Traction was bad, and he burnt up the gas in the line, pump and bowel trying to get back up. Couldn't go down, it was a creek bank. I use a solvent called Disan or Disol in my country. It was used with all wick lighters and doesn't smoke like petrol. It is also used to remove the paint on fingernails. Petrol is used in emergency situations.
I looked up the MSDS sheet for Zippo branded fluid. Naphtha 25 to 50% and unnamed petroleum distillates 50 to 100%. So evidently there is something other than naphtha, but they aren't saying.
Soldiers in Vietnam did the same thing my history teachers father told me when they need a smoke they a get wire and run it through the tank fuel and fill up there lighters it did do some damage to the zippo but hey when you need a smoke it works in a pinch
That doesn’t make any sense. What do you mean They run wire into the fuel tank and then what? Magic happens and the zippo is full? Do you mean they used a hose or tube of some kind and then used a vacuum to siphon fuel out of the tank?
@@Jay22222 you'd hook the end of a long piece of stiff wire through one of the holes in the chimney to dip the whole liner down into a large fuel tank where it could soak up fuel.
You can use MEK as well but it evaporates very quickly. Been a long time since I've used my Zippo, but iirc it would usually run dry within a few days or so
In a situation where resources are scarce, this will do just fine. In a world where resources are plenty, stick with the zippo fluid. It’s a lighter. Don’t overthink it.
In my country Zippo sells their fluid for 4.5$ a piece, which is actually cheap for me, since I’m a smoker I use it a lot. But butane is still a bit cheaper I guess. A metal Clipper lighter with Clipper’s flints and butane seems like the most sensible lighter available today. They sell slim metal versions, and they’re just 10$. They sell their flint stones and butane for just about the same price with Zippo, but they’re extremely high quality just like Zippo. And they’re basically indestructible just like Zippos. All metal and sturdy. But still, a butane lighter starts to malfunction at certain temperatures and humidities. Also the wind is your enemy when you are using a butane lighter. Zippo is perfect for all conditions and for life. The only back-draw of a Zippo is the well known fluid vaporization. Which is the actual reason why you spend so much money on the fluid. The fluid itself is actually much more economical compared to the butane. But it vaporizes continuously during the day, and needs a refill every few days even if you don’t use it at all. But since I’m a smoker who also uses the lighter for outdoor stuff, Zippo is actually the only viable solution for me. Maybe apart from a butane torch.
If u want your lighter to stay in as good as new, u should use zippo fluid, it is very clean, filtered, gasoline might leave marks in the cotton or elsewhere
