    • @yesungsohn9482
      @yesungsohn9482 Před 3 lety +1

      hi this is a late reply but I'm a supply reservist at a motor transportation unit. Our unit hardly ever deploys and I've only ever seen active duty marines transferred to our unit ever go on deployments. I only work one weekend every month, ranging from 2-4 days. We have one 2-week training period in the summer, and I usually just go with the motor t marines. My average pay is about $100 a day, so it just depends on your rank and the amount of days you work. You cannot work more than one drill a month unless you're covering for a month ahead. However you can go on ADOS and go on active orders and work active duty and receive active duty pay for a period of time. I have a buddy who's been on ADOS for 6 months, but you can just do two weeks - just depends on how long you want to go on ADOS. The retirement system is a bit complicated for the reserves, but I think you have to do at least 20 years, but you'll only start receiving them once you hit 60 years old, in comparison to getting them right after you do your 20 years in active duty. You retire whenever you finish up your contract and don't want to renew your contract. Your first contract is most likely going to be 6 years to get reservist benefits (VA Loan, GI Bill Chapter 1606, Tricare Reserve Select). Like I mentioned earlier, I don't know much about the pension system for retirement as I plan to leave the Corps after my first contract. You can talk to a recruiter for more information and on what jobs are available in reserve units near you! Honestly a college degree isn't really beneficial for the enlisted reserves, but it most definitely will be for officer reserves. If you do what I am doing, then you'll go as an enlisted and won't be an officer. That's a whole different component in the military and you'll have to go to an academy for that, not bootcamp. Hope this helps!

    What is service management mos

  • @Siegefya
    @Siegefya Před rokem

    Were you in Iraq in around 08? You look familiar bro. Was also supply 3043. I'm kindof opposite... really did not like the job, but gave me some interesting experiences and knowledge, I put up with it and got out. Found the job to be tedious af, at my unit there was a ton of work...like work never ended kindof feeling...and long days, I was on the computer doing 3043 stuff working 4adds literally my second week at my unit (I was with V1/2), first week it was just "bich work" shredding stuff, labeling things they hadn't got around to labeling etc...but worked me into their Sop's to get up to speed, and by the time I was ready to get out.. I'd have done everything, I could be a supply chief. My favorite part of the job was doing the DFAS and sending out the currier every day, my least favorite part was anything involving CMR's, I absolutely hated that side of work. I wanted Infantry but recruiter told me I'd have to wait 6 months for SOI, in hindsight, kindof wish I waited the 6 months lol.... deployed twice Iraq 08 and Afghanistan in 2010, and... honestly we had to deal with a lot of bs in my shop...when line companies had to wait we'd hear it... they'd treat us like we could make the logistics process work faster, but weren't, acted like they knew our jobs when in actuality they didn't know anything. Had some angry company guns come to our shop and think they ran sht, pretty annoying..did my best to treat people cool but just like any other Pog mos who has to deal directly with the infantry side at an Infantry unit, you treat us with respect we'll treat you with respect. It was rewarding at times, and sometimes soul crushing... especially on deployment. I was the kind of supply guy to hook people up, or barter..made a lot of friends unit wide, from snipers in our weapons company, to some other infantry guys, to the other S shops...that was cool, just knowing so many people. Had to do a lot of supply convoy stuff over there which was hectic. But overall, it's a good MOS...very important MOS as well.. I'd say one of the most important MOS's but it's really not for everybody. After the guys left who trained me, and I took their spot as senior NCO in the shop...the guys who came to replace them...were interesting. 1 Guy absolutely hated the job he picked and was depressed about it, reminded me of me but worse as he never sucked it up and just did the work, I think he ended up getting himself kicked out or something after I got out, I really tried to work with him as I had been exactly where he was at, I know I picked the wrong mos first week of supply school, but I figured it out and learned to find ways to enjoy it, I didn't want to fail. Another kid...wanted supply was really sharp to the point I was impressed with him pretty quickly... but...he hated our unit...he wanted like supply battalion where they are not deployable, and don't have to get up at 0530 for PT and could PT on their own time, and don't have to go to the field...so he got depressed and I had a lot of issues with him at the barracks because he was getting picked on. Third guy, he was just normal...wanted to serve, picked up things fairly ok...but he didn't like to PT and damn near failed PFT multiple times, and all the other stuff required for our unit he really didn't like. In Afghanistan he was about to pick up CPL...had to go do guard tower watch, and ended up slamming the 240 down and having an ND situation happen...so he ended up getting busted down etc. Last guy who I trained before I got out...was the model supply Marine, he was like 5 years older than me...and took advantage of whatever he could and was just on point, was a PT stud as well...he reminded me of me, but actually didn't mind the job. He ended up going to MARSOC before he got out, not as an operator but as supply. Which reminds me...that is an option, to go there as supply or to put in a packet for selection. So I've seen a lot of different kinds of people in the Job, from the 43 and 51 side, my best friend is a 51...it's a decent job, but if you get sent to an Infantry unit... prepare to not be a "super Pog" as they call it as you will be going out doing training evolution as well as your job, you will have to pt every morning like the Infantry guys do, all the other none combat mos do it to. Now that there isn't a big war going on...I think it may have changed some idk. But that's my experience in it. Since I been out I haven't done anything remotely related to it besides working in a factory for a short time when I first got out.

      Question on MOS 3051 what do they actually do and do they cross train you within that field of 30x? How is the job like and do they see any combat?

    • @Siegefya
      @Siegefya Před rokem

      @@markgier5806 Great question and I'm glad you're asking before you sign any paperwork. 3051 is a warehouseman...they work in the units warehouse, accounting for the physical gear in the warehouse...that's as simply as I can describe it. Stuff comes in, they account for it...and store it in an organized way, when people come to pick stuff up they are there to issue it out and things like that. Usually get trained on a forklift etc. As far as cross training, when I was in...in my unit, pretty much no, we didn't really do that. We were usually too busy for it...I think there is a slow point where we tried to teach the 51's some 43 stuff and vice versa, we had to give short 10-15 min PowerPoint presentation on what our assigned duties at the time were, but it didn't last long...and 51's weren't coming into the office to do 43 work, that never happened, my best friend would come into the office and get on my computer to get on Facebook lol. I used to go out in the warehouse on slow days or if I was fast getting my work done and I'd help them out, I'd actually do that to get out of the office lol. When big things happen, for instance pre deployment gear comes in and unit wide Marines have to come down to our shop to get issued like uniforms or whatever, it'd be a team effort, we'd damn near close the office down and we'd all go out to the warehouse and help them... dealing with around a thousand Marines, we may have a working party from the other companies to help as well. As far as seeing combat, tbh bro... wartime is over right now, so unless this country goes back to war I'm doubting many MOS's seeing combat military wide unless you're talking special operations.. who are doing more low-key clandestine operations around the world currently. Did I or we see combat? Yes, on my first deployment I almost got killed a couple times, I had to run convoys a bunch of times and a couple times things got hairy, been shot at etc. We had a guy in my shop get blown up on a convoy in Afghanistan but he came out physically unscathed. In Iraq we were getting IDF (indirect fire, mortar rounds) dropped on us almost every night on one of the fobs we operated out of...but that's about it, it's definitely not a combat MOS, but you don't have to be in a combat MOS to see combat, my last supply Chief had a purple heart and a Combat action ribbon from his first deployment to Afghanistan, he was a supply Marine when that happened to him. That's about it I guess, sorry If it was long winded. Hit me up if you have any more questions. If I could do it all over, I wouldn't pick any kind of supply MOS, I'd choose something more combat oriented. If I'm being super honest I'd join the Airforce and try for their special operations selection.

      @@markgier5806 reserves aren't a waste of time, there's a lot of good benefits from being a reservist. I was a reservist in the Army after I got out of the Marine Corps, if you go reserves just make sure you have your civilian side of your life in order. So school, or a job or business or whatever...it's gotta be in order though that's the biggest thing about being in the reserves.
