Halle actually went with him when he recorded it because Jonah was nervous,so she was a great friend,she has said this is her favorite from the movie. Jonah is actually writing a musical about world war 2 to honor his family that survived it. He DID actually sing part live onset,I’m not sure which part though. Halle and her sister internet stalked Jonah before his audition and heard him sing Feelin Good and wanted him as Eric just from that,lol,he sang it how Rob, Lin and Alan wanted him to.

Even though you can tell the song was too much for his voice, it’s become one of my favourites
I think the fact that he struggles to sing the song actually adds to it as the character is struggling to convey how strongly he feels about finding Ariel - so much that he’s practically shouting it.

I saw a comment that said that "Wild Uncharted Waters" is Eric's "Part of Your World" and it made me love this song even more.
For a guy who isn't a "singer" he did a really great job. This song has become a big favourite of mine.
Something to note in this scene and song: Mermaids are known for bewitching sailors with their siren song, slowly driving them to madness with longing. Ariel revived Eric with her song; this song and scene shows Eric's desperate longing for Ariel, and hints at a descent into madness

God I didn’t even think of that. I do remember thinking about the whole siren song thing when they kept mentioning it but never thought about what she might’ve accidentally done to him when she revived him
This is my favorite song from the remake. It gives so much more depth to Eric's character and with or without autotune his voice is dreamy and fits Eric so much. And yes, the scene before this is his mother is basically telling him that Ariel isn't real and he hallcinated her, she also forbids him from going on his ship which is only what he wants to do. Just like Ariel wants to be on shore, Eric wants to be on the ocean and explore. So he's obviously hurt. We only got to hear Eric sing in the animated version once, I believe and that was with other people on the ship. You should react to him singing in other things because he has some covers here on CZcams that are amazing and show off his singing more effectively.
He actually has his own band called Rova, which is an indie band. This song isn't that auto-tuned compare to Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast.

Exactly and I think it's so we understand him with his thick accent it's a pretty song I like the imperfect singing it's romantic and expresses his yearning

I think it's also worth to mention that his voice has a natural autotune sound to it, like even when he speaks it sounds edited but it's not. Of course it's been pitch corrected, but it's far different from what they did to Emma Watson!
Such a beautiful song and he did incredible singing it. I love how his voice and way of singing contrast with Halle's basically perfect voice. He is basically yelling toward the sea, passionately wanting to find the mystery woman who saved him. And Halle's voice cascading over his at the beginning of his chorus is absolutely breathing-taking. Love this song so much!!
In the behind the scenes clips, (which I assume it wasn’t autotuned) they showed jonah recording the song and he sounded REALLY GOOD. They made a big no no with the autotune
If you notice when he sings “There you are, over me” it is the reverse of when Ariel sings her siren “Aah Aah Aah, Aah Aah Aah”. Try playing it backwards on a piano 😊
I'm so glad you appreciated it more with the screen and that you realized the auto-tune wasn't his fault. I don't know what Disney was thinking. So I'm glad you looked up his other videos. I love Jonah and this song was quite possibly my favorite from the movie. You can really feel the emotion he puts into it, especially with the scene before adding to the buildup. I love the song and I love this reaction video. It was perfect and exactly my same thoughts.

He has a great voice for sure. He sung also in other productions he participates (Postcards from London, World on Fire, and he also was in a band called Rova in his teens). This song is my favorite from the new songs in the movie. I really want to see you react to his vocals! ❤ He really has that deep voice... Love it! He puts so much soul to the song... I'm waiting to the release of the bonus version of the film to see him singing with the orquestra ❤

I knew you would love it once you saw it in the scene with him acting, where you can see his desperation and longing and with all the gorgeous camera work and the setting with the waves in the background. It just all is so beautiful. This is actually my favorite of the new songs added to the movie by far ❤️ honestly my second favorite song in the whole movie behind Part of Your World

You need to see the behind the scenes video of this song. There are some moments of him singing with the orchestra and it sounds pretty good live imo.
also, nobody come for me, but I've been saying this to anyone who will listen to me that the timbre/tone of his voice reminds me of Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol a little bit
Honestly, I wasn't attracted to Eric at all UNTIL I heard how hard he was simping for Ariel in this song and immediately fell in love.

I believe the director said that Jonah is very new to singing. I don’t think they were necessarily looking for singers for Eric.
That song has grown on me, now I listen to it all the time. Also Part of Your World (reprise 2) is breathtaking, but way too short. I listen to it on loop
When this song started I felt really weirded out at first but near the end of the film when the musical score played along with Part of Your Worlds and harmonized I started to appreciate the song more from just a musical standpoint.

In the scene before the song the queen his mother was telling him that the girl that saved him was not real and a figment of his imagination
The Queen also banned him from continuing to search for the girl, which you could tell devastated him. Such a perfect setup for the emotion of the song.

i personally believe its super autotuned bc Eric is enchanted and spellbound by Ariel's voice. So he sounds mystical and under a spell because hes so enchanted by her voice

I literally couldn't even tell there was autotune and that's probably because a lot of Kpop songs I listened to have a lot of it when it's not needed. So I think the song is good
I’m glad you liked it more seeing it in the movie! I had the same reaction hearing it on the soundtrack vs seeing it in the theater. I also don’t like that riff on the last “uncharted waters”; my assumption was that Alan and Lin wrote it in and he had to sing it that way. Why they would write it that way I really do not understand; there are so many nicer note choices they could have used there. The syllabic emphasis is also wacky in that area and that doesn’t help. (My background is as a musician/songwriter, not a singer.)
Jonah didn’t sing it auto tune…they showed him singing it live on the BTS.

I will agree with those who mentioned auto-tuned. I think also the problem may lay with the fact that his British accent was harder to hear some words. I love though when he opens up with the dynamics that he has a rich baritone voice. The first time I listened to this I thought he was struggling with the higher notes however I agree with those that say that he grows on you.

I really love this song and the Live Action Eric ❤ I think the autotune is a little bit less than in Beauty and the Beast (that was crazy) but here I think it is okay but sad for the actors and singers that they maybe don‘t even have to use it

It would be interesting to hear your analysis of other singers who have covered this song as well. As much as I enjoyed Jonah's version, maybe it's a tonality difference in preference for you? I do think it's slightly auto tuned, but maybe he just was having a hard time adjusting his easy listening vocals to a more "classical musical theatre" sound. When I watched this movie with my mom and brother my brother said I can sing better than that and we made jokes through the hole movie and the people next to us kept looking but the movie was great
As much as I wish Disney would stop trying to polish songs to the whole squeaky clean point (like, editing is fine but they're doing something wrong if it's just pure autotune. I don't know. I'm not an expert.) I appreciate the existence of songs like this one and Evermore from beauty and the beast. This is what I like the live action remakes for. At this point I support more live action movies as long as they keep giving characters their own songs. The princes finally get their solo songs (and a personality for the earlier ones. Amazing).

My 6 year old daughter's were so mad when they heard the original soundtrack and Eric's song wasn't on there. "Where's Eric's song?!"
When I first heard the song I thought "Meh" but when I saw it at the first screening I was like "Wow, this is pretty cool!" and I started to love the song more and more. Now I really can't get it out of my head. But yeah the but of autotune in the beginning is very noticeable but later on it's not too bad. Still great performance.
There were some parts that felt uncanny valley for me like its prbly my least favorite song but it gets stuck in my head all the time and its grown on me

I've always been fine with the way it sounded, it feels... a little pop-oriented for my tastes, but my main issue is that the song just isn't that deep. The lyrics aren't that interesting. If we're going to flesh out Eric as a character and give him an I Want song, I sort-of want it to be as meaningful as Ariel's, I want what HE wants to feel as genuine as hers. Ariel's song is about wanting freedom, about wanting to explore the world and know more, about wanting to be allowed to be herself without fear. Eric's song boils down to "I want to find this stranger I'm weirdly attracted to even though I have no idea what she even looks like let alone anything more meaningful about her." It REALLY pales in comparison to Ariel's, and that's what frustrates me about it. I wanted to learn more about Eric from his song and I don't really feel like we did. The fact that he wants to find Ariel isn't new. I wish they'd taken the desire to find Ariel and EXTRAPOLATED from there in the song, used the song to tell us why he's so desperate for it. I assume that all of this info is in the dialogue and so the characterization is THERE, but the song itself just falls flat for me because they just kind-of have him sit in this one very meh feeling rather than USING the song to tell us what we need to know. It sounds fine, he sounds good, I have no real issues with the melody or the singing, I just think the lyrics could've been more interesting and meaningful for Eric than they ended up being.

I am a great fan of Musical theatre and I am always sad when they cast people in such roles who are not really singers. Like most of the time the songs end up okay, but they could be so much more epic! Gaston for example had the best songs in Beauty and the Beast because Luke Evans can sing!
In the German version of Wild Uncharted Waters they at least used a Musical Actor.
But I like Jonah's British accent here xD

I really liked the music, the auto tune spoiled it a bit. But the music is good. But I think for a movie with Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda on the soundtrack, I expected more from the music hahaha. And I really liked that in this movie, Prince Eric is really important kkkk because in the original he is just the handsome prince who wants to find Ariel, but in the live action and with this song, he now has haracter and depth to the character hahaha. I looked for some videos of him singing and really didn't need auto tune on this song
