    I work at a hotel near bear country. we usually have over a dozen cans of bear spray left from people heading to the airport, so you could always ask at the hotel you’re at if they have any.

    Yes London Heathrow is extremely strict! I had to literally get rid of a tiny little had sanitizer that was attached to my personal item because it didn’t fit in my 311 bag. Also, I travel with medical liquids and it was the one time I was so thankful that I had my doctor’s letter. The officer read it and got a supervisor to read it and verify that each medication matched the letter. So entirely different than U.S.

    Just returned from Provence two weeks ago and brought back six wine bottles with us. We had two carry on size suitcases and put three bottles in each one and checked both suitcases. We put each bottle in a special wine bottle bag (from Amazon) and wrapped each one with dirty clothes, using at least one pair of jeans around the bottles first. All six bottles made it home without any mishaps.

    When we were in Rome last year we purchased a few bottles of alcohol and they put my receipt into the bag and sealed it. When we hit DFW, TSA opened the bag, swiped all the contents to check for dangerous residue then resealed the bag. It was really simple and I highly recommend 😊

We did go through border control and security there though, and they didn’t make us pull out liquids through that security, but we did still have to take off shoes and electronics. When we left Venice, we did have to remove our liquids, but they didn’t care about our quart sized baggie. We have had 0 issues in the US. We haven’t had to remove anything in Reno, Vegas, LA, or Salt Lake (just this year)

    I purchased bottles of rum after security when leaving Belize; they counted as my personal item and I was able to wrap them very well and had no issues. I had planned to buy them so had my towels and extra clothing handy to wrap them in and placed in a large reusable bag. It also helped the largest one was plastic and the smaller ones glass.
    On the other hand, my coworker tried bringing back cachaça from Brazil in their carry-on luggage and when they went to place it in the overhead bin, all the alcohol spilled out of the suitcase and drenched them and their seat-mate so they spent the entire flight smelling of cachaça and being wet. I'm sure they learned a lesson that day but does make for a good story!

    I had a bit of a laugh about the bear spray😂...We have several bears 🐻 on our property... Every year the mama, papa and their young roam around all the way up to our back deck and front door. If there's ever a point that we would feel the need to use the bear spray... that would mean the bear is entirely too close to us physically. I'm not sure if the reactionary time to pull it out and use it would be enough. Honestly, we are more concerned about our mountain lion. But even she was kind enough to just give us a warning shot when she was up on the hill and her cubs were down in the gulch. My husband and I just went inside the house and she was able to get to them. Unless these animals feel threatened or don't have any preferred food they won't mess with you. Just be aware of your surroundings.😊

      What a fun place to live with all that wildlife in your backyard!! Another good reminder I had today, as long as wildlife doesn’t start to associate humans with food (meaning people feeding the wildlife or leaving food out that the animals then eat, like garbage) then there is a much less likely chance of a negative encounter. 🐻❤️

    The new scanning machines have been delayed until next year at Heathrow and Gatwick, sadly. As for wine in checked baggage, yes have done that a few times! My son moved to Scandinavia and left his (expensive) wine collection for us to take, 6 bottles at a time! The rules have changed it to 3 now! However, not once did a bottle break! Major update from 4 days ago (early August) in the Independent (UK). In places with the advanced screening..."EU to reintroduce 100ml liquids rule at airport security as travellers warned of lengthy delays Airports Council International expect ‘significant operational strain’ at European airports" The UK also has reinstated the rule as measure to improve the new advanced screening technology. "The high rejection rate at security after the U-turn caused three-hour long queues at several aviation hubs including Birmingham in June." And the article reiterates: "No container for any LAG can be above 100ml, and at most airports must be carried within a resealable clear plastic bag with a maximum volume of one litre."

    • @patricejohnson4411
      @patricejohnson4411 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@sr9802 they are very strict with the 3-1-1 rule(one, 1oz bag with containers no larger than 3 oz). This includes pastes like toothpaste or maybe something like a stick of hair wax. My advice just put what you can into the 3-1-1 bag and pack the rest in your checked bag. I had to throw out so much stuff that I didn't consider liquid but they do. I have gotten away with one too many plastic bags with liquids here in the US as well as some foreign airports, but not Heathrow. FYI, If you fly into Heathrow and then have to make a connecting flight you will go through 2 security checks. Then you have to go downstairs, catch a bus to (their) international terminal. For example I flew into Heathrow, and had a connecting flight to Scotland. All this process can take up to 3-4 hours so be sure to allow for that when booking a connecting flight. Good luck.

    Italy has become more stringent. I had to throw away quite a bit of my liquid bag because I packed in a quart gusseted bag and it was not allowed. They wanted a regular ziploc quart that didn't quite seem a quart size.

    • @secretariatgirl4249
      @secretariatgirl4249 Před 28 dny +1

      I'm traveling to Italy in a couple of months (mid-October). I wrote this above: I looked up the EU rules for liquids and bought bags on Amazon (a set of 4 bags with a little wrist ribbon) that conform to both TSA and EU. The EU bag is actually a bit bigger than the 1 qt. Ziplock bag. These are flat bags, not like the ones with some width to them that are sold. The EU liquids bag measure 20 X 20 cm. You can bring in liquids 100ml. max up to a total of 1000 ml in the bag. (as you mentioned, no gusseted bags...the ones I have are not gusseted). From an EU site: "You are only allowed to take small quantities of liquids in your hand luggage. These liquids must be in individual containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres each. You must pack these containers in one transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of not more than one litre capacity per passenger."
