    What an athlete!!! He played with them; showed no signs of fatigue at all. He was looking around and loped to the finish. He's truly an incredible animal. And, I 110% agree with your appreciation towards his owners for allowing him to do what he was bred for; running and winning. Not sense Affirmed has there been a Kentucky Derby champion and stallion with more racing starts. Making money on stud fees has become top priority. It seems racing longevity has been put on the back burner and left to rot.

    Last year's Pacific Classic went in a final time of 1:59.77 seconds with Beholder a mile in front. This race went in 2:00.13, of course with Chrome in a canter, but if Beholder struck the same gear as last time, she wouldve possibly been a lot closer to Chrome in the end or she could've at least pressed the time faster. I wish they would retire her this year or even last year, coming of a huge win in the Classic, and a stellar record. Her best year is behind her, even tho I don't want to admit it. Can't nobody beat Chrome, and if they do, well shit, they must have some luck on their side or something.

    Pretty impressive. This horse, California Chrome, got crushed by Shared Belief; lost 2 of 3 races to Bayern as a 3 year old; lost to Prince Bishop in Dubai; lost 9 career races etc. And he is now turned into a bear. I still say that Shared Belief was better than Chrome; and I still say that Bayern had Chrome's number as 3 year olds, though Chrome has turned into a better horse; but Chrome has turned into a top 5 year old no doubt.

      @ScotchIrishTarheel Před 8 lety

      Shared Belief = amazing horse. Tragic loss at a young age.
      But neither Chrome nor Shared Belief "crushed" the other. They were 1-1 against one another. Shared Belief beat Chrome by 2.5 lengths in the 2015 San Antonio Stakes. Chrome beat Shared Belief by 4.5 lengths in the 2014 Breeders Cup Classic.
      Bayern beat Chrome by 6 lengths in the 2014 Penn Derby and a neck in the BCC. Chrome beat Bayern by 14 lengths in the Preakness.
      Chrome beat both Shared Belief and Bayern for 2014 Horse of the Year. Chrome was injured for most of 2015. Bayern raced in 2015 but had nothing left. But Chrome has been the world's top-ranked dirt horse since the beginning of 2016, and at times the top-ranked horse overall (dirt or turf). In his last three starts Chrome has defeated Beholder, Dortmund (twice), and Frosted.

      Bayern was FAST and awesome BUT only if he could get the lead. If he didn't......he got mud in his face kicked up and never moved. Stayed way behind. But like in the BCC....if he got the lead...GONE. Toast and Chrome almost got him. LOL Bayern was in a few of CC's races when they were young 3yr olds and maybe when 2. CC beat him a few times. But it goes back and forth like that. Beat him one day, not the next.....but again later. They're ALL awesome. The front four running are anyway.

  • @RedBev59

    I love how Victor just tapped Chrome to MOVE coming out of the gate. CC knew what he wanted and took off. BUT the cool part WAS........when Victor moved way out there 7 lengths "offering Beholder and Dortmund the chance to move to the rail to challenge CC later. The rail is a quicker run. CC likes 3 or 4 wide for some reason.....has to work harder. BUT Mike and Raphael didn't do it. Chrome was flying like so fluidly in that stride he gets into in his workouts. just in Cruise Control. LOL So Beholder and Dortmund stayed where they were to try to Place second, third. Coming around that last turn they DID try to move up though. Cunning strategy on Victors part, though. What a summer for races this year. WOWZA.

    BEHOLDER MIGHT HAVE COME IN SECOND, BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT SHE IS THE BETTER HORSE. I PRAY THEY RETIRE HER AT THE END OF THE YEAR, SHE DESERVES TO RETIRE AND MAKE SOME BEAUTIFUL BABIES.

    • @brucerobbins3584
      @brucerobbins3584 Před 8 lety

      I agree. They most likely WILL retire her. It's about time. She has done magnificently as a racehorse, one of the top five mares, I think.

    • @goforwand31
      @goforwand31 Před 8 lety +3

      When it comes down it, she's not the better horse. She's been conservatively raced her entire career (racing mostly in CA) and has yet to win outside CA. California Chrome has done that and faced tougher company than Beholder ever has. There's no comparison there. Beholder is a very good mare, but she's not great.

    • @brucerobbins3584
      @brucerobbins3584 Před 8 lety

      goforwand31 Well then, using your logic, Swaps was only a mediocre horse!!! He won the Derby then returned to CA.Set records all over the place.
      Beh has son the Zenyatto Stakes, more than once I think, the Breeder's cup Juvenile, Clement Hirsch, and has faced any other mare who dares to face her. You don't seem to know that CC is a stalliion and Beh a mare. The don't have to face the same competition.

    • @VialliForever
      @VialliForever Před 8 lety +1

      I have an enormous amount of respect for Beholder, but I don't see how anyone can logically claim that she is the better horse. California Chrome beat her easily here, and I haven't checked what the weight assignments were, but he was likely carrying more than her too.
      Beholder is an amazingly durable and talented horse, but as goforwand31 pointed out, California Chrome has faced far superior competition. Beholder did establish herself as genuinely talented though by beating Dortmund, a GI-winning colt who still seems to be doing well (unlike, say, Bayern, who had gone downhill by the time she met him).

    How come older horses don't bear weight anymore? Citation had 132 lbs. on his back when HE was five. Chrome had 124.

    • @goforwand31
      @goforwand31 Před 8 lety

      Because times have changed and trainers now refuse to let their horses carry weight. So very few handicaps exist sadly...

    • @RedBev59
      @RedBev59 Před 8 lety

      In CC and Dortmunds handi cap race CC had to wear more weight than Dortmund. Dortmund outweighs everybody. He's 17 hands and I think 1400 lbs. ? holy moly. THIS is a classic race. I think only in Stake races they have to wear more weight. It's the better horse has to wear more. Fillies wear less. ALOT less. and 3yr old wear less. I don't think any of them had weight allowances in the PC race. Not sure though.

    • @LiztheLark
      @LiztheLark Před 7 lety

      The 3-year-old had a slight weight allowance (Dalmore). Other than that, just Beholder had.

    • @brucerobbins3584
      @brucerobbins3584 Před 7 lety

      goforwand31 Sad, yes. Horseracing ain't what it used to be. Dr. Fager holds the mile record with 134 pounds on his back!! Another horse holds the same time wit 113 lbs. Swaps holds a record at 1 5/8 miles with 130 on his back.
      Kelso, Forego....Sam Riddle did not race Man o War at 4 because he knew a lot of weight would be put on him. I am not really sad that weights are not put on horses anymore. I never understood why that was done. To make the race more even, for betting purposes?
      Seems like horses today are trained to run no more than 1-1/4 miles. Citation ran the Jockey Club Gold Cup when it was 2 miles; it was reduced to 1-1/2 miles, and now it is 1-1/4 miles.

    • @LiztheLark
      @LiztheLark Před 7 lety

      Zenaida Robbins I think you're on to something. Dr. Fager had a back-breaking 134 lbs. and crushed opposition, setting world record marks in the process. I think the way Chrome won, as easily as he did he could have tacked on 10 lbs and still won. But, we'll never know. It sure would have made it more interesting.

  • @brucerobbins3584

    Lets see who is the better horse by looking at the record:
    Chrome: 60% win average, 4 times not in the money
    Beholder: 76% win average, one time out of the money, 4th almost third
    Pacific Coast Classic:
    2016: Chrome, in 2:00.4 Good time
    2015: Beholder in 1:59.7 Better time
    Yeah Beholder lost this year to CC. But her record shows she is the better horse.
    I love the annoucers: CC won "in a canter". I don't think he ever saw a canter.
    Beholder won "in an exercise gallop" Both won easily. Chrome is a good horse, but not a great horse. He loses frequently. This is his best year, being a five year old. He lost to the younger Shared Belief, who might have been judged a great horse, if he had lived.

    • @kabzbkny
      @kabzbkny Před 8 lety +3

      Chrome is the better horse, easily. Not only did Chrome toy with Beholder this race, but Chrome has won multiple HUGE races. Way more prize money because way more difficult races.

    • @goforwand31
      @goforwand31 Před 8 lety +3

      Beholder is not the better horse because she was conservatively placed her entire career. She could never win outside of CA. California Chrome is proven all over the country and even Dubai. Beholder has only been good in CA. She can't be considered better when she hasn't beaten the types California Chrome has over time and raced broadly. She's an good mare, but she's not great or better.

    • @goforwand31
      @goforwand31 Před 8 lety +3

      Also Shared Belief and California Chrome were the same age last year (4). Anyone can have a record like Beholder if she never steps outside her comfort zone. Apples and Oranges. California Chrome is the better horse overall. Period.

    • @brucerobbins3584
      @brucerobbins3584 Před 8 lety

      goforwand31 She's a mare!!!! To run against bigger and stronger stallions is a little too much to ask. Like asking stallions to run against Cheetahs. I'd love to see her run against Songbird, a great filly.CC runs in G2 and G3 races a lot.
      CC is a very good horse, but I don't think he is a great horse. As a 3 year old, his record was terrible. He ran 2 races at 4 and lost both of them. He is doing better at 5. Not the record of a champ.
