    Trivia: This is the final episode of my Okinawa trip. I hope you enjoyed it. Have you realized that I said "Let's begin!" instead of "Let's go!" or "Let's get started!" which I normally say in the opening talk? There is a very famous Okinawa musician group called "Begin" and that was my way of showing my respect for them. They sing Okinawa melodies or should I say "they sing in Okinawa scale" and their songs are very unique and different from other JPOP. It's not too much to say you need their music to complete your Okinawa experience.

    I swear every time I look for walks through Mihama there are new buildings or establishments.
    Like 16:12, this is all new to me. Last time I was there was in 2007, so I think they were still doing the construction to reclaim the land where the shallow ocean was.

    Thanks for the video. I lived in Okinawa as a military brat when I was 3-10 years old and then later 13-19 years old. The seawall right behind American Village was a popular area for afterschool activities (namely underage drinking and smoking) on Friday nights before the "Depot Island" section of it was built. Security was laxer as a result of there not being as many tourists. Around the time I moved away from Okinawa most of "Depot Island" had already been constructed but not to the extent I see in the video. I do miss living in Okinawa and it's nice to see how the area looks now.

    If you do go there, eat where the locals eat, go a little outside the village and you can find better food, good place to base yourself, I find Naha a little hectic and its not central like Chatan is to the rest of the island, Also get a rent a car, so easy to island hop and get around otherwise, but bus into Naha from Chatan as the parking can be hectic, easier on foot and plenty of buses.

    What is your overall feeling about Okinawa? In Tokyo, I feel an energy, a soul, a presence. I never went to Kyoto or Osaka, but though the video I saw of those places, there is the same energy. Here, I feel nothing. Unless I missed it, I didn't see a shrine or a temple.

    • @VSV_Japan
      @VSV_Japan  Před 4 lety

      I wrote a reply but it's gone! 😱Let me write again...
      I think it's because there were no people on the streets. People create energy. But current Okinawa doesn't have it. There used to be so much energy on Kokusai-dori whose video I uploaded a few days ago. You were able to hear Okinawa music played live everywhere especially in restaurants. The whole atmosphere was like Hawaii kind of resort atmosphere. It was open, laid-back and fun. But corona changed everything. I hope Okinawa can recover soon.

      1- Tokyo has a BIG population xddd like you are comparing a BIG Town.
      To a island with beach and all.
      Of course it's different. .-.
      2- It's freaking COVID xdddd in summer or during vacation time I'm pretty sure there is a lot of ppl. Because it's different of Tokyo so Japanese will go to Okinawam

    • @MartialBachoffner
      @MartialBachoffner Před 3 lety

      @@somalionnet6278 I was talking about the feeling in general, not related to the density of the population. I like also Kamakura, who is a small city. Maybe I will have the opportunity to go to Okinawa myself and see what's there.
