As a Canadian diabetic nurse educator, it’s a good thing that much of this is being treated but she doesn’t acknowledge her responsibility in much of it. It’s incredibly frustrating.
She said that no matter what she did, she couldn’t get her glucose under control. Does she mean that her binging, mukbangs and noncompliance to treatment didn’t help her diabetes? Big shocker. What exactly did she do? She cannot accept any responsibility for her actions. Rather than listening to her doctors, she chose to do what she wanted and the end result of it is the need for 3 meds to control diabetes, ongoing infections due to her uncontrolled glucose, likely kidney damage and the need for cholesterol meds due to her poor food choices. This is where noncompliance and no impulse control has gotten her. Being lazy and irresponsible instead of following medical advice has put her here.
Despite her heaping praise on the medical care in Kuwait, Canada would have provided this and much more had she been truthful and actually followed through. One example that immediately comes to mind based on my career in diabetes management is the use of lantus insulin. While this is still used and was a common treatment for type 2 in the past, it has a major side effect of weight gain. If you’ve ever watched my 600 lb life, you’ll notice that this is why Dr. Now immediately tries to get his patients off of it. Type 2 diabetes can often be reversed in these patients with weight loss so it is counterproductive to put them on meds to prevent it. In Canada, she would likely have instead been placed on an ozempic type injectable medication instead that would not only decrease her glucose and control diabetes, but also promote weight loss. This might be the only med required but instead, she now requires 3, including insulin. She also received no instruction there prior to starting insulin. Compared to current treatment in North America for a supermorbidly obese diabetic, this is an older approach that leads me to believe that citizenship and residential status has created a 2 tier approach to treatment there. We saw this with her sciatica treatment, when pain meds were not provided to those on a travel visa (like her) and she instead got vitamin injections. I have to also wonder if more modern treatments that we see in the west for diabetes were also not provided.
I noticed as well that she tried to downplay the use of zocor. Chantal received this for 1 reason,….lifestyle choices that were reflected by her cholesterol levels on her bloodwork. She instead tried to downplay the reason for it as though it was kidney related. I assure you, in this care it was not. She also has declined to explain the reason for the ongoing infections. In the past year, there has been numerous skin infections (boils or abscesses) and UTIs or kidney infections. This is very common with those with uncontrolled diabetes. It is often how diabetes is first discovered. It has triggered much of her diabetic care and yet, she has rarely of ever correlated the two.
This debacle has made it very clear to me that had Chantal been truthful when she 1st saw this doctor, she would not be in her current position. Her claims of being “so happy” because of this treatment should instead be one of “I’m so irresponsible” because had she listened the 1st time, she’d require a fraction of this treatment and likely not require insulin today. She is again trying to pat her back as if she has helped herself instead of creating the situation.
She was to follow up with this 1st doctor, who was an internal med specialist I believe. She instead chose not to. She knew that she wasn’t following guidelines or sticking to the diet plan so rather than admitting that or him discovering this by returning there , she chose to go to random other clinics instead where she could tell them her version of the truth. She could deny her noncompliance. She could feign ignorance. Chantal chose to start and stop her meds despite having glucose levels in the 400s at times. She chose to resume mukbangs, binge eat and consume endless amounts of carbs even when not taking meds. She chose to do no activity to burn off even a few calories, such as clean her home. Her enabler chose to facilitate this, knowing the cost to both her health and their wallet when she would need specialized care for each medical crisis due to her choices.

No questions about why I think that, just silence and if you have any questions, let us know. Ffs, the Canada Food Guide is paid for by lobbyists and has absolutely nothing to do with what is healthy to eat for a human let alone a diabetic. But there is a sea of conflicting information beyond that and I’m a little confused.

So I originally said when she was sick on her walk that she had super, sticky dry mouth, and seemed to noticeably be avoiding having water.
At one point, she even says, okay I’ll have a sip now.
Now, we all know what with her onslaught of super high blood glucose readings and out of control eating, came LOTS of liquids and thirst.
Initially, I recall literally cringing 😬 at her grocery hauls and her counting half gallons of juice like treasures, slurping down cases of orange “drink” juice, etc etc…
So even during the FOF reaction channels I’m gonna Mukbang all day every day weeks before this, I noticed she’d changed to zero sugar beverages and 🤔…
So she was aware that drinking the large quantities of sugary drinks was making it worse but still was swigging water and such.
So back to walk day…. I thought to myself, her kidneys aren’t working right. She knows that if she drinks, it won’t come out and cause her to just swell.
And I also said her “sciatica” most likely was a return of flank pain.
I’m curious at this point how much kidney damage has been done.
An infection is one thing and yes, diabetics without control are more likely to have them, but I think it’s more serious and affects her function.
I believe this is going to get more complicated, more serious and she’s going to get more laid back and let in more foods and that’s when we will see if she can maintain this in Kuwait.
I do think she simply wants a medication that will stop all this and let her Beese (eat whatever she wants in peace)
I also believe FB has a bit of hypochondriac in her in that she enjoys being the sick girl with a sad tummy, give her treat in special packaging and special care….
But only up until it becomes a barrier to her having what she wants.
It’s why she has been dx’d and prescribed so many times yet never has any follow through.
    This won’t go away though.

I think you can’t believe a word she says. When she was raging before, she claimed the glucose meter was only reading so high because it was broken and not calibrated correctly. Now when she wants her current high readings to look like progress, she’s telling us her numbers were in fact what they were showing up as on that new meter.
Her lies about how affordable healthcare is for her there changes with each story. At first she claimed it was cheap. Then she said it was expensive and she needed to go back to Canada solely for her health. Now she’s back to saying it was cheap again. Obviously, her story for the price being the same for a clinic visit before and for a clinic visit, +hospitalization + patient education course is sus.
None of these doctors are been given a full picture. What she really likes about this whole hospitalization process is all the attention from doctors and from Salah. She also was happy that the doctor supposedly said she could reverse a lot of this with diet changes. What she heard was that she could eat her idea of healthy, Whole Foods for a few days and poof, diabetes be gone! Or maybe like before, eat what she wants as long as she has a unilicity drink first…
She’s already saying she’s feels better and is harping on her supposed weight loss. In her mind, if she eats one so called healthy meal, she acts like she has turned her whole life around. Just like last time, she briefly lost some of her food cravings for a few days due to being sick. She acted like she conquered her eating disorder and had been on a healthy eating plan for months. She was educating people and looking back at her behavior from the distant past of two weeks prior with disbelief and was certain she’d never go back to that. All we kept hearing was how she lost 15 kg so she must be doing something right. Nevermind she looked bigger than ever and was just coming off of being massively sick. According to her then, the illness probably wasn’t even diabetes related because Salah had it too.

As usual, you provide clear and informative analysis Sansa. The one thing I'll point out is MANY T2 wind up requiring insulin even with good control per my doctor. It all depends how much pancreatic beta cell function is left once the factors leading to insulin resistance are controlled (diet, obesity). I had some Beta function left but over time I had to add a little Lantus.
If Foodie is discouraged this early in this latest "health arc", then she'll never make it. It can take months of dosing adjustments, medication changes, dietary manipulations, exercise and weight loss to get tight control. Then once you have control it's a lifelong process to stay there. (been there done that) Can anyone honestly say that she has that amount of effort and dedication in her? Methinks not!
Something is indeed not passing the smell test. I'm MUCH smaller than Foodie and had MUCH lower sugars at the time and I was started on 20 units Lantus.

    • @calendarpage
      @calendarpage Před měsícem +2

Yup. I volunteered to go on insulin years ago because I couldn't function with metformin, after trying several times. Not everyone gets used to it and people who haven't been on it don't know how much gastric distress it can cause (I'm trying to be polite here). Over the years, I've greatly reduced my dosage, and there are days when I need very little (like 4 units) or none at all. And my Lantus use has gone from 70 to 16. Big difference. It's not a failure for a T2 to use insulin. It's another choice among many diabetic medicines.
All that said, I've been doing this for > 29 years. Chantal is never going to learn how to dose her insulin correctly for the carbs. She'll either use too little or use a lot to cover the hubcaps of rice. She'll never be compliant - which won't work out well for her.

If she believes that Kuwait's medical system is more accessible than in Canada, she's completely incorrect. It's pretty much the same, because she's paying for it DIRECTLY instead of paying taxes to help fund its universal healthcare system.
When I was ALLEGED(I say alleged, because the doctor made that suggestion WITHOUT testing me) to be severely allergic, I was given two meds: Nasal spray and cetirizine. Turned out I needed NEITHER, because blood tests I got after my initial diagnosis proved I wasn't allergic to ANYTHING. And I wasn't happy about the medications I didn't need. If she's giddy about medications, then she'd better start setting up timers for when to take her next dose of medicine.

You did an excellent job with your analysis of Chantal's medication. What was missed was Chantal's 'giveaway' concerning her actual weight. She told us that she was instructed to take 15 units of insulin a day. As you know insulin dosage is in part determined by the patient's actual weight. Since Lantus is dosed at 0.2 units for every 2.2 pounds of body weight, Chantal unknowingly gave us her actual weight. What makes this issue even more problematic is that she is still told to take 100 mg of Januvia twice daily. ' Gorl, you a lie, at 340 lbs/154 kgs'. Sansa, you're always right when you say 'Chantal always gives herself away'. When you play dumb games you win dumb prizes.

      @Dr_Augustus_MD Před měsícem

@@s3304 That's correct, but as I mentioned, the real information is determined by the continued dosing of Januvia at 100 mg twice daily. Januvia dosage, like Lantus, is dosed in part by weight and A1C blood sugar levels. Her Januvia dosage would then be determined based on the efficacy levels achieved by the Lantus. Think of it as building a basement before you build a house's first floor. The Januvia dosage Chantal takes is indicated for a person with a weight between 200 to 250 lbs./91kg to 114 kg. Therefore, resulting in Chantals' indicated weight range of 365 lbs. to 415 lbs. /166 kg to 188 kg. (200 + 165)/(250 + 165). Keeping in mind this is only an approximation, but a very good one. Salah will have to get familiar with hypoglycemia and figure out how to get her help because she'll go too loopy to get help herself. Forgive me for not having any faith in him doing that either. This is scary. Insulin is not something you want to be peak Dunning-Kruger over.

I feel the same way about the insulin. She's clearly very confused about all of her medication.

I feel like she is trying to pin her diabetes on some other illness and it very rarely works that way (as in I'm not aware she has been receiving steroid injections which may raise blood sugar). She needs to address her diet and weight...period...she cannot run from this.

As much as I dislike her and I truly dislike her. You never want too watch someone kill themselves. I hope she makes some progress.

Right ? My 69 brother is type 2 diabetic and really manages it well . Only on meds. He travels from NE USA to Spain ( about 7 hour flight) and he has a tough time managing his BSL’s. She s going to crack trying to travel with needles , meds , insulin and trying to eat at proper intervals . I think even border hopping via car is going to be very hard on her mentally and physically.

I think she’s trying to make it seem like out of pocket healthcare in Kuwait is affordable and that would decrease the amount of comments she’d have to delete telling her to go back home.
People feel helpless and think going back home is best for her but you are right Sansa, she never tried. No matter where she is, her food addiction is with her. And the fact that she isn’t willing to learn about the how and why it’s there means she’s not going to change.
I’ve been watching Maryam Muckbang and even though they are two different channels, I haven’t felt any anger and animosity watching her. It’s been nice.

I'm really getting tired of her blaming her high BS on being sick. I'm a T2 and had a flesh eating bacteria with8 secondary infections, emergency surgey, coma for a week, in ICU on a ventilator for a week, and in the hospital for a month, and my numbers NEVER got that high. EVER! Her numbers were that high because she stuffed her face, sat on her azzz, and laid around in the seal position, doing nothing. She thought she could eat like a p*g if she over used her Metformin. Magically, EVERY symptom she had when she said she was so sick is a symptom of Metformin OD. Look it up. Every symptom including dry cough, lower back pain, and difficulty urination. I think she was taking many more than 3 Metformin a day, TBH.
