    I have fished the tikka minnow this year and the rapala. Tikka minnow works just as great as the Rapala. But better in deeper waters due to the fact some of the tikka minnows glow and the tail is metal. Have not had one break on me. The glow and the one piece body of the tikka minnow seals the deal for me.

    Just stumbled on your channel. New subscriber. I am a jigging rap fanatic. Recently I have increased my floro leader to 30# to decrease my line wrap on bottom treble hook. I found that it decreases fowling and has not effected hook ups due to line shyness. Give it a try. Thanks for the video

    This is my favourite ice jigging lure and I also had several Jigging Rap with broken tails. I had solve this problem with adding a little bid of lurex instead of plastic tail. The length of lurex should be +\- as a length of plastic tail. And it works perfect!

  • @StanleyVohnoutka
    @StanleyVohnoutka Před rokem +1

    Epoxy the tails, it eliminates lost tails entirely. I once lost 9 tails in a span of an hour or two . I was so mad i emailed Rapala from the middle of the lake I was on. I take a toothpick and 5-minute two part epoxy and glue the underside of the tails and make sure your slurry covers the hook on the underside of the tails. No more problems. Note - the flat rap has the same problem.

    I didn't hear if you used a leader. Put about 2 feet of 12 pound floro leader to your braid. The floro stiffness will most the time keep it from flipping on the lure.

    • @fishitfirst2798
      @fishitfirst2798  Před 3 lety

      Yep, always use around 16 inches of leader with (and this is key) a ball bearing swivel. Check out our jigging rap storage video Steve. I think you will find it useful for you. Thanks for the comment :)

    When you take your jigging raps out of the pack the first thing you need to do is glue the lip. It's simple and it lasts permanently. Take a tiny bit of baking soda and put in the channel where the hook and the lip ride together. Then put a drop of super glue on the baking soda. It turns to instant concrete. I used to have the same problem. I have not lost one lip since started using this process

    • @fishitfirst2798
      @fishitfirst2798  Před 3 lety +1

      Will give that a try. Thanks for the tip! For the price, I feel like I’ll switch to Tikka minnows if they can produce the same numbers of fish!

      That's what I do here in Michigan for the Fall walleye run. First thing out of the package is some super glue. Your paint will come off before those fins will!

      If you have trouble with the glue I forgot to mention I use pros soft bait glue. It's by far the fastest drying glue I have ever seen. You have to be careful with. Another trick I use, since I rush everything. I keep a cheap hair dryer in my tool box. It really speeds up the process

    Bro two drops crazy glue gel on each side of the tail fin,then dip the whole lure, or brush two coats of epoxy finish never comes off,tail fin will break before it falls off,problem solved bro

    Would these work on most lakes in MN? LOW is bigger size lakes with a pretty healthy ecosystem. What about smaller waters with smaller ecosystems?

    • @fishitfirst2798
      @fishitfirst2798  Před 3 lety +1

      They have been successful on fisheries across the board. Matching the color to forage species seems to be a key to triggering the bite, so yeah, understanding the ecosystem of the lake would be important.

  • @hubertstrzalkowski1261

    So my little jigging rap came factory without the wing. Don't have the box anymore, but I just assumed that's how it was. And there isn't any paint chips or anything to tell me if there ever was a wing on it... huh. It is an ice fishing jig I believe if that makes a difference?

      Here's an idea. You know the clear plastic that encloses a lot of items you buy these days. Cut some of that in the shape you want and super glue it to the tail of your jigging rap. Experiment with it and see if bigger or smaller, or a different shape will maybe even give you a better action than the original tail did. You can make a bunch of these and just glue another one on when one comes off. DAP makes a fast glue that is even better than super glue. It comes in a little blue label bottle. Walmart has it in the automotive section with items like brakecleen, wd40, etc. Good luck.

    • @fishitfirst2798
