I'm sorry, but I don't understand why women would carry a lot of jewelry and makeup. Believe me, I love, love, love both. But when I'm on a trip, I wear the same earrings, necklace(s), bracelet(s), and rings every day. I do not bring a big eye makeup pallett. Foundation, one blush, one eye shadow duo, one eye liner, and mascara. And I'm with you on bringing an e-reader instead of books.

I’ve learned a lot watching these videos & my friends & family are surprised how little I pack for travel. I save space by using my old contact case for my moisturizer and foundation, and I use a makeup remover wash cloth so I don’t have to pack a face cleanser. If I’m traveling to see family I don’t pack shampoo/conditioner because I know they have it. I’m also lucky that my daughter and sister and I wear the same size clothes and shoes so I save space by not packing a jacket or extra shoes.
I’ve found I like using my conceal and carry waistband to keep my money/valuables in because it’s inside my waistband.

For big, fat tour books, I cut out just the pages I need and organize them into sections in the order I am traveling around in. I can then toss or donate them as I don't need them any more. It took me a while to get there, as I don't like to rip up books, but it really helps.
Reviewing my items when I get home also helps with the next trip. The only thing I pack that I hope to never use is my first aid kit.
    Thanks for all the tips!

I can’t sleep on a plane, so I just don’t bother with the neck pillow.
Bringing expensive, or sentimental jewellery (or any sentimental item for that matter) I feel is a bad idea. Things can get stolen or lost, and are irreplaceable (well, the sentimental stuff is). Learned that in my teens when I had my wallet stolen and lost items in my wallet that could never be replaced. If you can’t afford to lose it, don’t take it.
I totally agree about the e-reader. I love books, however, e-readers are awesome! My mom adores hers. She has arthritis, and has a hard time holding books now. Her e-reader is so much easier for her to hold. You can also download e-reader apps to your phone, or tablet (or even your computer) if you don’t want to carry a separate e-reader.
Travelling credit cards only - don’t go to Japan (very much a cash culture). Many places there take cards, but many, many places do not. Plus, it’s also always good to have cash on you for emergencies (like a lost or stolen credit/debit card, tipping when needed, etc.).
For shoes, I bring 1-2 pairs based on where I’m going, and what I’m doing. I’m still looking for a nice, inexpensive pair of foldable ballet flats that can be dressed up or left plain for more “formal” nights on cruises. I have a pair but they only come in a 7/8 (for my size). As 7/8, they have to fit size 8 feet, which is too big for my 7-7.5 feet). I had inserts in them that helped, but I was barely able to keep them on my feet, and it made them uncomfortable to wear. Anyone with suggestions are welcome to let me know. Lol!

I don’t even bring my Kindle since I have the app on my phone. I will never travel without my waist wallet. I only take out enough cash for the day and one card leaving the bulk under my clothes. Keep my minimum wallet zipped inside my crossbody and typically only bring out my change purse to pay (there are so many Euro coins). Hubby and I split up our money, just in case. I use a Shaw as a duel purpose blanket and evening cover.

Neck pillow: I never would take. Even most people wear it the wrong way, in reality the open side is for your neck to prevent your head dropping down when sleeping.
Money belt: I always use it under my clothes except for security inspection.
Cash: Yes, of course, the best way to take care of your budget, and in some cases the only way (f.x. if you are travelling to Iran).
Blanket: Noooo 🙂 I did this once around 35 years ago, but never never again after that.

  • @chris...9497
    @chris...9497 Před 5 měsíci

So, I'm a 'woman over 40' (over 60, actually), and I agree with much of what you say.
    That being said...
I don't take a neck pillow at all.
I usually have a light, long, solid-color cotton scarf I wear to keep my neck warm and for fashion. It's very light and it scrunches up very tiny.
I also bring a plush jacket or a sweater (because even summer evenings can get chilly and the AC can be be brutal).
I wrap the scarf around the jacket/sweater to make a 'flight pillow' and always take a window seat.
    Works fine.
As for a 'flight blanket', I often carry a U-cut shawl that serves that purpose for me.
Think of a large rectangle of woven material with a cut halfway up the short end that cuts to the center fold. The left and right sides of the cut go over the corresponding shoulder while the end of the cut hits the back of my neck.
This shawl works well as a replacement for a sweater. I've even used it as a 'dressing gown' to cover sleepwear or lounge wear when I have to leave a private area to venture into a public area, like a corridor.
I'll use it at my destination, but I pack it for ease of access on the flight.
As for cash, especially if it's a domestic trip, not only is cash necessary for tipping maid service and others, but you never know when something you want or need is ONLY available in a coin op vending machine or when the power goes out leaving a store unable to scan your purchase.
I worked five years in a chain grocery in Seattle, and we had neighborhood blackouts at least a half-dozen times. Trees falling, car collisions, lightning strikes, you never know what can happen. Having cash is a great backup plan. Also good for negotiating service above the usual when you offer 'undocumented' cash.
I normally don't carry cash at all; it's all purchased with plastic. But I ALWAYS carry cash when traveling.

I bring a paperback book with me on vacation, still. Also, I still rip out sections of my tour guide books and bring small phrase books. I found I was too worried about my e-reader to actually use it, so it just doesn't make sense to bring it. Although, I basically don't use my e-reader in my normal life, so there's that.

I don't wear heels any longer, due to an injury on my left foot. If the shoes are practical AND comfortable, they stay home. It's just not worth the hassle to walk the rest of your vacation with sores, blisters, or other wounds on your feet. All of my shoes have no higher than a 3/4" heel. Like you, my passport cover is of the multi-color variety, so it stands out when I am searching for it. I also have a screen shot of all documents, id's, and credit cards in my phone, including my passport. If lost, this expedites the replacement process at the US Embassy.
