The fact that even some of the newer shows on this list had gone missing for years, even up to a decade before resurfacing just goes to show how even now, with better archival techniques and television companies regularly preserving material instead of wiping it, there's still a wealth of rediscoveries to be made - I was quite surprised by how many of the entries are stuff I personally watched when I was growing up in the 2000's.

    • @daviniarobbins9298

I think this is more due to production companies making the episodes and then sending them to the channel for broadcast and then that production company destroys their master tapes. The TV channel thinking the master tapes are safe at the production company ends up destroying their copies shortly after broadcast without checking if said company still have the masters first.
Unless someone recorded the shows as they broadcasted they are lost forever.

Thomas has more lost media than any other program on this list, I’m also really surprised that Tugs did get a mention in your video. What makes Tugs somewhat part of the Thomas universe is that after the show was unfortunately cancelled, many props were brought by Britt Allcroft and were used for stand by background fillings for the rest of the model era of the show. It wasn’t till 2017 in the 21st season that a character called Big Mickey made his debut in the show to work alongside Carly and Crankey, originally an different character from the tugs series, and later becoming just a background filling from season three to that point - managed to get his original personality back!

It just occurred to me that not many children around that time would've known about gay couples. I grew up knowing my mum's friends Cliff and David. She was a minister from 2001-2019, and she actually married them back when California briefly allowed gay marriage prior to 2014. When she had me, we often visited their house and I always had a fun time just playing with the Legos they had. They were super cool guys. I'm glad I grew up knowing them. But it sucks knowing not many other kids had that experience.

some other interesting things about TUGS
    1. The episodes were originally meant to be 30 minutes, then 20 and then 15. The general consensus amongst fans is that the 20's are better as several continuity issues occur in the 15's
    2. David Mitton and Robert D. Cardona were behind the making of Tugs, two men who were once producers under Britt Alcroft for thomas and friends
    3. When Tugs was cancelled, many of the crew members on Tugs moved over to Thomas, thus why there's more dynamic shots and working water sets in Season 3 of Thomas than any of the previous
    4. Several props from Tugs were brought over to Thomas. Izzy a Mexican tramper ship (without a face), several dock cranes including Big Mickey, as well as several small shrimper boats
    5. Of the main cast, most props have since been rediscovered. All but Grampus the naval midget sub and Top Hat.
If for whatever reason you want a more in depth video on Tugs, go check out The Unlucky Tug's video on it. He did a really well put together deep dive esque video into the history of the show, defo worth checking out

I'm not entirely convinced that Tinky Winky wasn't intentional, it seems like the kind of cheeky British wit they'd sneak into one of their kid's shows. Hell, I'm not even entirely convinced it WAS a kid's show. I think it was some sort of litmus test to see how high the actual intended adult audience of stoners was. The "scary Lion" was clearly there to mess with pot heads, not children. Also, the guy who was actually instrumental in starting up the petitions that got the original North American Fraggle Rock series released actually works for the Muppets and Henson now. Be safe with the Tweenies! I remember that show. There was an episode I recall where Fizz got some cleaning products out of the cupboard and started playing "shop" with them. Max freaked out when he caught her and told her they contained dangerous chemicals!
That part about Mark made me a little sad. I thought he was hilarious on Smarteenies, with his "Small Picture...BIG PICTURE!" routine. Several years later, Mum told me that the show had been taken off the air because (suicide was not a taboo in our house) Mark's girlfriend had been killed in a car accident (she may have censored what really happened for a pre-teen...) and, as a result, he'd been so upset that he'd taken his life. Having experienced suicide ideation myself now, this story hits harder.
I actually have a memory of seeing Keith Harris and Orville live! They appeared in a local pantomime when I was a kid.
The Fab Lab was one of my fave shows when I was little, so I hope that one day its found in its entirety!
That section about the Sarah Jane Adventures had me intrigued. I didn't know they had spare footage - I assumed they'd stopped filming after episode 3! Before the last season aired, however, my Mum had other ideas. She honestly thought they must have filmed nearly all of the season and could cobble together the last few episodes by "pretending Sarah Jane was in the toilet"! Oh, Mum! XD
I actually have that last Letterland video...but I have NO idea if it could be transferred online! It's a commercial VHS, not a home recording!

Oh man, i remember the pingu’s nightmare episode so vividly. Growing up in the UK, pingu was absolutely my favourite show ever (alongside brum and some other great shows!) and I remember the day that pingu’s nightmare aired.
I have always found stop motion animation uncanny. Watching old Wallace and Gromit episodes used to weird me out as a kid (not enough to stop me from enjoying them though lmao) and Pingu was the same.
I remember watching the episode for the first time. I was very young and I was sat in the living room with my baby brother. My mum was upstairs and my dad was at work. I remember being weirded out by the beginning scenes, but the moment that god awful sea lion popped on screen I had an absolute meltdown. I covered my eyes, ran out the living room and curled up in a ball in the hallway screaming for my mum. I genuinely believe that was my first ever experience with a jumpscare.
As an adult now I still find that episode seriously uncanny. I had so many nightmares about Pingu for YEARS after that episode. I never finished the episode at the time so I was convinced pingu had been eaten and was dead 😭 I remember being on edge anytime the pingu theme song would play JUST incase that episode ever aired again. Incase you were never informed, Pingu wasn't eaten in that episode. The walrus just ate the mattress of Pingu's bed, while Pingu runs off to make an escape from the walrus, then his dream would end with Pingu falling from a ledge of ice, and then end up at the bottom of another bed, signaling the ending of the nightmare. Then the episode ends with Pingu most likely talking to his mother about the dream he just had. Just thought I'd inform you incase you still think Pingu was eaten and therefore was dead.

@@cisrot Well, thank you for informing me cause I thought for sure you still thought Pingu was eaten to this day and I was the only one who could inform you the truth. Which version did you see? If you seen the UK original audio version, then I'm so sorry you had to hear that childhood threatening theme that plays whenever the walrus shows up. But if you've seen the US version, then consider yourself lucky cause in the original audio UK version, whenever the walrus would show up, there'd be this "morbid" theme accompanying him (And the audio track in the US version is different from the original UK version), and if you're still scarred from the episode, then I'd recommend looking up the original audio version of the episode at your own risk. But yeah, I just thought I'd inform you of the actual ending so I could try and save your childhood in one way or another.

    🚨 I NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨
70 Lost & Banned Kid Shows from the UK, it's one of the proudest videos I've made so far for the channel, the overwhelming amount of lovely comments from people who either remember watching many of the shows or were even introduced to these programs for the first time helps to remind me as to why I love doing these projects so much, especially as a Brit it's so rewarding to finally give these shows a voice on the internet and talk about something that's closer to home.
I've had a few people ask if there will ever be an update video, while I'm slowly looking into that prospect to see if there have been any recent revelations, I've noticed that I've had a few comments on that video which has expressed interest into lending a hand with any kind of search, or were even able to help to clarify with some of the info that I relayed, so if there's anybody out there that would love to reach out then please feel free to send me a PM either on social media or email, I would really appreciate anybody that could lend a hand either research or even if you can dig up any of these lost UKTV treasures that were mentioned on the list.
The update won't be the next video as that will need to take time, but definitely down the road there is more UK lost media to discuss, what the hell I'm sure there's enough to make up another top 70 list I didn't even cover... Haha

My theory about Syd the missing tweenie was he was reworked into both Milo (his original purple skin concept) and Judy from the plush and puppet version where his skin seems to be the exact same green tone as Judy. Maybe Max was at one point the only teacher in Tweenies with 5 kids and one kid got reworked into Judy

Though one show I never really see get brought up in these videos is CBBCs I Want My Own Room, where kids would get either their rooms redone or would get some extra space to do what they love, because that show seems to be nowhere nowadays.

In regards to the Tweenies pilot, I very much doubt a costume for Sid was ever created. Also the singing heads were actually the heads made for the puppet versions of the characters used for location shooting, when they would shoot the show in the studio the characters would be costume performers with giant animatronic heads were as for location filming they would use puppets (the transition between puppets and costumes stuck out like a sore thumb, even as a kid I thought there was something off about the Tweenies whenever they went outside).
Prototype costumes were made however I don't know what they look like, although the costumes used for the first series look completely different to the ones in later series suggesting those might be the prototype costumes.

Kipper was my childhood on Nick Jr!), and stuff that I'm hearing about for the first time. Mostly the live-action shows; I guess I'm a bit of a animation/kid's show nerd, so I probably sought out a lot of this stuff and learned about it over the past decade or so thanks to CZcamsrs. No mention of, 'Playschool?' Mind you, that would be a huge archive if it were ever to be attempted. Much like a lot of shows, each broadcast originally only got one broadcast, (although, 'playschool, was repeated once, the same day in it's earlier run), before being wiped. The idea of archiving the show was never even considered as it wasn't seen as worth keeping. Although, not a kids show as such, the same goes for, 'Top Of The Pops', but has faired better with many editions having been kept.

Despite Teletubbies being a UK television show, the bear and the lion skit also aired in the Netherlands and kids over here thought the episode was just as unsettling. So I don’t think the problem with the skit are the dubs really. Also really interesting how that episode made the cut for being translated, despite the fact that back in the 00s it was very common it took a while before shows and episodes got translated. So they had a chance to notice the skit may have been too scary to broadcast in the Netherlands as well. But they didn’t use that feedback and translated it anyways.
