Ive watched lots of How to videos repairing cars and trucks but this is the best one yet. Not too much talking but to the point , informative. 5 of 5 Stars
Thanks so much for the video, helped a lot, just successfully did an oil change on my renegade. Just a heads up for anyone changing the oil hot, there will be some oil leakage from the filter, be sure to have an oil pan ready. Also I found it really difficult to maneuver the filter around the air cleaner, I ended up using a 10mm socket to remove the plastic cover. 2 screws and then push forward and left with a counter clockwise twist and the clip at the back will come out without breaking anything 🤞
Thanks for the video! I just did my first oil change on my GF's 2017 Altitude. The first change was done by the dealer. I used Royal Purple 5w-40 which says it meets Euro specs and is API Certified. One thing that I had to do differently was to drop the dirty filter into the drain pan below instead of pulling it up and out of the engine bay. I tried pulling it up and out, but about half the way out I realized that I had gotten oil on a bunch of hoses and other parts. I had removed it from the neck of the filter housing (after draining the oil completely but before putting the plug back in) and let it drain, but I couldn't get enough out for a clean removal. Dropping it down into the pan solved that issue handily.
I own a FIAT 500L and as soon as the warranty period is over I will change the oil and filter myself. Thanks for the video as I would never have found that oil filter housing nut by myself.
@@JrsGasolineAlley Gave it a try but could not get the the 37mm socket onto the nut. Too many things in the way and too weird an angle. Not sure how you did it.
I have 67K trouble-free miles on my 1.4T and have never used the drain pan. Vacuum pump dropped down into the dipstick tube until it hits the bottom is a much faster and cleaner way to extract the oil.
@@JrsGasolineAlley Hydro-turf extractor. Only fifty bucks on amazon for mine, and then I bring the small round container to walmart down the street, and they pour it out for me free of charge. Easy peasy for someone that doesn't have a lift like you do. Oh BTW, you can probably add Fiat 500 (non-X) and Fiat 124 Spider to the list of vehicles, as they are all the same engine. Vacuum is especially useful on the Spider, as on that FCA car you have to drop a metal shield just to get to the drain.
My question is that I have the 2.4 engine & it requires full synthetic 0w20 oil, would it hurt to use 5w20. I was just curious Thanks for all your videos on the Renegade, they all are helpful
Thanks for watching, you definitely want to use the 0w20, as that is what is needed for these modern engines. The first number is the viscosity at lower temperatures and you don't want something too thick that could damage the engine.
The oil spec for these engines (from the manual) states "the manufacturer recommends synthetic engine oils that are API Certified and meet the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-12991." Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic Euro 5W40 is one of the only ones around that has that certification. (Note for Canadians: They sell it at Canadian Tire and it goes on sale 2 or 3 times a year) Others claim to meet the certification, but are not officially certified by Chrysler, so who knows. The key is to look for Chrysler MS-12991. Mobil 1 and others do not meet the standard.
Quaker State makes a full synthetic oil the meets all the standards required by Fiat Chrysler for the Renegade. I have a 1.4 turbo that uses 20w-40 All the specs are on back of the bottle and includes Fiat vehicles. Easier to afford than the Pennzoil Euro. In my area Pennzoil is $10 per quarter and Quaker State is $18.97 at walmart. I think the dealers use Pennzoil because of a contract with them. I have heard that is true and that it is not true. SMH. The dealer oil change here is $89.00
@@rickeymitchell8620 Are you sure it uses 20w40? My Fiat 500L also has the 1.4L turbo and it requires 5W40. Anyway, in Canada Canadian Tire sells the Pennzoil Platinum Euro oil. The regular price is $60 but it goes on sale frequently for $32 (Canadian) for 5 Litres. I'll have a look for the Quaker State synthetic the next time. Thanks for the tip. I saw that Walmart sells a synthetic 5w40 made by Supertech which is cheaper. I wonder if it's any good.
Hi, thanks for the vid. I'm trying to find where the crankshaft position sensor is located on this same car. I have the 2018 latitude 1.4liter 2wd manual transmission and can't find help anywhere. I just need someone to tell me where it is mounted. Thanks
I realize this doesn't relate to this video, but I need help. I too have a 2015 model, with a key start. Not sure if you have key or keyless, but this car will absolutely not surrender my key if I insert it without driving the car. No problems at all after a drive, but say I just want to insert the key to check something dash related... Its not going to give it up. I literally have to drive it up the street and back into my garage, then it will release it. MADDENING! If you have a key start, or know anything about this, please advise me. BTW love the gun vault vid. Great idea!
JeepRenegadeGuy It's the automatic. Problem may be just a quirky thing I need to adjust to. I have since learned of a slight delay that I need to compensate for. If I relax, take my foot OFF the brake, cock the key just a tad backwards, it has been releasing. If the problem returns, there is a way to bypass the issue by taking the lower steering panel off and tweaking the solenoid somehow. Hope that won't be necessary. I can also put in an aftermarket remote start because Jeep doesn't offer this on vehicles that didn't get it new. The safetybelt chime is also very annoying when I'm in a drive through. Traditional methods have failed to disable it on this car. Just a gripe, I really like this car! Keep up your vids because they really do help! Thanks, Mike.
There is a feature with some cars that will lock the key into the ignition under various circumstances. I would recommend checking out some of the forums on this issue as I had this problem with my GF's Rav4 and it turns out that if the steering wheel locked with the key in the ignition, it would not release the key until the steering lock was undone.
My 2015 FIAT 500L does the same thing to me. I can't count the number of wrestling matches I've had with my car over who's going to own the key. I have to start the engine up, turn if off after a couple of seconds and pray that it cedes me the key.
I went to Amazon thru the link you have for the oil filter. It says the filter you have mentioned does not fit the 2018 1.4T jeep renegade. Just letting you know. I like the thought of using a Mopar oil filter.
When removing the cartridge does oil fly out like a regular spin on oil filter.. Do I need to put an oil filter Pan under before removing the cartridge?
You can use a pair of vicegrips on a 27mm and get it from underneath. Its dumb as fuck they made the oil filter like that. Gotta spend 100 dollars on tools to take the oil filter off? Fuck man
My Jeep Renegade which is a 2018 1.4 L Turbo has a different type of filter than what is shown on the video. What type of filter would you recommend as a replacement for this. Appreciate if you could give the part number too. Cheers.
The breaker bar referenced in your video notes is not the same one used in your video. The Amazon part no. is a breaker bar that can't be connected to a ratchet wrench. Unfortunately I bought the referenced item.
The breaker bar would attach directly to the socket, not a rachet. You would use the breaker bar to start the unscrewing portion and then swap the socket onto a ratchet.
The filter I use on my 2016 Renegade is a Fram #10060 & is located in front of the oil pan above the skid plate if you have the trailhawk, reachable without removing plate.
I noticed amazing difference in noise of engine. I used Mobil one for twenty years.. It's a bit more expensive but try it for yourself. There is a video on a engine running quiet with it and that's no bologne.. your renegade is European engine and and oil is designed for it. I have a fiat and a jeep as well. Mobil one has been in my jeep for a hundred thousand and no smoke or anything but does leak a bit. Good oil but switching to and oil made big difference.. let me know
My 2017 renegade burned two quarts of oil in 5k miles using mobile 1 extended performence, i changed to pennzoil platinum been driving a month now and has not even burned a drop of oil. And oil was very dark at 5k!
All I can really say is... Italian made horse shit. A swivel, two extensions, a 27mm socket and a joint, just to remove a plastic case that houses the oil filter? Do yourself a favor and just sell this Euro turd and get something that takes what an oil change should take, one socket, and at most a filter wrench.

Thank you for doing this. I couldn't have figured it out without your video, even though I am a mechanical engineer.
Glad to help.

thank you for this video. really helpful.

Really nice video mate, very helpfull !
One question, can you tell me the size of the drain plug gasket ?
Cant find it anywhere

got your own car jack in the garage dam! why not spring for the Maserati too bro
Lol, lifts don't cost nearly as much as you think. Infact for one year of maintenance cost of a used Ghibli you could buy yourself a lift
1"1/16th socket can be used if 27mm is not available.
Close enough?
hello sir
where u buy that mopar oil filter
can u tell me part number
Hello do you know where is fuel filter located??
Why 5w40
Jeep company said you have to use 0w20
That's for the 2.4
Is the filter in the same place in the 2016 2.4 renegade , and is the filter the same style ?
Did you ever get this answered? And do the tool work for 2.4 as well?

Didn't show the hardest part, pulling out the old cartridge from the cap!
Why was your check light on at the end
Turn your accessories on but not the engine. It will leave those 3 lights on because the car isnt runing.
ok but how do you reset the mileage countdown? where is says to service within a certain amount of miles or days?
Not sure, isn't that related to other scheduled maintenance?
The pieces don't fit!
Why the spark plugs was not replaced? Basic servicing shld replaced spark plugs. What about checking the air filters?
Different plug type for the multi-air turbo. Change every 100,000 if following plug rating
