- "King Crimson performed Heroes at the Admiralspalast in Berlin as a celebration, a remembrancing and an homage. The concert was thirty nine years and one month after the original sessions at the Hansa Tonstudio overlooking the Berlin Wall. This is released in the Fortieth Anniversary year." - Robert Fripp.

Impossible not to love David Bowie, impossible not to love King Crimson.
david bowie/jones,it is very possible to not love 'bowie ! ' as his fans respectfully refer to him. apart from a few moments and songs,he represented the triumph of style over content,in keeping with the spirit of his 'heroes' andy warhol and lou reed, jakko i once saw denouncing early king crimson as 'hippy' though he fronted a good tribute act to them, also , king crimson, after the early days ,that i saw ,became a good jazz rock techno enterprise once the magic of pete sinfield went with all shades of meaning and esotericicm too.
Except this is a Fripp and Eno song. Eno wrote the music and did the lyrics with Bowie, but they couldn't figure out the guitar line, so they called Fripp in NY and shipped him to Berlin where he came out with this brilliant, unforgettable, unusual vibratto, the sound that makes this song be what it is.

Its very possible to dislike bowie, I do
Goodness! There have been times over the years when I have felt like the only fan of KC. Especially when it cam to some of their jazz style music. My ex sort of tolerated them but was not a huge fan, but she came to one of their RAH gigs many years ago, and loved it. No question at all regards Bowie. One of my all time favourite performances was when he joined Dave Gilmour (also at the RAH) to sing Roger Water's (and Rick Wright's) bit on Comfortable Numb. By heck he took an already rock classic to a whole other level.
What a great version of this song. It is a real treat to hear Robert Fripp performing his wonderful guitar part again. His guitar playing was such an important contribution to the original recording 40 years ago. A fitting tribute to David Bowie.
It was and still is the fire and he plays the frippertronics in a pop medium so incredibly well he is has and will always be my favorite guitarist of all time for sure Hendrix after that for me personally. And I watched him play got to meet him and see that happen in the same spot on the stage that Hendrix burned his stratocaster in front of me as a child here in Monterey California..Peace christo
tu m'a fait pleurer :)
@@christoroppolo8742 King Crimson was one of Hendrix's favourite bands.
@@wbertie2604 I did not know that..am a huge fan of both

Thank you .
RIP David... Thanks King Crimson for this version. It made me cry...
Yes, it makes ones cry
David stay with us my friend..forever
I cried too ☝🏻
Same here, brothers...
Indeed
A fantastic version, such a tight arrangement for a live performance, yet they make it look easy: that's the sign of greatness.
Fripp's been a little "strange/different" thru the years, but few can argue he's not a great writer, arranger, and musician. Hell, I even named my German Shepherd after him 35 years ago !!!
¿¿¿¿???
Because King Crimson wrote Heroes for David Bowie.
I have a dog named Levin. He's got my wife's middle name as well to seal the naming deal.

How could I forget that Fripp played the guitar on this gem. That was part of Bowie's magic to collect everyone's talent and make it his own.
King Crimson wrote Heroes for David Bowie.
@@brycebullard3619No, it was David Bowie and Brian Eno.
Robert Fripp is the true master.
I was a senior in high school when this came out.. It was okay to my 17year old ears. Now at 63 it is impossibly wonderful.
So personal...I was in Berlin in 1989 when the Wall came down
Singer is the very best 😊
when you love David Bowie and King Crimson! you'll enjoy listening to this one more than before!
This Version Does Bowie JUSTICE!!!
Yes……David would be smiling……I am sure!
Why do I always listen to this like 30 times before I turn it off? Outstanding!
because you're an intelligent person!!!
It’s that good
Those tones, Fripp is just an astounding guitarist.
A truly amazing musician . Absolutely first class..
Fractal Ax Fx is what he is using, best amp modeler in the world.
Beautiful!
Cada vez que escucho al mejor grupo de Rock Progresivo del mundo se me pone la carne de gallina y cuando escucho esta obra maestra también me siento una Héroe.
Danke nochmal für den Song
He'd be proud of this for sure ❤
Lo que hizo Fripp en la guitarra de este tema es majestuoso
Mel Collins' sax adds such a gritty bottom-end to this version. Have always loved this song, this is my favourite version, Kudos to KC for nailing it!
My God - can never listen to this w/o going to pieces….
tears. of gratitude.
Absolutely 100% frickin astounding!! Love the song even more now!! RIP David . I remember you always.🙏
This is a wonderful tribute to Mr. Fripp's friend David Bowie, who we sadly lost last year 40 years since Fripp recorded his emotional solos on the original recording.
Coey Parsons: Look. We didn't 'lose' him. He died. Unfortunately!
> since Fripp recorded his emotional solos on the original recording.
I would swallow my tongue before saying the words "emotional" and "robert fripp" in one sentence
Just the best cover ever.!!
Dear Robert. Fripp
When I harde for the first time your album ( RED )
I had 13 years , I was touched by your fingers in your guitar ,
Thank you sir. Robert Fripp .
why the hell haven't I seen this before today???? incredible.......
This version reveals how important the role of Robert Fripp was in the creation and the success of this song. Thank you Robert !!!!
Fripp forever ❤️
Wonderful. A lot of Eno in there, too. We were so lucky to have had all these greats.
Just love this song best wishes colin UK
Probably the best version of the song.Great band great musicians, great arrangement.
Give Motorhead a try, they rock this song. Love this version too.
@@Alexandra_acount3 I've heard that many times and it's also a great version.
Fripp at his best ! RIP DB
WONDERFUL rendition of the song. Very warm, loved the vocals, DUG the sax and to hear Robert Fripp reprise his guitar work is nothing short of heartwarming.
Beautiful. Thank you
There are only two Bands who are worth it to "cover" this song. Thats motörhead and this fabulous Band called King Crimson! Thanks for sharing
Depeche Mode does it well too.
Right!
the best version - quality music
Holy cow . .Fripp cracked a smile at the end!!!
Nah, more likely that it was some freak muscle spasim
Wanna see him smile again? Easy Money Live Version with Jakko at the end as well
Steve Fortuna you killed me.
Randy Cone
Wanna see Robert Fripp smile? Whenever he is with Toyah. A marriage made in heaven.
-Oh my god! Look! Mr. Fripp is smiling! The power of music and the memory of his old friend made him smile!
-No, wait, shit, he's having a seizure
Flawless.
What a great song can never get bored of this best version by far Robert Fripps guitar plying must be up with the greats
Saw them last night awesome
That vibrato by Fripp, wow!
That's sustain!
Well he did perform the original solo so it makes sense that he do it right
Good as it was back then
It's both!
Sustainiac neck pickup
This is a Fripp & Eno song as much as a Bowie song, and this version with Tony Levin on base and Jakko Jakszyk signing has to be one of the greatest interpretations of this song ever, by all means.

That’s some truth… the production and collaboration make this a true classic.
It`s a great cover, no doubt. Heard it several times. Check out Andrea Schroeders helden, it is mindblowing. The best cover ever.
Disagree, Jakko sounds too dry and nasally, look up Adrian Belew con Elio e le Storie Tese - Elephant Talk / Heroes on yt, Belew's chorus imo sounds even better than the original
Mel Collins
Emotional stuff for me. I remember the wall being built & I remember footage of people being shot as they tried to escape. I stayed up & through tears of joy watched the TV coverage the night it came down. I remember being totally floored the first time I heard Heroes. Bowie, Eno, & Fripp together ? Was I dreaming ? It hasn't aged a day.
Fripp and Levin on the same stage. What a treat. Among the last of a dying breed
And Collins!
And Brando!
James Kovacic: See 'Tosin Abasi-The Woven Web'! These guys are far from being a dying breed.
...and is that Jason Bonham in the trademark trilby hat? What a lineup!!
Jeremy Stacey
The BEST cover of the great Bowie song!!...ABSOLUTELY STUPENDOUS version of the classic song!!...The visual footage of the Wall and the history behind it is GREAT too!!..WELL DONE King Crimson!!
King Crimson wrote Heroes for David Bowie.
Greatest song! Thank you, Mr. David Bowie! Bravo, "King Crimson"!
I am actually deeply moved by this wonderful version of Heroes. Thank heaps!
O-M-G!!! The song , the pictures, the history/ Heroes... indeed!
So tight, great vocals, really great and the magical riffs from Mr Fripp - live...I watch it every day.
Me too!
The vocals alone are just really sweet. I agree
Saw the original line up with Gregg lake on vocals before he joined ELP at Birmingham town hall.in the early 70s .Have got 3 cds on my juke box .8 speakers and 2 subs.Crimson King/ Lizard/ Poseidon.All.brilliant
Wow! Thank you…❤
For sure my Friend, God Bless Robert and thanks for sunday lunches !

Amazing Fripp..............40 yrs ago, with King David, and now.
David would have loved it and been very proud at the same time.
You know I'm 74 years young saw hendrix Clapton all of them Bowie, but methinks this is one kick ass version of a classic song, by a superb group, absolutely nailed it 👍 😂 😍 💖🎸🎶
King Crimson wrote the song for David Bowie.
Certainly some enviable memories there Benk. May your good fortunes continue.

This just underlines how fantastic this Crimson lineup is.
Ain't that the troof...
They have Gavin Harrison. Best drummer around these days.
there's no such thing as bad King Crimson line up......
One of the greatest ever

I saw Robert Fripp performing this live with David Bowie eons ago. Such a privilege to see and hear him doing it again!
Where?
@@mungofinalfi4480 Ummm... IIRC, The Forum in Inglewood (Los Angeles), California.
But I can't remember which tour, Heroes or Scary Monsters era maybe? There's only one band I've seen more times than Bowie, and that's Iron Maiden.
🤘💀🤘
Did Fripp stand up to play for Bowie?
@Ralph Reilly but....
It's just so obvious - the "sound". It's Robert Fripp. I also have an album from just around that era called "Fripp & Eno", and The conflation of artistic influences is unmistakable - Didn't Eno produce both the Low and Heroes albums?
And nowadays, Fripp is so much more tongue in cheek and self-deprecating with his fun, "Sunday Lunch with Toya and Robert" antics. He's earned the privilege of being so silly now 😜 after all the seriousness that has led to so many accolades.
@@bradleyd.thornton5963 It is the Sunday lunch thing that brought me here, going to see them in November at Cheltenham town hall, can't wait.
So good Godspeed David!!
Fripp is my favorite guitar player in the world . Peace Christo 👽🎶🐕🛸☮️💀🙏🎸❤️
I love how much fun Robert Fripp has when playing this
Fripp was totally in his element playing this. Fripp and his New Standard Tuning... smiles all the way!
This is so beautiful I could cry

What a wonderful and fitting tribute...Fripp, in Berlin, yeah...
Great Version! Thanks
One of my favorite songs, performed with power and intensity as it deserves.
I was there!! One of the best nights of my life!
Best version ever performed by original guitarrist.
He, He Geniuses! Saw them in New York, Pompeii , London and Buenos Aires, awesome, great, the best, incredible!!!!!!!
Reminds me of what an extraordinary band King Crimson was and still is. And Robert Fripp is in a class by himself.
I've always loved this song, but when I found out the story behind it, it now has such a deep meaning for me.
When Bowie was finally able to sing it face to face with the people off which he had written it for gave band members an incredible feeling that is hard to describe and rightfully so. God bless
Goosebumps.
The more I watch and listen to this version, the more I like it. The sound is deep, the vocals are great and the imagery is perfect.
Great line up for King Crisom
I was there that night the wall wa breached, forever in my memory...
I remember the day but I wish I could have been there.
Holey smokes they nailed it
John Parks it's king crimson. Were you expecting any less than perfection.
John Parks Not surprised, these guys are ridiculously talented. Plus Robert Fripp recorded guitar on the original
So much so that Fripp almost smiled at the end. I think this version is better than even Bowie’s live versions.
What a brilliant cover of a brilliant song.
As I reflect upon 2023 on the Eve of Christmas Eve, this song immediately came to mind. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to all…
Hats off to you! Nicely said!
What can I say??? A real classic version for this fantastic song of David Bowie!!!!!! God Bless you all!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
