Sportster 48 Gas Tank upgrade!

- In order to get a bit more range on my 48... I decided to install a custom 3.3 gallon tank! Check it out

As long as the tank is the same shape, its cool. An extra gallon of capacity is a big difference
An extra gallon was the difference between carrying fuel cans and not carrying fuel cans for my favorite in Texas

Looks really nice. A good option for those considering a 48. I watched your video of the risers. Definitely another plus on the 48 if needed. These items really open the customer base to this great bike.
I would search for a comfy solo seat. Saddleman Explorer maybe.
Little higher tank looks better than the original. Shape of the bike looks perfect after tank replacement.

In my opinion Gas Tank of 48 Is The soul of this model If you change It, The forty eight lost a lot of His autenticity. So I'll choose The original gas Tank
Paul Velazquez fair enough... i wanted that extra range! I couldn’t do my favorite 100 mile loop in texas with 48 tank unless i carried an extra gallon of fuel in a can! Not cool! That’s primarily the reason for the change and of course to make it a one of a kind bike

oeddie83 no issues at all! 2 minor Inconveniences are:
The tank needs body work! So make sure you have a good painter to work on it... it will need sanding and priming...
2 ... the fuel pump goes in the opposite side of the stock one..: 4$ in longer fuel hoses from autozone solves that.

your bike looks awesome, i have a question, is the tank tested for pressure ? do i need to make any inner work ( primer coat) ? or just go for paint job and install it ? thanks
Kareem Gamal thanks... the tank comes ready for fuel but it will definitely need more than just paint on the outside... they come primed but thats just for corrosion prevention ... sanding and body work is needed, reprime, top coat and clear or course.

Kevin Yang 125 for the tank and bout 280$ on the paint... it was a bit more than planned because tank needed body work and sanding and all that

Hi there… seat is the biltwell sporty 8 seat. Can be purchased anywhere they sell biltwell brand and the tank was from Amazon and i had it worked and painted in San Antonio. Place called zombie paint

Hey I love the bike and the tank how many miles more you get with that tank ?? Just curious, looking to do upgrade I was thinking of doing 4.5 but I think I might just go your route

So how many miles do you get to a tank now I would think at least 120 miles let me know I'm in process of getting the same tank 3.3 gallon

Dony Lee yes... i just went to local auto part store and got some rubber fuel line for it. Super cheap! But yes! I forgot to mentioned that in the video

Dony Lee i took the one from bike to oreilys and asked for a couple feet of similar hose. As long as its for fuel... you will be fine.

Its an ebay tank… comes pretty raw and needs tons of work.

Its been some years but i got it in ebay. Just search sportster fuel tank... comes raw and does need sanding and work! So make sure you have a good body tech
Its ok brother nuce horse u should of just got a 4.5 gal and killed many birds with 1 stone
I wanted to keep the peanut tank look and not change the style too much. The 4.5 would have definitely be better for longer rides

I got it in ebay and it doesn’t come even close to finished nor ready for paint. Ckout some of the comments here where i shared the link when I bought it.
You said it’s a lot higher then the stock tank.but is it also WIDER then the stock 2.2 tank?
pracata732 nothing crazy if its... the capacity it’s obtained with the height... I didnt have to worry about clearance or anything concerning width

Jaime Arturo Olvera yes! I bought mine in ebay! Be advised... the pump is in the other side so you need longer fuel hoses... a couple of inches... thats like 3$ ... also... the tank doesn’t come ready for paint! Needs bodywork , primer and then paint...

Tank Looks amazing... So questions,... Did you have to seal the inside? I heard the screw holes on the pump seal are poorly made? What other cons did you find? Espeacially since youve been riding with that tank for a while now. Thank you for your time. Be safe.
TheBLINDGIANT worked out well... i use the harley gasket with all the stock hardware with no issues. Bumps in the process were ... tank is not close to be finished... you need a person that can do some good body work! Need sanding and evening out and priming prior to paint. Also, the pump hole is in the opposite side so i had to reroute the hoses... 3-5$ in hoses from auto zone ... everything else went smooth !

Keep in mind it comes raw with a coat that is more for corrosion prevention than anything! It has to be taken to someone that can do some bodywork to it.

I dont anymore since I bought it in ebay. But you can search ebay for sportster fuel tank and a 3.3 gal should come up. They come raw and do need body work and prep prior to painting.

Juan Hernandez Amazon... they come with a “primer” on it but the tanks are not even close to finished... i had to pay for the body shop to fix! Needed some work for sure....just keep that in mind
