This is the best video I have seen to date for how to paint abs plastic from start to finish! Thanks for being thorough I am painting a front grille for my WRX now
Thanks so much I appreciate it! Best of luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask here or instagram!
sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any assistance you can give me!

@Elijah Jerome It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
Bro….you are NICE with it!!!
Just some advice I've painted many things from younger to now from wood to automotive, invest in a heat gun it will help you speed the process happy painting
I've been using a low-powered hair dryer for years to speed up the flash time in cooler temperatures slightly below 50F. It has worked very well without issue
You are awesome - thanks for recording - I know that is a pain - cute little baby and your mirrors look great!
Wow finally somebody doing a proper video on how to paint ABS plastic. I'm used to seeing the alcohol, primer, paint, clear. Lol now this is the proper way to do it, thank you so much, I'm doing the interior trim on my Mustang
i appreciate u making an in depth video on this. looking to spray paint some mirror caps this weekend
Damn bro for a diy guy great fucking job. Very professionally done. That white is incredibly bright but you can see how smooth they are.
Excellent video! I’m getting ready to add OE fender flares to my Ram 2500. Very helpful video!
Painting plastic is no problem at all as long as you use the adhesive promoter. Also it doesnt look like these mirrors have that heavy of a texture but could just be because it's hard to see in a video
“The fan pulling out” lol. Keep up the great content!!!
haha thanks man!!
Awesome directions and video! Thanks! I’m gonna give it a shot on the trim pieces on my truck bumper 🤘🏼
Andy Navarro thanks! Good luck!
Thank you for your service son.
Professionals don’t put 2k on top of plastic because it cracks, they don’t put primer on to the adhesion promoter because the adhesion promoter pulls the paint into the plastic. Just because you can do it doesn’t mean it’s correct.
I’m gonna let y’all know it’s not a bad idea to do all those preps but I just painted mine without doing anything to the plastic and did some clear coats and it turned out perfect. Not much to it reaply
This is an old video just wanted to see how it held up over time? I’m going to do mine on my 2023 Ram this winter
How are these holding up to date?
Dude your a beast with the spray can stuff ! Great content you put out !
Thank you! i appreciate it!!
Can you do a video on how to do the wet sanding on gloss I always seem to screw up when doing that. And then I don't know if I'm supposed to use a polisher a compound or how all that works. Or maybe you even have a video that you can point me to already.
What if you wanna leave the texture and not sand your mirrors flat?
omg, before watching i subbed because i have the same freaking cans on my project.. i know how to paint but i have some after market fender flares on my jeep that are kicking my butt and just seeing what is out there
Great vid man, will be doing this to a rear diffuser I got for my mustang in white as well...already got all the nessary hardware that you recommended...by the way your mirrors came out like factory. Beautiful truck. Love it great job 👍🏼🤙🏻
sean j I appreciate that thank you!! Best of luck! Hit me up if you have any questions!
Why didnt you just remove the mirror caps? Thats how I did my Ram and it was so easy
Thanks this gives me more confidence to try it myself
That looks really great on your truck.
Great video. Very good info. Your anchor tattoo would be alot cooler if it were a Marine Corps Eagle Globe and Anchor Tattoo. So its ok I guess. Coulda done w/out the sniffles though. But. Thats what Id expect from a dag-on nasty Squid. Lock it up.
Dick Fitswell lmao thanks man I’ll make sure to take extra allergy meds just for you next time haha
Im going to spray paint one of my audi a5 windows white...the paint has peeled off!!!!
Does that Rustoleum sealer match the other products in terms of chemistry? If it is lacquer based it might not bond well to other products.
Great video just wanted to know if you can still see the little bumps of the plastic and I know it's been 3 years Did it chip away and how long you think it would last before it chips away Thank you I really appreciated
I want to know the same thing
Looks good! Good job....nice tutorial!
Do you have a video of wet sanding process?
Can you list the products you used, so we can know what product to buy in the color(s) we need.
Very Nice work. I'm doing a set of aftermarket GMC Sierra Towing mirrors, two-tone white and black. Should I paint everything white first, then tape off the white after a few days of curing and then spray the black?
I realize this was 4 years ago but 2k is now around 40 and change these days!" Nuts
I know this is an old video, the 2k clear has I believe 24hour pot time. 👍🏻
What grit sand paper did you use when you wet sand the clear coat ?
1500, 2000, 2500
Great video. How much were all your supplies?
Seth Nugent thanks! Right around $50-60
How long did you wait to install the mirrors back on after clear coat?
Awesome video!!!
Carina Melo thanks! I have them a full 24 hours to cure before handling them!
Wait as long as you can (at least a few days)! I've tried to re-install parts after 24 hours when the clear is dry to the touch and nicked it with the mounting hardware.
I’m having trouble, my clear coat is peeling off
If you still have the truck how are they holding up with flaking and rock chips?
zero flakes or rock chips still look brand new
Nice job brother
Hm would this work with Jeep plastic fenders?
Damn I wish you were close by I would totally get mine done by you
dude I am not making fun of you that was a good video but you should try some Sudafed before your next shoot that would really help the audio. I learned some stuff thanks
Great video. Would it be the same for painting splash guards on my F150 or do you already have a video on that?
Any tips for the initial sanding? Going to attempt my textured plastic engine cover tomorrow
Ricky Kennedy lots of sand paper lol it gums up pretty quick but other than that it sands pretty easy
When you sanded your filler primer what are you looking for? Will there be bare spots or if there are does that mean you went to far down?
Good work! No Orange peel at the end? Did you need to polish the clear coat one it dried to make it shine?
How many cans of the 2K primer did you go through? Also, after you wet sanded the clear coat, what did you use to polish it afterwards?
Great job bro
Ya if you dont use that 2x clear on your fisnih it just won't come out looking shinny OEM finish garunteed!" Oh ya dont forget the blow! Sniffsniff" j/j good job btw dude
so does this work with the plastic step pieces on a back bumper? anyone know?
Does the white Match the truck good or is it brighter?
Bro very helpful video. I just need some more help please. Im trying to paint my car’s diffuser with the same textured plastic. I sanded it down first with 400 grit and sprayed adhesion promoter and base coat and then clear but that came out so horrible, so many lines and tons of scratches and textures were visible and super sticky. So I planned to do it all over again. I sanded the whole panel down to bare plastic with 80 grit (went wild on it) and smooth it out with I guess 320 and 600 but there are a lot of deep scratches due to 80 grit sanding or what not and some scratches were already there. What can I do to overcome this problem? Thanks man
best thing to get out those deeper scratches is to move up slowly in grit. start right sbove 80 at 120, then 180, 220, etc just move up slowly. 320 wont have enough grit to take out 80 grit scratches
So the part of the mirror you painted is smooth just like the body of your truck?
thatrebelboy48 yes all the texture is sanded out of it so it’s smooth
Nice video! Did you sand the color coat at all?
nope went right into clear after the base dried
Etching primer an paint I've been painting cars for yrs
Will this also work for my upper bumper cover?!
If it's textured plastic like shown on the video of course 👍.
Do you really need sanding paper to sand it?
Where did you get all this
Did you clean with alcohol??
Nice touch
How much you spent on those materials?
Miguel Hernandez like $50 I think
fan+white truck=overspray all over truck
Hows it holding up?
How long did you wait after clear coat to wet sand it?
Jack Branston I’ve been recommended 24 hours
They look gud.👍🏾
Would this be the same way to paint fender flares?
ocrushjam you bet. Same concept applies
Brandon Clark thanks
What sand paper did you use after you applied your 2k clear coat?
1500,2000,2500
Why did you have to sand it after applying 2k clear coat, I wanna know so I don’t mess up.
To get rid of the orange peel.
That runny nose tho in the background lol
Hey man do you think this process would work the same for plastic interior pieces?
for like trim pieces? or you talking like textured like the dash?
@@BrandonClark563 like trim pieces that are smooth
@@rosbelvillarreal4641 absolutely. you wouldn't need to start with such a low grit sandpaper though on smooth plastic. start with 400, primer, sand primer with 600, them you can spray color
And what about textured plastic interior trim pieces like the dash board?
Fan bad idea with truck there
Thanks for the video looks good though
I’m planning on doing the fender flares on my f250, roughly how much paint should I need in your opinion? Thanks
I would say at least a can per flare. that duplicolor perfect match specifically is really thin
Nice video, but I suggest spray some afrain before the video, so we don't have to hear snot noises during the whole video. Grosses people out.
are you really that sensitive that youre grossed out
Badass! Thank you for the video
Painting trim plastic should be no different than painting raw plastic bumper, same steps
Someone sounds stuffed up 😅
Whatever over spray that fan picks up blows it right into your Ram...
Scott B I thought about that shortly after I started. There was a strong enough side wind it didn’t hit the truck. Good catch though lol thanks!
@@BrandonClark563 the only reason I caught it was because I've done it lol
Very good video though! How are they holding up? How long has it been now?
Scott B thank you! Been roughly 6 months on and they still looks brand new. Since getting the new wheels that stick out past the wheel wells I was afraid of rock chips but they have no damage at all!
You got the coronavirus or what brah?!
Dude sounds congested as fuck. I mean damn should have waited to make this video.
Would you stop bloody sniffing
Bla Bla Bla
Emilio Cruz do you feel better now for such a worthless comment?
