/oBuKfhZ18S8/video.html
I really enjoyed this video. I never really bothered with this game because I remember being frustrated with it as a kid but this video makes me want to try playing it again after all these years! Love your content btw.
As someone who speed ran this to the second highest place on the leaderboard(like 8 years ago), I appreciate the in depth love and detail you put into explaining everything. The speedrunning strat makes you ignore so much about the game that made me fall in love with it as a kid so fuck yeah.
love the detail
Thanks Tommy. I wanna bring great quality to our videos for you all. Happy you enjoy it!
great points on part 3 inspiration but i personally think it was based off of part 6...only because part 6 is the only movie in the franchise with kids at the camp and counselors that are actually protecting them. like jason walking into the lake cabin and that little girl sees him watching her 😱
There's a pic in the manual that is clearly Part V (Roy), the opening screen is obviously Part IV, the Jason on the cover of the box is Part VII. I'd say the Jason in the game is almost certainly Part 3. Not only is his mask not damaged (Part 3 is the only time he is without axe mark) but now with that poster (which I had seen before but not really known it's origin) I think it is extremely likely to be Part 3.
@@baronterror Agreed..you know your friday the 13th franchise bro 👊
Oh shit man! Your vid takes me back. Friday the 13th was the first game i got for the nes as a gift.
Awesome video.🤘 I still remember running into Jason's mother for the first time. Yeeeeesh.
This was a staple at my house. Ljn gets a bad rap for some of the best hidden gems. Friday the 13th and Jaws has very good game mechanics and play. I would love to see this generation of kids try to play these amd complain how "hard" they are. Knowing Atlus made this, just made this game even more amazing. Atlus and SNK were way way ahead of their time.
Good luck peeling them off of repetitive, micro transaction laden, bland, corporate approved shit to get them to try a game that requires a little thought or imagination.
Fuck, I am old.
You got that right little fox. But I bet they'll just leave after a few seconds...
Loved jaws
Jaws is one of my favorites too!
Jaws was a great game. There was some tough fights in that game. If you got caught in the shallow water area and had the battle where the only thing that spawned was mini-sharks and jellyfish you were in for a tough time!
You are really coming into your own, man. Really good. You deserve to get huge. I imagine you will if you can continue to hit it out of the park again and again like you have been doing. Good luck to ya. Oh, and the "everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face" Tyson shirt? How cool is that! Yes!
thanks so much Big Sweaty. Very humbled by your words my friend. I really try to bring great content for you and I am always appreciative of your comments!
Was going to say the same thing but he took the words out of my mouth. This is the first vid of yours i've seen but this is EXACTLY what i've been needing for content. The name got me, I'm writing outlines for a personal essay called "Bridging the Gap", about the history of wireless technology.
This is one of my favorite NES games. I got it when I was 10/11 when it came out. I was able to figure stuff out and beat him. I loved it and still do.
Love this game . I'm going to use your tips for sure. Keep up the great videos.
My dad and I played the mess out of this game when I was a kid! But damn...with no manual and only our best shot with guessing our way through this game, the damn thing was hard! This is a most excellent review and insight to this game. You have a new subscriber!
Karate kid was a fun game. It was one of the few games with a decent multiplayer for NES. Atlus also made Trauma Center: which was a great DS game.
Dude yes. Trauma Center was a blast!!! Hope you enjoyed the video!!!
Interesting fact: If you kill Jason as he kills you, the game will you give you a life bar back and let you win. It happened to me once.
You probably had a vitamin bottle in stock at the time.
Me too
@blake bishop He's not. It happens sometimes on this game
He's not lying.
@blake bishop childish......
Aww the good ole days, great video btw way your southern accent made it even more intriguing!
Wicked channel! I really appreciate your attention to detail and research involved.
Remember that game
Nobody I played this game with when I was a kid ever cared about Jason wearing purple overalls. It's not until we got older and played the game again did we start to question it. Now it's the one thing to point out every time someone makes a video.
Blame James. He influenced us more than we will ever admit.
Love the clips you used in this video very well edited and put together 😀
I dunno why but i Love this...i watch at least once a month now. Hands down the best Ft13th review for nes ever! please continue making awsome game reviews like this one. So glad i found your channel and subscribed a while back 👍
I had this game as a kid and I've never understood all the hate it gets. At least it's logical. Jason is terrorizing Camp Crystal Lake and the counselors have to stop him. Just like the movies. Compare that to the abomination that was the Nightmare on Elm Street NES game. I mean, catching "Z's"? Really? WTF? Anyway, thanks for giving this game some love. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed the video man. Enjoyed reading your comment too!
This game definitely owes its bad rep to the LJN connection. Virtually all the other LJN games were trash but Friday the 13th was ahead of its time. Really it falls short of greatness because the NES couldn't do the ambitious game design justice. To this day I have this game as part of my collection CIB. =)
Sounds like we feel the exact same way about this game man. I have it CIB too. One of my treasured games in my collection for sure!!
I disagree with that statement entirely.
There are lots of games published by LJN that are good.
Beetlejuice
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Punisher
Spider-Man Return of the Sinister Six
I liked those games as a kid and I still like them now. I even like the first Back to the Future game and still play it.
I don't give a rats ass what anyone says. My top LJN game outside of Maximum Carnage is Nightmare on Elm Street. Yes I know RARE made the game, but LJN published it so it counts. Mine is signed by Freddy himself.
This video is well done. As frustrated as I was with this game as a kid there was a lot to like. I got it used so didn’t have a manual and man that made things tough. This game pretty well defined the survival horror genre and deserves credit for that.
You know, you might even say that NES Jason was one of the first ever 'indestructible' game baddies that relentlessly follows you throughout the game with no clear sign to completely stop him. Before the Nemesis of RE/Biohazard or Pyramid Head from Silent Hill. Frankly, that's another thing about this game that captures the essence of just how much of an unstoppable killing machine Jason Voorhees is and further tests the gamer's skills by strategizing ways to kill him and having them to constantly be on their toes in order to properly put him down. I'm glad that Purple/Baby blue NES Jason has warmed his way into pop culture and slowly recapturing people's attention.
Also, thanks for the heads up on the Japanese 3D poster as the possible inspiration for the game design. Looked up a high-res of it online for my file references.
