Bea Arthur was always my favorite on the Golden Girls. I loved Rue and Betty and Estelle as well but Bea always Will be mine. Bea could do just about anything And seeing her having done these commercials were just out of this world
She’s such a good actress and she put everything into these simple commercials. I’m a 19 year old American and she has me absolutely convinced that I need to book a plane to Canada and go to the Shopper’s drug mart for my senior discount 😂 (I mean… she said they’d be lenient about age)
That uncompromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizin', Right on, Maude! Also: the way Bea Arthur says 'pop' makes me proud to have her as a spokesperson for this store. Thank you for bein' a friend!
The best Xmas present you could get is more of these adverts, they are funny and likable and they have Bea Arthur as the star because she's just gorgeous ❤
Lady Godiva was a freedom rider she didn't care if the whole world looked. Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her she was a sister who really cooked. Isadora was the first bra burner and you're glad she showed up. (Oh yeah) And when the country was falling apart Betsy Ross got it all sewed up. And then there's Maude. (6X) And then there's that old compromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizin', Right on Maude!
What I don't know is why Bea didn't want these ads shown in the US under any circumstance? I know this is a Canadian chain, but any relation to the grocery store in the DC area?
They're a big chain up here. I'm guessing they probably had at least 500 stores when these ads aired, while now they have more than 1300. Bea Arthur was replaced with Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker, well known at the time for their roles on the hit TV series LA Law.
The reason people started saying Happy Holidays is not because someone gets offended at Merry Christmas. Its because, as hard as it may he for you to believe, there are other holidays besides Christmas that time of year. Hannukah, Kwanza, not to mention religions that do not celebrate Christmas because of their religions. It's just a nice way to recognize everyone's beliefs, or lack of any belief. Has anyone threatened violence when you've uttered Merry Xmas? I sincerely doubt it.
Can't believe I just watched 8 minutes of Bea Arthur Shoppers Drug Mart commercials....
I can... What an icon!
I know! What fun.
I hope they paid her well, she really gave it her all!
You're gonna be happy - Shoppers Drug Mart!
I just saw this comment after I did the same thing! Bloody Bea Arthur commands our automatic attention! 😳🫣
I love that she is so obviously giving it her all. Most actors seem to phone it in on commercials once they’ve hit it big
agreed. Bea was a total professional and always gave it her all.
Hearing Bea Arthur calling "soda" Pop filled my heart with joy
I appreciate that Bea said POP
I was convinced that she was Canadian as a boy.
That’s my girl!! I love these commercials. It’s like watching a spin off series starring Dorothy Zbornak. Why are drug stores fun places???

Bea is a legend.

Born in New York City, died in Los Angeles, and for a while, lived in the hearts of Canadian shoppers.
That uncompromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizin',
Right on, Maude!

I love her whistle earrings
Bea was Ab Fab. Rest In Peace! ❤️
I’m so glad someone put all of these together! I was hoping I’d find the commercials on here 🙌
Omg that green tuxedo from Golden Girls lol. Bea was one of a kind!

"Candy, snacks, film, batteries" ol' Bea was into some nas-tay stuff back in the day
Bea denied herself nothing that might give her.... _pleasure!_
Don't forget the POP!
“It’s so good we named it”!!!
CONDOMS ROSE, CONDOMS!
she was so perky and hilarious! im dying over here.
thank you for these
I use to love these ads at Christmas. The Canadian Tire ones were great as well, "give like Santa and save like Scrooge".
Wow, 1985-1992, that's the exact period of the Golden Girls original air time on tv.
Weird that an American actress would be in Canadian commercials--at the same time she starred in a sitcom
Loved BEA ARTHUR💕
I seem to recall that the owner of Shopper's Drug Mart was related to Bea, and asked her about doing commercials for it.
Classic's 😎🤙Remember that girl in the wheelchair played on a episode of Different Strokes..*Penelope*
This gives me happiness this Christmas lol - NICKIE! LOL
She wore that green velour tuxedo all over the place and I don’t know why!
Bea thought of Shopper's Drug Mart like many seniors these days feel about Dollarama.
Lady Godiva was a freedom rider she didn't care if the whole world looked.
Joan of Arc with the Lord to guide her she was a sister who really cooked.

Well these took me back - so nice to see and remember 👍
Dorothy from _The Golden Girls_
Good times... goooooooood times.
And Good Times was a spin-off of Maude.
Speechless 😶!
3:33 - Derek McGrath as Maurice.
Happy to help you 😎
So she’s canonically Mrs. Claus in these commercials?
What I don't know is why Bea didn't want these ads shown in the US under any circumstance? I know this is a Canadian chain, but any relation to the grocery store in the DC area?
These are rather.. Spicy
We didn't have Shoppers Drug Mart in CA, or at least in L.A., so I never knew this was going on!!

I read that Bea Arthur only did these on the condition that they NOT be shown in the USA.
I'm playing hooky from work to watch Bea sell me '80s toiletries.
I still have that yellow duck.
5:18. The face!!!
Bea is the logo of sdm.
Dorothy loved Shopper's Drug Mart, I wonder if the rest the Golden Girls shopped there.
"Condoms! Condoms! Condoms!"-- Dorothy Zbornak
Available at your Shopper's Drug Mart
1:29: Blanche would be jealous!!
Where were these aired? Great commercials!
First came Shoppers Drug Mart......and then there's Maude!
I didn’t know Shoppers Drug Mart was still around
How Far Has Shoppers Drug Mart Fallen Since?
Bea Arthur is Mrs. Claus? I never knew.
3:12
...are those whistle earrings?!
Yes!
Did she go to Shoppers Drug Mart to buy condoms? 😅😅😅
Calm down lady, did you just get out of prison?
Condoms Condoms CONDOMS!
10 dollars for pearls? How... Is that even
Bea can make it sound good.
I was waiting my turn 2 pay & this old lady in front of me started hitting me with her shoulder.
Commercials are so generic and bland today. Give me Dorothy any day of the week.
And then there's Maude.
Lol
Back in the day when it was OK to use the word "Christmas" in commercials
??
@@vitothepizzaguy7475 Now we have to say "Holidays" lest anyone become offended. Miss the old days...
@@vallartaisheaven I didn't catch that memo??
