Hey, one of Faithful's managers here. Faithful has been probably one of the largest victims of Marketplace product theft. Our case is an unfortunate one as we took a long delay of time to recover contact with Vattic (original creator of Faithful) to finally sort this all out. Some of us weren't even in the community before we tried to regain contact. Ever since our case got exposed, numerous other questionable products were highlighted on the marketplace. Covering this topic is always great to see. I can't even begin to outline all of the problems we have been having with Mojang, particularly with its apparent refusal to cut ties with its creators when they are knowingly and willingly causing trouble for financial gain. It's a really shitty situation to deal with.

The rates don't surprise me at all, look at Robloxs split, or the rampant copyright infringement lol... Shock. Outrage. Etc.
Meanwhile, Spotify cuts are literally fractions of a penny per stream. Musicians make most of their money from touring. Streaming is the biggest way music is consumed today, and yet musicians get barely a fraction of the cut from streaming. Streaming income is essentially meaningless for a musician.
What I'm getting from all this: all creators are consistently getting screwed, while distributors are taking the majority of the cut. It's worse today than it ever was before.

I had that issue once with a my own imported skin on The HIve. Apparently, if the bottom layer is transparent (even if the top layer isn't), one of their store skins will replace yours. Some years ago, the skin that I was using randomly stopped working one day (being replaced by one of The Hive's skins), so I had to troubleshoot by changing skins while actually on the server (as opposed to setting the skin in Minecraft's main menu, then joining the server). Doing this gave me a nice pop-up saying something like "your skin is illegal", so I fixed the skin by dumping the color gray on the entire bottom skin layer, and "reported" the issue to The Hive.
You seeing this exact effect on another server might mean two things: 1. It's an interface made by Mojang that the server can use to stop "illegal" skins, and 2. Mojang have not fixed it for years.
To be fair though, my skin image was out of the normal convention, but the bottom layer's transparent pixels could have been rendered fully black like how full blocks with transparent textures (supplied by a resource pack) render fully black, or by how the Java Edition renders the bottom layer of skins black even if they are transparent.

There are some things behind a paywall in Java modding stuff. Though only one that comes to mind is the ray tracing SEUS pack for a patreon tier mainly due to being in heavy development still.

You don’t even want to start on how the bugs in the marketplace exist, I once brought a skin pack the money cane out my bank account fully purchased the pack and when I tried to wear the skins it kept bugging out
For 6 months after I brought a Star Wars pack I couldn’t use it and when I contacted Microsoft they essentially said “buy it again”
I have no brought anything from the marketplace since and never will

This Is why I haven’t returned to Minecraft since the 360 days until now. Playing Minecraft on console is just so different now that everytime I tried to get back into it it just didn’t feel the same. Now that I have a pc I decided to give Java a try and it was like I was 12 again, I’m still tryna learn everything I missed out since then but atm I’m happy playing Minecraft again.

Of course you should buy The Dogsteve map and skin pack as obviously it's the only legit and also the best set of item on the marketplace

This all "stolen content" is actually kind of complicated, specially for skins. Lets say that I make a bot that is able to make and upload to some accounts every possible minecraft skin that can ever be made. From that moment I have some kind of "rights" over any skin that was made by my bot and anyone else can't sell this skins on the marketplace anymore? It seems kinda bizarre to me, am I right?

There's always going to be false negatives and false positives for copyright so i have a question.
Would you rather have a copyright system like youtube or like minecraft marketplace? Because i lean towards the marketplace despite the flaws.

I understand your veiwpoint but the marketplace should be a tad better saying that it took a week for a minecraft developer to his own stolen content unlisted (you can still buy it if you have a link). Referring to the aether mod

Ah yes, you can't be committing any crimes in these maps but you can go play vanilla Minecraft and burn an entire village.

as someone who works with a marketplace some other scummy things i have seen some teams do is they make a python scrip ( or similar language ) to auto generate the skins based off of pre determined inputs
    eg.
    Give the script
    8 heads
    8 chests
    8 legs
    8 feet
and say i want 128 skins and the script will generate the skins from the inputted base ( this can be changed to do stuff like tone to deal with the race stuff )
which just doesnt feel right they are automating the production of skins which some artists spend 5 or 6 hrs on 1 skin and they go spend 6 or 8 hrs making parts of skins put them in a script and they now have 128 skins
( if a more in depth explanation is wanted i would be happy to answer any questions about said script cant say who uses it / who i work with but most other things i can )

I know this is old but a slight correction you can use whatever skin you want on Bedrock as well because you can import skins on PC and mobile they just put it out of the way in terms of UI to get kids to buy skins

Adding maps to Minecraft Java realms is extremely long and frustrating too. There is ~2 month of waiting and there is only 1 Minecraft content coordinator who’s works 1 day every ~20 days for new applications to Minecraft Realms in exemple
