  • Day 2 of our motorbike road trip across Cambodia brought us to Battambang. This Cambodian city surprised us a lot. We met some friendly locals, tried great local Khmer food Lok Lak for the first time, witnessed shocking memorials remembering Cambodia's dark history and saw unbelievable natural wonders at the Battambang bat caves. We only spent a day in Battambang but this riverside city has so much more to offer, from beautiful French colonial architecture, ancient temples and fun activities for tourists such as the famous bamboo train, Battambang is definitely an underrated tourist destination and should be on your list of places to visit next time you're in Cambodia.

Thanks for visiting my motherland . Born and raised in the USA. My mom lived through that horror of the khmer Rouge as a teenager. And manage to escape to USA. My dad was from Southern Vietnam and lived through the war and escaped as a teenager. I've never been to Cambodia. But is planning going there sometimes next year.

Four years ago, as I visited the Buddha statue, it was still a work in progress, shrouded in construction materials and scaffolding. Despite the veil of construction, I was able to catch a glimpse of the magnificent bat cave and the partially visible statue, which stood tall and proud. The beauty of the evening as the bats gracefully took flight with the setting sun has left an indelible impression in my memory. It was a frozen moment in time, forever frozen in its beauty. And let's not forget the delicious rice bowl from the restaurant across from the statue. Thank you for this video which brings the majestic Buddha statue to life.

Before the Cambodian genocide, Battambang was actually a renowned cultural and pop center in Southeast Asia. During the 1960s famous Cambodian singers like sinn sisamouth and ros sereysothea stayed and produced albums there and many poets, actors and musicians were from Battambang. Movies and cinema in Cambodia went on to win international awards at the Asian film awards in the late 1960s and were really popular in Thailand and Hong Kong - Cambodian movies were viewed by more people outside of Cambodia than inside until the Khmer Rouge. Battambang has a nice image in the hearts of many Cambodians

Were there many foreiners in Battambang? I was there in June 2022 and I counted around 5 in the 2 days I was there. It was still very quiet it Siam Reap also. I rented a bike in Battambang and rode a lap around Tonle Sap. I had a bit of an adventure as it seized the engine on the other side of Tonle Sap. I was very lucky as there was a workshop a few hundred meters away, who rebuilt the engine in around 5 hrs. I left, only for it to do nearly the same 2 hrs later when the sump plug fell out that they obviously forgot to tighten haha.,.....was an interesting trip. The previous time in 2020, I was there just before most international travel was restricted....lots of people were starting to freak out. It was good to see them getting back to normal. I am back there again in a few weeks, so be interesting to see how much more busy it has got!

You guys should see the killing fields. I know it's really sad and shocking but it is a great way to pay respect to those who went through one of the worst genocides of all history. It took me a whole week staying in Phnom Penh to prepare myself mentally for the experience as I was already knew quite a bit about Pol Pots reign, but to see the places and feel the energy is a whole other experience than simply reading about it. Imho of course. Happy Travels

The Khmer Rouge was not the only era Cambodia experienced intellectual subversion. The entire government of Cambodia was filled with the Chu-Han in the area under the Vietnamese controlled before the French protectorate. The French continued to employed those Vietnamese administrators and passed on to Norodom Sihanouk during Cambodia independent. The Cabal continued to attacked Norodom Sihanouk administration and eventually succeed and unleashed the greatest genocide era in Southeast Asia history. Today, most of Cambodia history are distorted because no historian ever written about who was the Chu-Han. The Chu-Han were actually the Mandarin and they were assigned to governed Cambodia from Hue of Vietnam by the Nguyen imperialist. There were Chu-Nom and Chu-Han and Nguyen Phuc Anh adopted the Chu-Han as administrating language to governed all territory under Vietnam control. Therefore, without knowing the Mandarin were actually the Chu-Han from Hue, Cambodia will never know who was killing them.
