  • Welcome to the SPOOLIN UP channel : )
    This video is about how I fitted a second hand Airtec front mount intercooler to my VW Golf Gti.
    I hope you enjoy the video, it took a long time to make and during the job I came across many obstacles that I managed to overcome.
    Thank you for coming to watch.

      Thank you mate I appreciate it. This Airtec Intercooler is an easy one to install and looks sweet in place too. It fitted behind the bumper as it is the R32 rep, it recommends the anniversary splitter to disguise the bottom if you have the standard bumper.

      It should be a nice easy fit for you then, I did have to trim the radiator cowling around the air con. You may need to trim some of the inside of your bumper as well to make it sit on top of the intercooler nicely. I bought my intercooler off a guy who didn't have an R32 bumper so he managed to make it work so you should be able to as well. Jettas are cool man ✌🏾

    Recently picked up a mk1 Leon as a project and a lot of your videos have helped me figuring things out and giving ideas. The Leon has APP engine and it's been a bit of a struggle finding stuff because this engine does not seem to be used in the UK and US (which seems to be where all the YT guys are at with these cars). Most of it seems similar enough thankfully, I'll manage eventually haha. Subscribed to keep up with your progress, good stuff!

      Glad you have a nice project going on there man I think its important. During the pandemic the cars kept me so busy when a lot of other people were bored and pulling their hair out. Im happy to hear the videos have helped you, just wondering if the forums have bit and bobs to help you in the country you are from. I think these engines were adapted to meet different standards globally. Good luck with the car and thank you for subscribing it means a lot 👍🏽👌🏾

      @@SPOOLINUP Yes there is a Dutch Seat forum that has been quite helpful, but unfortunately many things on it are quite old (2011-2016) and as such many pictures are not working anymore. Being pretty inexperienced still, having a visual aid is very handy (especially video). Also, seems most other Leons came with the AUQ, so that brings a lot of the same "problems". Yea looks like most of the differences lie in the emissions systems (n249, sai, evap etc.) and I'd love to clear the bay of these but not having a guide for this engine makes me a bit hesitant. So far been doing all the maintenance and fixing broken things on the inside with parts from the junkyards (breakers in the UK?). First real mods will be AP coilovers and Cobra Sport exhaust (with 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat). I hope to eventually swap out the base k03 for a k04-001 and get to 250-260hp, that'd be pretty nice

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Před 2 lety

      I fell your pain with the forums, I googled things and they were very old threads on there from those kind of dates as well. Images are one of the most important things you need as well. If you use Facebook and sign up to some of the numerous MK4 GTI groups I am sure you can find someone that is more than happy to help. I was hesitant to do the SAI, N249 EVAP etc but in the end I had to just get stuck in. I wonder if the guide I used may help you even though it doesnt include APP it may have useful diagrams and pictures. Yeah over here we call them breakers yards and scrap yards, they can be very useful of course. I would definitely recommend starting off fixing all of the issues, thats a good idea and then you can build on a solid base. You bought some good coilovers man and a decent exhaust system by the sounds of it so good for you that will be great. I dont think a turbo conversion will happen for me but let's see. Good luck with your project though it should keep you busy 🤣👌🏾👍🏽

    Oooh dude i installed a fmic on my Mk4 this past weekend. I have stock turbo so nothing too crazy i only had to trim the bumper, not the crash bar since it hangs nicely under the crash bar. Good shit man. I noticed a difference right away no more heat soak and a few gains 👍👍👍

      @SPOOLINUP  Před 2 lety

      Yo man, im glad you have done it as well. How did you find fitting it and what kit did you use? Also are you using a standard bumper? My turbo is also stick man. Have you had your car mapped yet?

    • @TheLonelyFuture1
      @TheLonelyFuture1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SPOOLINUP i went for the euro sport fmic. All the piping goes under the engine, i didn't have to remove the pancake pipe so it has a "stealth" look. My bumper was stock as well so the fitting took a while and it was a bit of a hassle but i managed to put it all together. It's mapped with APR stage 1. I also have a downpipe installed.

      @SPOOLINUP  Před 2 lety +1

      That sounds wicked mate, not sure i have seen that kit man im going to Google it now to have a look. My intercooler wasn't visible until you opened the bonnet...now ive modded the front bumper you can see it a bit more. How is the stage 1?

    • @TheLonelyFuture1
      @TheLonelyFuture1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SPOOLINUP Yea man on mine the intercooler itself isn't visible unless you're looking for it, it's hidden away behind the bottom center grill. Personally i think stage 1 makes the car more fun to drive. I think stage 1 is good for the "little" upgrades like cold air intake, intercooler, downpipe, coil packs, etc. Stage 2 and beyond is where more serious upgrades are done, that's just me though. Adding the intercooler did make a difference however, i feel like it accelerates much quicker and it feels like it has more power at higher rpm's.

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Před 2 lety

      So I assume that you are from the USA? Only because I think that kit is hard to get over here after I did a quick Google search. I got a question I know this video few years old. I just purchased a eBay intercooler kit, but this one comes with a blow off valve. Would you know if I able to have diverter on the turbo inlet plenum and have blow off off the charge turbo pipe with my new intercooler system?

    • @SPOOLINUP
      @SPOOLINUP  Před 24 dny

      Hey man, it would literally serve no purpose to have both installed as one would cancel the other out. If you read any article on the 1.8t engine it's quite commonly said that they don't run well with blow off valves that vent to atmosphere due to MAF calculation etc. Even a blow off valve by itself is not recommended, better off just leaving the diverter in situ and running it with your new intercooler. I hope that helps you in some way.

      If you have a boost gauge it should be read -18 to -20 at idle comfortably, if you have anything that is closer to 0 would be a vacuum leak.
