    after fiddling with serum, i can understand what you were doing :D and i loved it entirely!!! i enjoyed this entirely hahhaa. i hope you try out "rainy night in tallin". even though you mentioned you're not going to try out a specific track, but im requesting as the main arp in that has two harmonics in which only one can be heard at a time. it sounds like you're playing the arp from "down to up" on the piano roll and "up to down" on the piano roll in terms of arp notes. please do check out ludwig's breakdown on "palindromic" meaning of that particular track.
    yet you can only hear "one" of them at a time. like if u concentrate only on one, you'll hear that alone.

      @Isothrill Před 3 lety +11

      Its actually quite simple. Hes got two oscillators playing the same notes except one is detuned. Running them both through the same filter and instead of modulating the cutoff as usual, he instead modulates the envelope amount and pitch wheel. When he modulates the envelope amount, instead of hearing more frequencies the sound actually "plucks" from higher and higher frequencies while the cutoff value remains the same.

    • @ThomannSynthesizers
      @ThomannSynthesizers  Před 3 lety +1

      Sure, no problem. First you need to know that a Stereo signal is basically nothing else but two mono signals (one left & one right). So when you are listening to music on a stereo system, each of the speakers plays a different mono signal creating the illusion of 3dimensionality. You can "make something mono" with various hardware or software tools. In Ableton for example it's called "utility". It allows you to choose between 'stereo', 'right only', 'left only' or various gradations of "width" where '100%' is the normal stereo signal '200%' means only the stereo content and '0%' means only the mono content. Hope this helps.

      Because in this particular case the fast attack and short decay time of the filter envelope open the filter only for a short amount of time, resulting in a short burst of high frequency content, which is the nature of most transients and percussive / drum sounds.
