  • There's nothing better to capture 'Summer' than a wonderful aquatic fragrance (something that you can enjoy even in the middle of winter!)
    I'm a huge fan of the Creed fragrances and the following 2 perfumes are no exception:
    Millesime Imperial and EROLFA have a wonderful beach aquatic vibe yet both are distinctly different to each other.
    I deeply love niche perfumes and find that they are unique and incredibly diverse. I am Marcelo and I'm the Niche Fragrance Collector.

    Erolfa is sensational.

  • @JT-rx1eo
    @JT-rx1eo Před 2 lety +15

    For me, EROLFA is the greatest true Aquatic/oceanic fragrance ever. As in all time. It's simply a face full of realistic sea spray while sailing the Mediterranean sea. And to the question of what true aquatic/oceanic notes are in EROLFA, it's the real ambergris. Ambergris, ambergris, ambergris! Quality ambergris with the realistic marine smell, as opposed to the fecal ambergris smell. That quality of ambergris, for which Creed is known, is the olfactory analogue to holding up a sea shell to your ear and "hearing the ocean" inside the shell. This ambergris had been floating around in the ocean probably for decades, marinating in sea water, undergoing chemical changes until it literally smelled like the sea, fish scales and mermaid tails included. Calone is not a real aquatic/oceanic note.
    EROLFA is the greatest true aquatic/oceanic fragrance in history.
    The more popular Millesime Imperial is its sibling with the ambergris turned down and fruit turned up. It's a sailboat on the Mediterranean, but full of fruit which partially blocks that beautiful EROLFA sea spray in the face. MI's performance is not as good either.
    Thanks for reviewing EROLFA, the greatest true aquatic/oceanic fragrance in history.

    • @JT-rx1eo
      @JT-rx1eo Před 2 lety +1

      @@user-rq7tt7qv6x I have Roja Oceania. Not 5x better. But I like Oceania, it's just that I actually classify Oceania not as an Aquatic/oceanic, but as what I call a "After the Rain" scent. Close to Aquatic/oceanic but not quite the same. Oceania smells more like the concrete of the marina just after a rain moved through the area. The petrichor. And Oceania does that very well. But it does NOT do the salty sea spray in the face once the boat leaves the marina as well as EROLFA. That's the difference between "After the Rain" freshie and Aquatic/oceanic.

    I have a vintage 1992 Erolfa and I do like it - I follow the rules and wear it when I’m anywhere near the coast. Heavy on the ambergris, which I think helps, and it also might be what you’re not so sure of?
    Strangely enough, I’ve never experienced Millesime Imperial 🤔

    • @TheNicheFragranceCollector
      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  Před 2 lety

      I would love to smell the difference (if there is one) to the vintage one you have. I don't think it's the ambergris as I like the musky/salty tones that this note produces.
      For me I seem to be really susceptible to 'fruity notes'. A fragrance that carries any fruit, for me it really pops for some reason. But as mentioned once I start moving into the drydown that 'unusual' component subsides and I get to really enjoy this one.

    You just have to spray 12 times , 4 sprays
    Let it dry 5-10 minutes and respray 4 more times
    Or just get milestone and it’s stronger with superior projection . If you really want to shine do about 3-4 sprays of xxx Zaharoff then layer the creed or milestone on top

      As you mentioned here, always best to keep your bottle in a cool dark place and I would recommend to keep it in its original packaging (just makes it easy)
      The only point is I would also recommend that you test the fragrance first. I realise that this will be tough based on the fact that you're buying off ebay (with the seller being possibly in another state)....but anyway, that's my recommendation to avoid disappointment on your part.

    With you on Millesime; I ***wish*** Millesime would push out more, it's barely a skin scent, and yes it does last and pop it's head up every now and then, and it is *sooooo* gorgeous, I have grown to love this sooo much, and you both have said, if *THIS* could perform like Aventus Cologne. Ironically I am actually wearing Millesime, one one arm it's one layered with Amborxan, and that absolutely ruined it. On the other arm it's layered ISO E Super, yes it projects a bit more, but ever so slightly alters the scent, other may not notice, but I do, and I wear Millesime for me, and not for the crowd, so depending on my mood I might wear it on it's own or layer it with a couple of spritses of ISO E Super, give it a go. I said I would not buy this bottle again due to performance, but I'm finding a hard time believing I won't. Anyway, based on this review Erolfa is off the list, m and based on you curiosity of me liking Viking or not, I might purchase Viking, not sure whether to go for the OG or the Cologne 🤔 Guys, thank you for a lovely review once again, and we have I'd say 75-80% similarity in tastes, if Erolfa is Citrus forward, then it's a no go, I'm having a citrus overload at the minute, Blenheim Bouquet from Penhaligon is to blame lol.

      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  Před 2 lety +1

      Great question and my response is actually mixed. This is for me:
      Best Compliments = Millesime
      Best Projection = EROLFA
      Whenever I'm wearing this Millesime and people come in contact with me (hug or kiss) they instantly comment on my fragrance. Also, my wife has a radar for this fragrance and can pick it up when I'm wearing it (she's a fan). However I find that EROLFA has better projection out of the 2, but I don't get as much "oohs and ahhhs" with this one (also because my wife think this one is ok).
      I also find that for me EROLFA is a more casual day/activity kind of fragrance. Whereas, Millesime is more of a statement maker, party, going out fragrance

      @@hocineted7594 Millesime is not a 'beast mode' fragrance. On me it does last 6-7 hours but I do have to spray more than what I normally spray with other fragrances. After about 5 hours it does become a body scent but I can still pick up the fragrance deeper in the day and my wife does smell it on me when she is up close.
      This is perfect a party or special occasion. But not so great as an all day fragrance

      I struggled with Megamare. I tested this one about a year ago and it was too intense (it has a darkness that I wasn't ready for). Plus I came at it thinking that it would be a perfect 'seaside/aquatic' fragrance.....I surprised😱
      Why do you love it?

    Erolfa has too many herby spicy notes to match with the theme it's supposed to be selling. Probably more woody notes than make sense for me to be in the middle of the Mediterranean. Whether it is that or the kind of musk it uses i find it to be a warm fragrance. Whereas MI is more refreshing. I find Erolfa very interesting and fairly pleasant, i had fun exploring it, but i think it's rare i would wear it instead of something else now.

      Yes, I hear you; there is more going on than just 'sailing the Mediterranean'. At the start it took me a while to really fall in love with EROLFA (the opening was unusual).....but over time this one really grew on me. However if it's a battle royale between EROLFA and MI.....then Millesime is going to win every time🧡

      I've bought the book, awaiting its arrival. Lying as charged would be bad, but it would only effect me buying Creed frags with historical backstories, like Tabarome Millesime and Royal Mayfair. Two things the author contends in his research that stand out to me regarding my view of Creed scents:
      1. Olivier Creed does not put a cost limit on the source materials that limits the perfumer, like all other houses in the bidding process for a fragrance. He essentially says use only the best ingredients.
      2. The author says in talking to sources in Europe, the general consensus is that Olivier Creed is the best scent evaluator in the world, and has been for the last 50 years.
      Yep, I'll keep buying Creeds, but if I decide they've been lying about history and celebrity tie-ins, and they come out with a new absinthe fragrance that "was created for Claude Monet", I'll pass on it.
      P.S I tested an absinthe fragrance yesterday, L'Heure Verte by Killian, so I looked up absinthe and learned that it was a popular drink among artists of the late 19th century, including Monet. That's why I used that example. Lol.

      Creed is a controversial House that obviously isn't for everyone. It's a "designer-esq" niche house that typically creates pleasing, non-challenging scent profiles, and that alone lowers its appeal to some, particularly the "Niche Snobs" or "Frag Snobs". That's OK because Creed jives with my philosophy, i.e. a fragrance can be as artsy, abstract, creative and even "challenging" as the creator(s) wants, but it better meet my first simple threshold requirement: that it be pleasant to smell. Too often "challenging" really means "smells bad".
      And Creed fragrances seem to contain really high quality ingredients. My favorites:
      Bois du Portugal
      Royal Oud
      Aventus
      Viking
      Green Irish Tweed
      Green Valley (discontinued)
      EROLFA
      Royal Water

      Interesting that the Creeds don't resonate with you. The reason why I asked about being too mainstream is because they are so instantly appealing that most people when they migrate from designer fragrances seem to start with something in the Creed family.....hence some people feel that they're not 'niche' enough
      BTW African Leather is awesome (well in my opinion)....I'd be curious to know your take on this fragrance once it lands.

      It's not so much that I change it, it has to do with my nerves😬
      I find that when I film solo, I'm doing extra thinking and I naturally roll my 'R's' like crazy. But in these kind of episodes (and especially with someone like Josh who has a real Aussie accent), I'm a lot more relaxed and then I tend to mimic words that I hear during the filming.
