- Comparing the final release version of WWF No Mercy to it's many beta versions. This video contains lots of differences, from character faces, attires, entrances, menus, create a superstar CAW mode, arenas and much more. WWF No Mercy Beta.
WWF No Mercy is a wrestling video game released in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 (N64) console, published by THQ. It is named after the World Wrestling Federation annual PPV of the same name. No Mercy is the follow-up to 1999's WWF WrestleMania 2000, and the last WWF game released for the Nintendo 64. No Mercy was well received by players and critics alike.
They should have went with beta rock the 1st one shown. Looks way more like him.

But it also looks exaclty like The Rock in Wrestlemania 2000
Chris Benoit's final look was foreshadowing. He went from the softer nicer faced guy into a mean one and we all know what happened years later.

Smackdown Mall was probably the most fun I've ever had unlocking stuff in a video game. Earn cash, buy move, place move on CAW. Simple, fun and kept you wanting more. When I heard rumors that Backlash was going to feature a Smackdown Mall with 4X the merchandise, I popped an excitement boner.
Ah yes, back when you pretend bought things buy playing the game and unlocking them - these days the 'Smackdown Mall' accepts all currencies except virtual!
Nowadays, they call them "microtransactions."
@Paul Bell My game never did that...I'm actually on my 2nd copy of the game because I sold my original copy, and this one also saves everything. Some copies had the infamous save file glitch while others did not.

Interesting note on the Rock and Big Show: Their faces can be unlocked on the final No Mercy too! 1.Big Show's face 2.The Rock Alternate Eyebrow Raised (modified mixture between Rock's WM 2000 and WWF No Mercy) face. Go to Smackdown Mall, Create A Superstar, go to Created Wrestlers or even go to the Rock keep in mind u can only have one of these activated one at a time and these can be saved permanently too. So when u go to faces, instead of a face number, it will read "RROR" Yes It is spelled "RROR" too. Save one of these faces then turn the system off. Turn it back on and activate the other face, it will do the same thing. Save both faces and u won't need a gameshark anymore as long as it's saved. NOTE: You must have a Gameshark 3.0 or higher.

I actually think the beta Angle looks more like he did at that time, despite the beta texture looking lower res than the final build's.

Yeah, Triple H was terrible! And he always appeared on story mode cutting promos so you could not stand him after awhile and his ugly ass face 🤦🏻♂️
You also can noticed that in the beta the Attitude meters are from the previous game, WWF WrestleMania 2000. An older build consists of the Superstar Select was from WWF WrestleMania 2000 just in the SmackDown! Arena texture.
LOL No Mercy's beta 3D models looks like WCW: Mayhem's own. Its good thing AKI worked on these models further rather then rushing it out like EA did with WCW: Mayhem.
The beta Rock looked better than constantly angry Rock.
It really strikes me as weird since this is the fucking Rock's game lol. You'd think they'd try to make the guy on the cover of the game look the best, right? Good luck on finding those files

Excellent video man. Would have been nice to see if they left any more Virtual Pro moves in or anything like that, but the beta character models are quite a treat.

I guess what we can gather from this is that No Mercy originally had more similarities to SmackDown! and SmackDown! Know Your Role before the final product. Great video.
They were made by entirely different companies though. Smackdown was made by Yukes. No Mercy was made by AKI/Asmik Ace. 100% different teams.

Such an incredible game, some massive jumps in detail going to the release version. But as someone pointed out the simpler version of the Rock's face looked like him, some looked like change for the sake of it - or perhaps were there licensing issues which meant they had to switch to more of a likeness??? This was already happening in the 90s with some sports players having to be changed to likenesses due to licensing.

As much as I wasn't very high on the Women's division back then, I'd be hard pressed to say that I wouldn't at least miss Lita, Stratus and Chyna.

No Mercy wasn't the best looking game even in it's prime.
But it's still the best wrestling game you can get.

Although No Mercy was the better game all around, WM2K had a lot of features that I like more than NM...There are superficial things like Kane's pants...I liked one of his pants options in WM2K that wasn't included in NM. The CAW face paint was better. You could create LOD and Sting and/or Ultimate Warrior. The increased resolution in NM made some of the face paint options in NM look smaller and awkward on faces. As others have said, the Rock's face looked better in WM2K than in NM. Same with Triple H's face. I also preferred Mankind's shirt and tie in WM2K to his NM attire. WM2K took place at the height of the Attitude era, while NM was on the down slope.
Then there are the game engine problems. Having 4 people on screen at the same time slowed the game down quite a bit in NM, while in WM2K the framerate stayed pretty steady. And I will never understand why entrances were cut in NM. The entire entrance consists of the wrestler walking down the ramp and then it cuts. I guess that had to cut them to save space for other options? IDK. That being said, I actually kind of like the shortened entrances...I usually skip them, but in NM they're so short that I typically let them play out. I love both games...NM is probably my favorite, but WM2K does have some things that I prefer over NM.

Beta means mid way basically. Betas are where Buggs and glitches are tested, seeing how things work and what needs to be changed. Think of it like an essay. The alpha is the plan and the beta is the essay before revision and grammar checks and etc...
