Another interesting detail that Alex Hirsch had to say about Ford’s pride in the DVD commentary was:
"Ford’s greatest flaw is arrogance. He believes that there are special people, and everyone else...That human attachments are actually weaknesses. The song and dance that he gives Dipper when he asked him to be his apprentice is the exact song and dance that he gave McGucket back when they were younger - ‘You and I are different. We’re better than everyone else. We have a path that no one else can understand. No one else can do this.’ It was a very seductive idea for Dipper, but he starts to be a little insecure. He kind of can’t believe it, and he’s sort of right to be suspicious, because while Dipper is a smart kid, Ford is projecting. Ford loves Dipper because he sees someone who will tell him ‘yes’ to everything, who will never challenge him, and who will do really insane, dangerous missions. I know there are some fans who are like ‘Oh, this is a great offer! Dipper should just become a mystery hunter for the rest of his life, not go to high school, not go to college, not be around kids his age…But if Dipper had taken the apprenticeship, he probably would have gone the way of McGucket - Turned into a kind of insane, paranoid hermit with no friends, and just kind of losing his mind. So, it is a seductive offer, but ultimately, Dipper needs to try to learn not to grow up too fast.”
tldr is ford's fatal flaw is hubris.aka arrogance

I will never grow tired of the fact that orginally the author was this enigmatic, grandiose entity. But the guy's just a geek from jersey whos into DnD and watched to many golden age horror flicks when he was a kid.
Broadly speaking this feeling of demystifying is my favorite. It's when unreachable people get humanized and relatable. Like how preserved ancient graffiti in Pompeii was mostly about innuendos, jokes and shitposts like todayssocial media or how one of the most ancient pieces of writing is a customer complaint or how a child called Onfim doodled on their homework about monsters and fights, identical to what a child would draw nowadays only 800 ago.
It's so satisfying
Answer: He's voiced by *J. K. FREAKING SIMMONS*, which gives him an automatic 10/10
One thing that stuck out to me while reading Journal 3 is a passage describing some of Ford’s interactions with Mcgucket. He described how Mcgucket had a Rubik’s Cube, and how he would often scramble it, which would then cause Mcgucket to unscramble it.
This was the perfect allegory for their relationship. Ford keeps messing with Mcgucket’s mind/life and Mcgucket was constantly scrambling to fix everything.
Then when they meet again after the finale Ford chooses not to touch the Rubick’s Cube, signifying that he’s not going to mess with him anymore and is finally ready to let him live in peace.
"I'm thinking of modifying it to be unsolvable just to see the look on his face!"
If it really is that then wow
Ford's still learning how to be a good friend 🥲🤧 may we all have forgiving besties like McGucket 🙏
Glad Ford is getting some appreciation now. He's really one of the more underrated characters in the series.
“In fact, if I had one critique it would simply be that I wanted more Ford in the series!”
Same girl, same! As a fellow Ford fan, this was very fun to watch! I have definitely written my own deep dives into his character myself, he’s just such a unique and complex character and I love seeing him getting recognition for his importance in the show, and his growth and personality 👏
I've never seen such a detailed video about Ford, I'd love to see about the other characters like Grunkle Stan.
Im so glad the Gravity Falls fandom is not dead
(Also Ford is indeed the best and my favorite)
legendary recommended pull 🙏🙏

@jadedcreativity OFCC, IT TOOK ME A FEW MINUTES UNTIL I REALIZED YOU DIDNT HAVE A FEW HUNDRED THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS
This is probably one of the best Ford if not Gravity Falls video essay. Great work!

HOW IS THIS VIDEO NOT POPULAR???? THIS IS SO GOOD😍😍😍🤩
Definitely agree that he's the best lol. He's my favorite for a reason!
Ford is definitely my favorite character in Gravity falls and the lack of screen time he had just hurts 🥲
At first I also didn't like Ford, but he really grows on you and after I rewatched the show, he became my favorite character.
Also like his ace vibes. 🤭

Absolutely awesome video! Ford has always had a special place in my heart because his story shows that no matter how broken you are, you can learn to trust again. Now I'm gonna go buy a copy of Journal #3.
Honestly I gotten into gravity falls and seeing this in my recommended is amazing! I’m so happy there’s still people who are active into looking more into this show! When watching the show and Finally getting when Ford gets introduced I was quickly so into his character! My favorite episode is the DnD one because it shows how he may be a smart serious character he’s just the rest of the cast where he is a goofy character who plays a nerd board game with a child! This is an amazing video and I loved watching it while I was drawing (gravity falls fanart hehehe)
this video is soooo underrated. i'm really happy i got it on my fyp
Sameee
This is kinda weird. I literally just started rewatching the show for old times sake and nostalgia, and now THIS is in my recommended? Spooky. As spooky as the town itself…

This video was great I didn’t know all these details about his character and they make me love, sympathize and understand his character more I just wish they showed more of these extra details from the comics and other sources in the main show it would have made added so much more to the show!!
Great video! Excited to see more from you! Subscribed :)
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😊

love it jade!!!!
I read an interesting headcanon on a tumblr RP blog long ago, that Bill was the Demon of Generational Trauma, not dreams. I think the blog owner had some OCs that were the guardians of Gravity Falls, native deities that were in charge of the protective barrier round it. One of the deities explains this to another oc, who almost fell for Bill's tactics. That oc was related to the Northwest family, so yeah...she had generational trauma in spades!
Oohh so cool! Totally love this read too!
Watching at 5k views. Very underrated video and channel. Great video! He was super underrated

People usually consider me to be pretty funny but if they just watched GF theyd see im a total fraud and all my jokes are stolen from Stan
When there's no cops around anything's legal!
Bill cipher is the best ofc
He's my first love 😭⚠️
Love this show but i think Stanley is a better character
Grunkle Stan is also amazing!!
the stan twins are both better characters.
17:11 I'd argue this actually makes him a worse person. This isn't him looking for atonement, at least, not entirely. The way it's written, there's a major undercurrent of Ford having a martyr complex. In fact, we know he has a martyr complex based on basically everything he does, his reaction to the possession, what to do with the journals, his response to the rift, everything he does implies he believes himself to be special, even if it's in a bad way. The only people he lets help him are people he feels like he can control, people he wants to pretend are special like him.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts - this is also a great and totally valid read too!
For me, I don’t see Ford’s martyr complex as making him a worse person because I still view that character turn as a stepping stone towards growing into his humility.
Of course, you’re right to point out that he still has a long ways to go before he accepts being a Hero’s Brother when he’s travelling the multiverse! But I still view Multiverse!Ford as someone who has grown more than 1980s!Ford, because it’s the beginning of him taking ownership of his narrative and choosing not to be a victim of Bill’s (and actively fighting against the evil triangle!)
So I think of Ford’s exile in the multiverse as the beginning of his atonement because his external consequences (of being trapped with an almost non-existent chance of ever going home) still force him to reconsider his life choices in a new light, and begin to chip away at his own self-image of being infallible.
He just doesn’t have someone (Stanley) there to help him further along in his journey of redemption, so he’s still fairly limited in what he can realize on his own.
But also love this perspective and can see it too! 😊
Hmm...
No obviously the best character is The Big Dipper
I think Ford would agree 😅
Ford made many mistakes that lead to his downfall. His biggest mistake was holding a grudge against his brother Stan and not forgiving him after so many years Stan worked so hard to bring him back. Ford's biggest mistake is the reason why his Zodiac Plan failed. In the book, Ford realizes how wrong he was and how he was behaving towards other people. Ford see that Stan is the real hero of the story. Ford isn't the hero. Ford doesn't see himself as a hero, but the brother of the hero. Ford regretted how he treated Stan. I was hoping we got a scene that Ford tells Dipper and Mabel to not make the same mistakes like he did and be better than him before the series ended, but I think he did told them off screen.
