- The Trek Slash frame has a drain tube?
You have to check your mountain bike now to see if you have this problem! I hope this video helps at least one Trek Slash owner. I recently realized that my 2022 Trek Slash 9.7 (carbon frame) had a drain tube on the bottom that was not connected. In this video I'll show you how we fixed my Trek Slash. This isn't the easiest fix, but this gives you detailed video breakdown of the entire process, so you can check your bike and fix this potential problem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just went to replace my bottom bracket and it was filled with dirt and pebbles. I just spent 30 minutes cleaning the mess. Fortunately, I found the drain pipe floating in there. This is exactly what I figured I had to do, but I wanted to make sure. Time to get that rear shock off.
So glad to have helped. Thanks for leaving a comment 👍 this motivates me to keep making vids
When I received my Trek Slash I noticed this rubber tube hanging out at the bottom so I pushed it back in. Then I saw this video and realized this tube is probably not in correctly; and it wasn't. Had a heck of a time removing the over torqued BB, but once that was removed I was able to reset the drain tube easily. Thanks for the help
So glad that this video helped. Thank you for letting me know. Which slash do you have?
No drain tube om my 2022 Trek Slash 8. Its just open from the shock and thrue the bottom. Great video, I have to speak with my dealer. The way it is now, is not a good solution.
I guess it’s a carbon frame only thing? Wonder if the can install it on the Alloy models 🤔
@@JaredHoff I found a thread on Pinkbike regarding the drain tube. Someone attached a page from the 2021 Slash Carbon and alloy service manual. And it says, "Install the drain tube in the down tube, Carbon only, Alloy does not have a drain tube." So yes, youre right :) Im not sure, but it should be some kind of protection there. Get dirt and water inside the bottom of the frame dont seem like an good idea.
@@petterlange1922 thanks for the info man. I searched on CZcams and found nothing, so that’s kind of why I made this video.
No drain tube on my 2022 slash 7 either, I guess this is so water can drain from the frame under the shock & the actual frame as im sure you know how un-waterproof the frame storage is 😵
Great work Red, thanks for share. Ride on and have a nice holiday
Ride on bro 🤙🏻 thank you!
Thanks mate. Exact problem I have at least now I can get it sorted.
Glad to have helped 🤙🏻
Also, one thing I’m not sure if I mentioned on the video BUT this issue led to a rusted out bottom bracket. So make sure to check the bottom bracket for rust and re-grease it after fixing this.
I feel like maybe a small amount of silicone type sealant wouldn’t be a bad idea around the underside of the tube flange maybe?. Idk how much faith in the flange keeping water/dirt from just slipping by and laying inside the bracket with it sitting there dry.
That might be a good idea
Drain tube is specific to the carbon frames.
I thought it might be. Thanks man 🤙🏻
@@JaredHoff no worries.. Only know cos I thought it was missing myself
Definitely not. I found this hole on my 22 slash 8. No rubber piece either. Back to the shop I guess.
@@joshuaperreault9539 some people have said, that they don’t have a drain tube the alloy frames. But still worth a look for sure. That’s why we buy these bikes at a shop 👍🏻
There is no drain tube on the alloy models i don't know why because in my case there was lots of dirt in the frame and on the outside of my bb
Seems like the drain tube would help all models. I know my bottom bracket had to be replaced because water wasn’t draining and my bearings rusted out.
@@JaredHoff It would help 100% that screw at the end of the Frame protection isn't there either on alloy models which makes it very floppy and lose again carbon only i can't explain why trek would do this 🤷🏼♂️
@@Aceton_ maybe someone should create a better aftermarket drain tube 🤔 lol
@@JaredHoff that's true
cool..
Hi Jared do you think this appen at the bike shop when they took it out from the box for assembly of directly at the factory when frame conception ?
I think it was like this when I got it from the shop. But they fixed it and gave me a new upgraded bottom bracket because my bearings rusted out due to water getting stuck in there.
@@JaredHoff allright ! But I think this issue occur when instaling the pedal bearings.... are they factory install or its at the bike shop ?
@@civicracersir factory installed
No drain tube on my 2020 fuel ex. Anyone have this problem on their mountain bike?
Do you know what the part # is on the drain tube ? I can't find it anywhere.
The local bike shop had to look that up on the Trek maintenance website. I’m not sure, but I’ll let you know if I find out
@@JaredHoff Thanks! My shop didn't even know about it.
@@TheDocbully It talks about it here, but I don’t see a part number. retailerassetsprd.blob.core.windows.net/techassets/TK20_2021_Slash%20Carbon_USEN_Rev1_2022-01-05.pdf?sv=2018-03-28&ss=bfqt&srt=sco&sp=r&se=2062-03-20T02:32:45Z&st=2019-03-19T18:32:45Z&spr=https&sig=UogJIteiFltPX66np2M0a3esSu1uZzABYHTFInUlT%2Fo%3D
It’s for carbon frames only not the alloy
@@JaredHoff whew. I have Alloy. You rich snobs. Ha ha. 😂
My bike is the same... drain tube is loose in the carbon frame.... common issue I think.
Make sure to check the bottom bracket. Mine was rusted out.
@@JaredHoff did not ride the bike, just picked up last week and had the time to install my tailored ridewrap.
@@civicracersir awesome! That ride wrap is a must
