  • Doing something different over here on the channel today! I'm watching and responding to a video from Simon & Schuster Books featuring Mayim Bialik discussing Co-Sleeping from her book Beyond the Sling. Let's see where we agree and where we may detour.

Nice video! Honestly as a colleague of Maya’s (yeah I know shocker there are other Bioscience PhDs out there 😅🤯), I have serious concerns about all the attachment theory and vaccine scepticism narrative she is often advertising usually. But yeah this video wasn’t too bad, even though you are 100% right the safest place for a baby is an empty crib, period. My husband found me sleeping on an extremely dangerous position with my baby after nursing him one morning, no blanket or anything but I, the breastfeeding mum (!) had rolled onto him 😱. Same day we decided that we have to sleep train for the safety of everyone in our little family. Maya can do her own thing, but honestly I can only see cosleeping as crazy dangerous. Her beloved attachment theory also has zero scientific backing but that doesn’t seem to bother her 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your comment. At the end of the day, parenting (and mothering a newborn especially) is HARD! Each of us needs to find our path that feels right for our baby and ourselves ❤️ and I do think her perspective is truly very reasonable. Goodness knows sooooo many people co sleep, so best to do it as safely as possible.
