That's what what I've been saying! Bring the ENTIRE cast. Gameplay should have both boots on the ground infantry, tank, and of course the arwing. Ground combat will involve a semi-open world kinda like Deus Ex or Mass Effect: Andromeda (minus the "tired" faces and bugs from Andromeda.) Arwing combat should always be All-range mode with open world space to explore. Maybe with bounty hunting, escorting cargo ships, or answering random distress calls. You know, the freelancer mercenary life! In a nutshell: semi open world for ground and full on open world exploration for space.

I actually enjoy the WiiU Game Pad. I don't get the hate over it, as it was more like a traditional controller then the Wii remote was. I felt gamers & third party developers didn't give it a chance. It's microphone was ideal for online play. It's touchscreen would've been ideal for porting PC games. (Minecraft not utalizing it was baffling.) And it still has traditional button controls too for "normal" games.

@@paulhampel9037 After experimenting in training mode, I can say you can get use to the controls thanks to the minus button swaping screens, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is HARD!!!!!! This game is not Starfox 64, it's more like Starfox 1993 on level 3 hard mode where the game can get incredibly hard. Starfox zero is just as painful, except this time there is no easy mode. Meaning unless you like playing training mode a lot, this game doesn't make things easy for you.
The good news is that unlike Starfox 64 where the training mode was short, Zero's training mode is more repayable and fun.

Forcing the motion controls and looking up at down at the gamepad? Really?

    • @Tjerty
      @Tjerty Před 2 lety +1

A bit too different, if I might add. There's a certain level of expectancy when you have a running videogame series.
With Star Fox, they completely obliterated that expectancy and that's why the series is where it's at now. I've seen people say before that the games are good because they're different from 64, but if different is what you want then why not just play a different series? Zelda exists, and so Adventures isn't needed and Assault is _only_ meh. Easily the best part about Assault is the music. So I ask this.
Star Fox 64 was already giving us something that other series from Nintendo weren't so why should they take that away and make something different? Just improve it instead, would have been the big IQ move.

main problem with zero, which Im surprised you didn't mention at all, is that the game is literally three hours long, and the last boss takes 1/3 of it. And unlike 64, there aren't any branching/optional paths/planets, so you always go through same planets in set order. and this shit was sold as full price release too.
Also another issue is that for some reason it uses both gamepad and tv audio too, so if you want to use headphones, you either get voices or music+sound effects, unless you mix the audio through your computer or mixing table like I did lol. This wouldn't be an problem if they just gave us option to have all audio to go through one place.

Once you had "Space Battleground" on as the BGM, I had to confirm a suspicion... and yep, you're pretty spot-on, Zero ends up feeling comparatively bland to older titles. The dogfight sequences in StarFox Assault (a *GameCube* title developed by Namco, mind you) were probably the design pinnacle of StarFox's traditions, moreso Mission 1 than the other stages. A bombastic analog-orchestral soundtrack, slick mechanical designs, smooth animations, and lasers and explosions that evoke the same tingling feeling from watching the fleet battles in Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These. I know a lot of us were hoping for a return to or a reiteration of that kind of oomph, because the Wii U could totally handle that, and the franchise has been dry on that for a while. But... well...

I feel like Star Fox has a similar design problem to Sonic. Because the game is so fast, it ends up being short because the stages have to be huge for them to last more than a minute, so there's less stages, because large stages take so much money to make. So, inevitably, they have to pad out the game with not-Star Fox stuff (i.e. the Landmaster, on-foot missions in Assault, etc) to make it longer than 30 minutes, and most people don't care for this stuff in comparison to the Arwing. The main reason why Star Fox Adventures is the only Star Fox game that's over three hours long is because it's not a Star Fox game, gameplay-wise.

I have an idea for a new star fox game:
It starts out with fox betraying the organisation he works for. maybe he discovers some shady practices they use to stay in power, or something along those lines, or maybe he just ends up stranded far away in another galaxy outside of the jurisdictionof his organization, and this new galaxy happens to have a not so nice government. whatever the case fox joins a gang of revolutionaries to liberate the galaxy.
The gameplay would focus less on the on-rails action segments and instead would take place on a series of small open world planets and moons each with different strategic advantages and resources, and the planets would be divided even further into cities, and bases, among other things(oil plants/resource harvesting areas like mines for example) to add more strategy ,and more things to think about to the game.
The game would focus more on strategy and organising attacks rather than the big action set pieces of previous games, and now you would have to plan where, and how you strike, and you would have to think about things like, how far is the thing you want to attack from one of your bases, do you have enough fighters, what's their advantages based on terrain, and what's the best direction to attack from? You would also need to defend previously captured bases, which would lend itself to you having to make sacrifices if the enemy attacks somewhere when you're in the middle if an assault, and say you're resources are stretched too thin to handle both things at once, it would lead to you having to make strategic decisions and sacrifices for the long run. It really would be more of a game based on learning to work with the resources available to you to overcome a more powerful enemy. This would fit the revolution theme, and would make you really feel like the leader of a rag-tag group of rebels.
Despite the emphasis on strategy there would still be plenty of action. You would need to go out and fight on the missions you plan, and this part of the game would play more like typical star fox, but a little more involved, with you being able to pick certain troops to take on certain missions, and try to match an individual soldiers stats to a certain mission, and match a troop to an appropriate vehicle and stuff like that( think metal gear solid 5, but toned down with less menus and simplified)
This gameplay loop would lend itself to excellent replayability, because you would never get the exact same scenario twice. Every playthrough would be different with different sides winning different battles, with different resources available. All together it would keep the gameplay feeling fresh because you never know what might go wrong, and you never know when you're going to have to completely rethink your strategy.
It would combine elements from real time strategy, tower defense, shooting action, resource management, base building, and war simulator, and I think taking the core starfox gameplay, and adding this kind of twist to it could make it much more engaging. while having the negative side effect of being less accessible to the casual gamer I think this could be exactly the kind of change the franchise needs to re-spark passion for the series.

Something most people don't realize is that QGames is actually composed of members from Argonaut Software, the company that was responsible for helping to co-develop the original Star Fox, Stunt Racer FX, and the then-unreleased Star Fox 2 with Nintendo back from 1992 to 1995. After Argonaut Software went belly up in the early 2000s following the commercial flop of their underrated 6th-gen game, i-Ninja, Dylan Cuthbert (who had left Argonaut to continue working with Nintendo) hired on some of the people who had worked with him and Nintendo on Star Fox and they got to work making games for Nintendo (including Star Fox Command and others) as Q-Games.
Argonaut had originally attracted Nintendo's attention with their basic 3D game X (a successor to the earlier game Starglider) which was running primitive 3D graphics on a Nintendo Game Boy. Dylan Cuthbert was the programmer on that game. His work in 3D graphics laid the foundation for Nintendo's eventual jump into 3D, as the 3D library he wrote for Star Fox would go on to power the 3D engines for Nintendo's N64 games.
