"OLU OF WARRI CORONATION CANNOT HOLD EXCEPT MEDIATORS DO THE RIGHT THING" - ALEX EYENGHO

  • Since the selection of Prince Tsola Emiko as the Olu of Warri-designate some months ago, his selection to ascend the throne of the Itsekiri Kingdom in Delta State has been immersed in controversy.
Despite efforts by critical stakeholders and traditional rulers in the state to resolve the opposition to his forthcoming coronation on August 21, the Ologbotsere (or traditional Prime Minister) of Warri, Chief Ayirimi Emami, has refused to withdraw a lawsuit challenging Prince Emiko’s claim to the Warri throne.
Emami has insisted on adherence to a 1979 Edict of the defunct Bendel State Edict as applicable to present day Delta State, which stipulates the process of ascension to the throne.
According to him, the disqualification of Prince Emiko as Omoba was first done in 2015 over failure to meet the criteria to succeed his late father, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, owing to the fact that his mother is Yoruba and not of Benin origin.
Emami’s opposition, however, may be in conflict with the Nigerian Constitution, which clearly states that no citizen shall be discriminated against based on his or her state of origin, or in this case the origin of his mother’s birthplace.
ALEX EYENGHO, the spokesperson for the Ologbotsere Descendants worldwide of Itsekiri Kingdom, discusses how he intends to succeed in his quest against the coronation of Prince Emiko.

Also let him be crowned, if it is not to be, then time will tell as you have seen with the demise of the recent Olu. @@akeemadedayo9626 I think you need to do your research, the word "Yoruba" was created from an Hausas description of the Oyos, and the language was Oyo language. Even the Ife language was different from today's Yoruba. The British Ochesrated the imposition of the language upon other nationalities that are now Yoruba today to make it easy for them to rule.
Oyo language was chosen because of Bishop Ajayi who was a free slave from America and was Originally from Oyo. He was the person used to orchestrate the imposition(it was natural for him to choose his language).
We are now in the information age, the time of myths and folktales are over. Everyone deserves the the right to know the truth.

The law states that the mother of the Olu ought to be Itsekiri or at worst Edo.
Why not review, pursue an amendment?
The father of Prince Tsola, who was the Olu for up to 20 years, Olu Atuwase, a Lawyer, foreign trained, and had the uncommon luxury of having an Itsekiri governor during his own reign, for whatever reason, throughout his tenure as Olu, did not or could not, i don't why, amend this section of the Edict. He could not have been ignorant of this and the fact that it would affect his offsprings since his wife is Yoruba. And it most certainly did. That is why Tsola was disqualified ab initio after Olu Atuwase passed on.
Next in line by tradition was the late Olu Atuwase siblings, and that is how Ikenwoli was sworn in.
In this case, the next in line ought to be Ikenwoli's children. If any is not deemed fit, it goes to Ikenwoli's siblings, ( which is what happened for him to be crowned, as Atuwase's kids didn't qualify after he passed), and if no sibling is deemed fit it may then have to go back again to filter the 2nd to the last Olu:s kids again, which in this case, would be going back to Atuwase kids again, being the 2nd to the last Olu.
      Fact please.
And I do believe that even before this particular step, the uncles to the present late Olu are filtered before it goes back to the 2nd to the last Olu.
      As contained in the Edict.
I believe that if this does not serve well again as supposed to whatever reasons it was adopted way back then, it ought to be amended if possible, then we move forward. Pursuant to the amendment.
      That would be better.
