    ----------------------
    Climbing is a sport with a big movement vocabulary. With the entire body at your disposal, you’re free to express yourself using any technique of your choosing. That’s the beauty behind the sport: there’s no correct way to climb something. However, this freedom of technique can also be a hindrance. With so many options to choose from, which ones are the most useful?

    Front facing smear and push is one thing I’ve noticed extensively used when watching Jain Kim climb, even we she has 2 footholds available she will bring the outside foot to a more comfortable pushing position by smearing, the switch in position means she doesn’t have to pull on the arms when dead pointing to the next hold.
    It’s a difficult thing to remember to do instinctively but I’ve found it useful in a number of cases where the foothold puts you in an otherwise inefficient position
    As an example, this move has been living in my head rent free for years now: czcams.com/users/clipUgkxZ-aaf3VsT-VM1dpjB0Au-EheQdix1Uj-

    Small tip when using included subtitles is to add a small outline on the outside of the text to increase readability. When the white text is in the flame, it becomes hard to read. Good luck on the new venture!

    I'd like to mention that the reason that dropping your heel increases your ability to stick to the wall is NOT because of the surface area, but rather because it allows you to press against the wall more effectively, thus increasing the normal force. It's a small difference in practice, but it is better to know the precise reason why because of how it can help you adapt on the fly.

    You may be covering it in your online class: but I have noticed that a lot of climbers; including some expert ones; have a lot of difficulty on mantels where they cannot get a heel hook; or a higher handhold.
    And if one climbs outdoors; mantels are a required movement to master.

    • @movementforclimbers
      @movementforclimbers  Před rokem +2

      I've been getting some tough lessons on mantels this summer bouldering outdoors (Fontainebleau & Albarracin). It's been especially tricky on roof climbs where I can't smear the lower foot. Will need to develop some proficiency with this skill first before making that video.

    another interesting foot swap technique can be seen here:
    czcams.com/video/knT1sAeA2c0/video.html
    note how the top foot uses the wall as a fulcrum point such that it can pivot on that fulcrum down to the desired position on the hold in a very controlled fashion
