This was shot in Madison Ga 1991. I was on the lighting crew. We watched them play this 30+ times… amazing lighting design produced by Robert Roth and company. I was in charge with loading the igniters on the Super Trouper spotlights. Every take was chilling.
I remember the first time I heard it... I stopped still and couldn't believe what I was hearing... It instantly became my favorite song...to this day when I hear it, it takes me back to that day and makes me smile
Me too. I heard it on the radio riding to the beach with a good friend of mine and his parents. I was 11 years old so it had probably been out less than a year. It was a hot ride with no a/c.
This sounded so fresh and incredible at the time. Although REM didn't tour behind Out of Time, they did cross the world promoting the album and played any number of promotional shows. At all of the promotional shows, Bill Berry was basically playing Bongo/Conga type drums. Every version of Losing My Religion I heard on every bootleg and traded tape I could find was sedate. Beautiful, yes, but sedate. It was great to have the kick of a full drum set behind the song again. Just great.
May I suggest Coming Back To Life by Pink Floyd? This is my favorite rem song. So many ppl get hung up on what the song REALLY mean.. Who GAF? It's art meeeeaaaannnn. It means what it makes you think of. For example I love Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night. Reminds me of a Cold Lonely Night. My friend Bob however, sees aliens and tadpoles and crap. Weird. I seem to have wondered a bit.
@@mojavegreen1804 I love Pink Floyd! I also love Starry Starry night by Don MvClean (I am old enough to remember that one) but that song makes me feel sad. I can't explain how I feel about Losing my religion, I absolutely love the song, I suppose it gives me a feeling of regret.
Love this song, it was played on my friends funeral and so very sad. Every time I hear this it so reminds me of her. I'm sure she is so happy in heaven 💗
Agreed. I went to an Anastacia concert last year & was blown away by original music and a voice that could be heard outside the venue, I'm sure. So I would give every gig a try & see what happens. REM 3 times here in Ireland. '95, '99 and '03.
Michael Stipe is so memorizing, watching him, the intensity in his eyes, listening to him singing every word in perfect pitch. Wow. This song came out when I was 7 and I've loved it since then.
Lo resumo asi: es, fue y sera un hermoso sueño 😔😢😍🤗❤ y que mejor cancion como esta joya para expresarlo, sobretodo con esta magnifica y perfecta interpretacion del gran Michael Stipe en vivo.
PS: One of the best bass players ever too. Usually nothing flashy or extremely difficult, just the stuff that fleshes out the song and at the right place in the mix.
Man he killed in the drums. The snare was great , his floor symbols were crisp and the bass player wasn't too shabby either. That was more like a great studio sound. And vocals? As we say in NYC...fugetaboutit! His best live performance so far for me.
That drum sound just kills. They were promoting this baroque, acoustic album of love songs but you can see here that they were a hardened, veteran rock band after a solid decade of touring.
So grateful I got to see this song live, in Cleveland, Vote for Change, 2004. It is one of the best songs ever. And btw, Michael has said countless times that the song has nothing to do with religion. It’s about unrequited love, a powerful and even eviscerating force for many of us.
Mike is KILLIN it on bass!!!!. I can think of 30 other bands I like way more but damn, I respect and appreciate these dudes. great musicians! this is definitely my favorite song that has mandolin in it that's for sure
Love it so much. How lucky those people were r e m didnt tour for 5 years a rare performance for MTV 10 year anniversary . This was done in Athens with a couple thousand lucky fans who got on line . This song so central rain and driver 8 really get me. Stipe is a brilliant lyricist . Thanks for the upload !! They didn't tour this album and it was their biggest selling album ever . They toured all previous albums so it shows who knows why things will hit bc a lot of their songs are awesome but this one really has that special something and obviously that's why it was a smash hit
Excellent song and REM was at their prime in songs and performing. Way ahead of their time. Songs mean so much and pull at my heart ♥️ love the orchestra playing with them!
yes, his voice is that flawless! actually he says "consider this, consider this the hint of the century. consider this the slip that brought me to my knees." The song is about his crush on another man.
@@GGGritzer Still, this song has nothing to do with him. People can write fiction, specially broad, abstract themes anyone can relate to. He said this was just his attempt at "Every breath you take", but as usual, he got too serious...
@@surgeeo1406 , the reckoning is between people who know Michael it was a struggle with his sexuality and how people react to it. I have heard this said more than once. The song actually makes sense to me now after hearing that.

Sure is!
Indeed. A MASTERPIECE.
It truly is!
It haunts me.
It’s a near perfect song.

2024 anybody?
😢
This is my favorite live version of the song hands down
Just pure raw talent. Sounds better than many singers recordings!!
from JAPAN❤
in my openion this is the best live version of that song
absolutely, I've listened to them all.
I agree, too.
Cause Michael stipe doesn’t say “ah nou” I said to much. He actually says “oh no”
This and the acoustic session in Holland.
There is a deep cut of this song live that Verison is the Best! It was live by the way!
I remember the first time I heard it... I stopped still and couldn't believe what I was hearing... It instantly became my favorite song...to this day when I hear it, it takes me back to that day and makes me smile
same here

Probably the best song sang live that sounds as good as the actual recording. I think R.E.M. was one of the most underrated bands.
Ur missing nirvana or the beatles
Try paint it black live in Germany oct.1985
It really is a underrated band for the lovely awesome cool OUTSTANDING music they produce
Yes I am, I don’t understand if you diagtee

This song never gets old
I AGREE 🙋♂️FROM 2028 , 🤔 BUT NEXT YEAR🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️

And that ladies and gentlemen is how you perform live.
I'm much emocion for it
That's for sure!
Perfection!
Heard a gillion versions of this song, this is absolutely the best one and Bill Berry is a super underrated drummer.
REM Road Trip 1995 is damn close.......
I always wondered if there was ever a song that took your breath away so much that you couldn't find the right words, well I think I have found it.
definitely
Amen. It hits the nail on the head with so many raw emotions. The bittersweet of lost love.

Wow.

Mike's atmospheric excellence

The orchestral music is ESSENTIAL!! Brings the mood and feeling to the song. So much depth.
Two Thumbs Up
Listen to the unplugged version. Best vocal performance by Stipe. The emotion he pours into it is unbelievable; as always.
I'm addicted to this song :/

What a great video. I keep watching it because it is addictive!! What a great video!!! You don't see this anymore.
Holy hell, that bass tone is great
probably the best live version ive heard so far
this song will never grow old' I can listen to this for decades.
What a voice. He didn't need playback. :)
No. It's not playback. He never needs playback.
Yep. He stays true to the song in his live performances better than about any lead vocalist also I think - and I love that!
as the true artist, it's a true concert :D

Miguel Barbosa Fans all around the world would love to see them one last time for all the lost memories of youth.
Addicted to this song and Micheal's breathtaking voice! Wow just Woww!!
How could anyone dislike this performance 🤔
Absolutely wonderful! The best live version ever! The thumping drum sound is just superb... and how it only managed 440 thousand view is beyond me!!!!

A touch of genius.
no one understands this song til they have been utterly in love with someone who couldn't give a shit.

This is one of the greatest songs of all time.Song is change my life Very thanks R.E.M I love you
that's so cool that he's hitting the floor tom with every snare hit
never noticed that
Me neither! Sounds pretty good though
You can hear it in the studio version as well. For every three snares he switches it up. Maybe four.
