But there is one thing I do not understand which is, why is he not as concerned about, for simplicity's sake, 'woke' as I am? What a teacher Chomsky has been to me, for me, for so long now; I am eternally grateful, so very grateful. The journey has been priceless.
Noam Chomsky dislikes being pedestaled I imagine, despite the fierce veracity of what he speaks, about the 19th century through 21st century United States enslavement of workers, the embargoes US have been imposing on the gulf and those of the countries whose people are undergoing immense economic hardship. Chomsky also has the passion to be challenged and questioned whilst he strongly urges against different forms of capitalism that have proven as nefarious as amounting to disempowerment of labourers and their unionisation. Noam has a plenty more intellectual honesty and kindness to offer to the spheres of humanitarian education, as he is forthright in his appeals for the underdogs and underprivileged. May his students follow in his footsteps and continue to question the authorities of neoliberalism, their imperialistic structures.
Wisdom is not a word I take lightly. As if this man hadn't been a luminary of human cognition all along, with old age he gives us these words, distilled jewels to venerate on an altar. I hope we listen.

It's almost impossible to believe that he's 94, with how clear-headed and articulate he still is. I'm sure he has some old-age issues, like short-term memory problems, but it wouldn't surprise me if even those are much less severe than most people his age. Maybe this is the result of a life dedicated to thinking about truth, instead of the usual nonsense most people fill their heads with!

I find that most of chomskys critics either don’t understand his points or distort what he actually says. What I hear from him is a very straightforward account of the actual system. we have, how it functions and how we got here.
@@humanbeing5300 Chomsky has critics. That's for sure. What's of note, however, is how corrupt his critics are, and the more critical they are, the more corrupted they are. That's point number one. For point number two, I'm going to put it as a question. So, even if we accept that Chomski's critics are corrupt, does their questioning, bashing, etc., raise the level of the discussion? Of course not. Do you know why? If you think you know, please feel free to comment.

At the time, this great man was 94 years of age. 94!!! His recollection of dates, times, history, economics amongst many other topics is incredible. He would put men a quarter of his age to shame. IMO he is a living prodigy. All policy makers should be listening and shaping his ideas into reality. What a better world it would be.
Gotta say, my Dad , at 96, had the same razor sharp , clear thinking mind with excellent recall and detailed memory. Most of us have that natural ability. Many expect to lose abilities, to become old with time, and realize those expectations both mentally and physically. Better to emulate this kind of person intellectually and someone like Jack La Lane physically.
He is with us today out of sheer devotion to his life's calling. 🎉
Chomsky’s brain is always actively searching for answers. Great exercise to defer senility. I am 80 and still have creative thoughts and constant questions.

I definitely agree with the idea of CAREFUL implementation of any change on large scale. This is in a stark contrast with CARELESS or RADICAL change implementation ideas. I would add also the consideration of time scale. Observe the implemented change on a small scale in different time scales (over few generations, at least) before you announce you have something to offer to the public. Importantly, always start the experimentation on yourself.
I wish the volume were higher bc it's very difficult to hear what Noam is saying.
I’ve always loved the very pace and tone of his voice, which also force us to focus our full attention on the meaning of every word. How fascinating to follow the inexorable unfolding of his mind. Kind of sounds like listening to the mechanism of his brain at work. 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏
Why do you present this(with no date for this interview) as if it was just done recently? This is almost 4 years old.
The most important part of anything that is downloaded onto the internet(other than the actual content) is the date of the event, interview, report, etc. Why would you, as someone who cares enough to download something they must believe will be informative and of value, not see the value in identifying when this interview took place?
This simple standard of properly dating something really should be understood by everyone by now so it's quite maddening to see that it is not. Even in journalistic circles.

Thanks David for your comment. Why we didn’t specify that this interview wasn’t done recently? Honestly, one of the reasons was that we didn’t think that this was really important. Every video on CZcams is old in the moment when it is published, it doesn’t mean that it is loosing it’s importance or it’s value. The aim of our non-profit project is a discussion about fundamental questions (e.g.: Why does economics matters?), not about daily newsfeeds. Another one is that we simply forgot. Anyways, in the description the date of recording was added.
By the way: time is relative, yes, but not too much: the interview with Prof. Chomsky was recorded in December 2020, that means from today 2 years and 3 months ago. Not almost 4. Anyways, thanks again for your contribution.

In fact, there is no strictly economic or market mechanism whereby wages (the price of the right to use labor-power for a time) co-vary with the value productivity of *labor*. The whole *point* of the capitalist purchase and use of people's labor-power for a time to extract and appropriate labor with which to produce commodities for sale at a profit is to NOT pay pari passu more for the use of labor-power to appropriate more actual value-producing labor.

We will be researching, and learning from the sagacious teachings, and words of Noam Chomsky for a long time to come ❤️🤓👍.
One other aspect of capitalism is growth. Capital is only capital when it is reinvested to create further growth of capital. Without growth it dies. Achievement of capitalist growth relies on exploitation of workers and the environment.
Wrong…it’s not in the interest of the capitalist to exploit the workers and the environment because that wouldn’t benefit the capitalist. Also, if the worker believes he’s being exploited then he can leave that job. Capitalism unlike Socialism doesn’t use coercion on people. They are free to choose. Maybe spend some time studying Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell instead of this looney guy.

Joseph Schumpeter, the great Austrian economist was an important and influential proponent and developer of the then emerging branch of economics called Economic History. He contrasted Socialism Capitalism and Democracy in his book from the mid 30s with that title.
He contrasted the two economic systems and wrote that pure capitalism was the superior driver of growth. He posited that the undoing of capitalism would be the greed and self serving of the entrepreneurs who drive the capitalist economy.
Socialism, on the other hand, is much more responsive to the social and physical needs of the people yet is weaker as an economic driver.
The solution he proposed was based on the Hegelian Dialect which is; Thesis versus Antithesis yields a Synthesis.
In other words, a blending of the two systems in a new Social Democracy will emerge from a combination of regulated capitalism and socialism that will be a society that provide economic security and prosperity along with a safety net for all of society, sometime in a future democracy.
If you can imagine it, some day it might happen.

The Democrat socialists here in America point at the Nordic Countries as proof their system works when in reality it’s proof that socialism doesn’t work.
These countries have a very capitalist economy by having a free market and privatizing. The progressives have moved from the left to the center by lowering taxes, restricting welfare, and by limiting migration to their countries.
Lesson here is to stop listening to these old Marxist Bernie Sander types and start reading Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell. If you really care about helping people you would give up the progressive ideals and moved to capitalism. The welfare programs, minimum wage and public schools have hurt more people then helped.

Noam identifies as a Libertarian socialist, however in this video he loves government when criticizing Milton Friedman. In past interviews I’ve heard him talk about the evils of our foreign policy and then in the same interview he talks about how the United States offered so much opportunity and freedoms. The man speaks with a slippery tongue. Also, I wonder if he will leave his capitalist mega wealth to the poor workers of America or to his children?

Social engineering or economic engineering is responsible for what free markets or unregulated capitalism which is more accurate corporate investor rights for large companies this is what the neoliberal period brought abought, I was lucky that I had skills as a physicist and applied mathematician and worked for defense contractors and before that as a medical chemist and laboratory pathologist would of stayed at University of SUNY but there was no more research being done on theoretical theory of the unified field theory computer models are useless in these fields.

I don't always agree with NC on all issues. But here he once again shows himself to be a guiding light on matters related to economic organization and economic and social justice. Unfortunately, he's still indispensable.
The east of Europe was after the war on socialist system for more then 40 years and didn't work as well ,no neoliberal economy. The capitalism system is just from the middle of 90s which has been made some good improvement in the social and infrastructure life. It is not perfect, but what's the alternative? Make everything belong to the states?

He's 94. Use the captions. That's what I do. He's perfectly lucid in the actual words but yea can't really expect high quality sound from a 94 year old
