To the several people who are 'hoping he makes it to a vet' - right at the beginning it is made perfectly clear that he's already under a vet and surgery is planned.

Too bad I'm 70+ yrs old or I'd do my best to get to Idaho and study Farrier Science at your school. The way you work and your understanding of veterinary requirements of your patients is inspiring. Any horse that crosses your threshold is a really lucky horse.

He looks pretty underweight too, I take it that he's been rescued? Hope he gets the care he needs, looks like you did a great job of setting him up for healing.
Sometimes if they're in pain from something like that long enough, their appetite goes off. He could be older, too...sometimes older horses have trouble keeping weight on...
He looked older, and sometimes older horsed have a hard time keeping weight on. His other hooves looked good and same with the uninfected side of his hoof. From what i heard him saying the normal vet was trying to take care of it but now they have to find a specialist which can be difficult
Wow, the comparison between a regular horseshoe and his was eye-opening. The shoe you created looks like it will work well for him until the vet can perform the needed surgery to get all the necrotic tissue removed. I love your channel. I don't have horses anymore but all the new methods are incredible. God bless you and yours from Yuma Arizona.

I just started watching your channel and you are a MASTER farrier. It is obvious you care for every horse that comes into your school, and your empathy shows in how the horses react to you as if they know you are trying to help them. They might be somewhat afraid at first, but instinctively the animals know you're there to help. I love how you explain discolorations in the hooves, and you remark that even though it looks like you're taking a lot off the bottom of the hoof-especially the frog area-that you are not hurting the horse. Thank you for what you do!! 👍🐎

One might also infer from the title, as a farrier may not diagnose. This was to make sure the horse was seen by a vet

You did some fine work with that shoe. I really like large draft horses, but their size makes everything just a bit harder to do for them.
