For anyone who still having trouble choosing the external sd to download games from steam, just do “exit big picture” and still follow tutorial of this video
An easier way to do this is to use ROG Ally to format your SD Card to NTFS. Voila! You can choose it when you install your game and choose the folder too.

How do I use microsoft store?????? My disk came completely full when I bought it and I got a microsd card so that I can play games but when I try to install it, it will only let me install on the C: drive

I figured out how to “move content” from one library to another on steam but when I press Y, the ally doesn’t respond. Any thoughts?

I don't suppose you can install games to the sd card while it's in your windows pc, then insert the card into the Ally? Same account and everything.
Keeps “allocating space” or whatever for the D drive on steam.. and it just keeps “allocating” for hours and never actually downloads.. what is going on? Should I download to hard drive and then switch folders to the micro SD?
I might try reformatting the Micro SD card if that is the case. If you already have stuff on it, you might want to eject it and take it out and then reboot and put it back in.
How do you access your SteamDeck content from the microSD on the ROGALLY? I have emulated games and want to extract it before I wipe/format it?
You may have to use a 3rd party app to access it and send the files from the Steam Deck. You could try AnyDesk. You can also use Winpinator to transfer files between Windows and Steam Deck.

If my Sandisk extreme pro doesn’t format to ntfs is that a problem? It only does to exFAT
I would think you could get it to format by going into Disk Management and deleting the volume and recreating like I did in my video. If it still doesn't work, exFAT should be fine to use.

I used to have gamepass, but I’ve recently gotten rid of it and don’t see myself getting it again. The only reason I would want to get this device is if I would be able to download my Xbox games on it and be able to play them on the go. Is that possible with this device? I understand that this device is basically a portable pc that you can play games on, but I don’t own any games on pc. I only own games on Xbox specifically. Yes it’s possible, but only if it’s an Xbox Play Anywhere digital title or through game pass. You can play them offline and anywhere you’d like

another great video. question/comment. all of my downloads that i am doing into my sd card are extremely slow, and the downloads keep stopping, and starting constantly. making all dl's take a very long time. any tips, advice on a fix for this?
MicroSD cards can be slower than your download speed. So it may pause the download to write to the card, then go back to the download. This is the same on the Steam Deck. With the MicroSD you either wait it out, or you could download to the C: drive and move it after. Keep in mind some gaming platforms do not make it easy to move games such as Epic.
@@RypperGaming yeah, i get that, but single digit dl speed on a 1 gigabit fiber, and it completely stopping, for a few seconds, then continuing the whole time?
what i just did in the last few minutes is take out the card ally, now I'm plugged into my hub that i have. seems to working much better. when i took the sd out of the ally, it was very hot. i think the sd card is temperature throttling itself. the location of the sd mount on the ally seems to be pretty terrible. it's on top of that hot air exhaust.

I did the partition format. I did not find it there. I went on to my computer, actually went out and bought a miracle as the adapter. And it works fine on the computer.

Does micro SD effect gaming performance as in FPS or only load time?
It affects load time for sure. Games with high end graphics will be affected too due to it being slower to load the assets. I tried Diablo IV on my MicroSD and it did not go well.
Hi, when following the steps for installing steam games I keep getting the message that I'm missing downloaded files every time I download something to my SD card. Is there a fix you know of? Ive tried repairing my libraries and verifying files but nothing works. Thank you if you can help.

I install forza horaizon 5 for test on sd card, sanddisk golden card which is fastest option i think, it is super slow, lunching game take 5 minutes, lodaing take around 3 minutes just to play it will take 10 minutes once you start it run smooth, i don't recommed installing any game bigger than 50 gb on sd card if it less than 50 gb go aheaf if it is more download it on ssd
You are correct that larger games are best played off the hard drive. There are lots of smaller games that play perfectly fine on the MicroSD Card though.

I noticed when you were downloading the Xbox games it said My PC games. Will I be able to download the games I have on my Xbox as long as I sign in on my Microsoft account? I only purchased games on console.
Some Xbox console games work on PC also, it really depends on the game. If you have Game Pass Ultimate you can play game on both PC and Xbox.

Can you transfer games from 1 drive to the other? Say I have a triple A game on my SD Card, but I want it on my internal drive, the steam deck will let you transfer that game to the main drive, will the ROG Ally do the same?
Yes, and I highly recommend you download all games to the SSD then transfer them to the MicroSD card as downloads directly to the MicroSD card are limited by the write speed which drastically increases the download time.

You can transfer games, but it is easier on the steam deck because you are only dealing with the Steam Library. Each Launcher has a method, but some are a pain. Steam and Battle.net are the easier. For Battle.net just move the folder to the other drive and Locate the Game in Battle.net. If you have a specific game/launcher you want to know about let me know. Epic Games and Xbox Games are the worst to move around btw.
If a game is already installed, how do you move it from the internal storage to the microSD?
That can vary depending on the store. Xbox, Blizzard and Steam have ways in their settings to move games between storage locations.

Can you verify if it is a U3/A2 card. It should show on the card itself. If it is a slower card it may not be suited for gaming use.

Any recommendation for SD cards?
There are lots of videos on best cards for Steam Deck, and I don't have all of them to test. I will say I use a Lexar Play which is linked in my descriptions. I have had some people mention you need a Sandisk Extreme Pro because of the heat. I have had no issues with any of my cards though. The biggest thing is to make sure the card is U3/A2. You should see it in the pics of the card you buy. Range for 1TB cards is 60-130 depending on which one you get.
My micro card slot wont read certain micro cards. Any idea why?
I have a video that helps get your MicroSD card working. Asus has been known to have some defective SD readers so that is something to consider also.

Step one: you don’t because the fucking sd card slot doesn’t work.
I wish I could help more on that, but I hear Asus is working on it. Fortunately I haven't had any issues yet, but I do play most of my stuff on the internal drive since I upgraded it.

yeah, this device is about to get thrown in trash. sd card formats perfect on pc but go to use on this trash device it only shows 145gb out of 500gb... ASUS with yet another dog shit quick cash grab product
