RAMP is a community project running in June, aimed at encouraging beginners to try mapping for Doom! Anyone is welcome to join, and I would love to see what you make. Here's a very quick guide to making a functional Doom map.

I really love how you explain and show things. It really helped me when I created my first map. Never cease doing this, because we all benefit from it.
Thanks :) It’s great to know that people find these helpful!
There's so little modern doom map building content on CZcams, anytime I find someone sharing knowledge I watch all the videos, I'm learning to map and there are lots of things I don't understand yet.
Remember viewers, Floor To Floor if you want the wall to open towards the floor, Ceiling To Ceiling if you want the wall to open towards the ceiling.
I used to do alot of mapping in like 1998-2000. These tools are wonderful. Your making me want to get back into it.
I would be delighted to cause that :)
@DavidXNewton Doom II was my life in HS and Uni. Somehow, youtube started showing me videos about it this week. This video really demonstrates how much just a live 3d mode alone changes the process.
I'm gonna be free from the 19th of June, may have to work very quickly haha, very excited to hopefully make something for this!!
Nothing like watching you making a map to get my hyped about making my own.
The youtube algorithm blessed me with the ramp 2022 videos last week and got hooked to play doom again. also your style of teaching made me think on starting to learn about making levels, I'll try to give it a go and hopefully upload a level for the 2023 project, thank you for the inspiration :)
Fantastic - it's good to have brought you back to it :)
Your videos have reignited my love of doom mapping. I’ll be submitting something for sure.
Excited to submit my map for RAMP!
Watching you just build actually helped me get a feel for building. Im glad i warched this. I just started. Basically 2 days in. Cant wait to keep trying!
Man, I remember doing two of the DUMP projects back in the day. They were effectively the only maps I'd ever made, other than a handful I was trying to put together to go with an old zdoom weaponset/monsterset I made. You're really making me want to go back to it.
Shapes really weren't my forte at the start and you pointed it out in my map 5 - the rooms were nothing, but gigantic boxes. 9 isn't that boxy, but 16 is very much like that and I'll recreate it eventually, especially the cave maze it starts with. Then a different issue I had was the lighting. Now in my new map I still am struggling to make fitting lighting variation. I'm trying hard, so let's see how it will turn out in the end.
Still my past as an engineer prefers boxy rooms at times. But you see how much I learned about variating them, putting different heights and getting creative with shapes. It's a task you can only learn while making new maps.
Another thing is that I actually make the staris this way - select all of the steps, then unselect every step once it's at the level you want it. Still though I never knew about this Ctrl+Shift+click. That makes your life a lot easier!
I love the texturing, all the options.
I'm instantly subscribing because you have the key strokes on the side. I'm so glad for that
Thank you! It was someone else who suggested it, I’m glad it’s useful :)
Time for some 3d flooring
Gosh I wish designing levels in Unity or Blender was this intuitive.
They're not called Zombierabbits. They're called Former Buns.
Did you mean to put the link to RAMP 2023 in the description instead of RAMP 2022? Cus currently it's for 2022.
Fixed it, thank you - there’s a lot going on :)
@@DavidXNewton Understandable.
You explain pretty well and I still learned a few things even if I'm not planning on making maps just yet.
At one point the thought "do these former humans clash with my curtains?" randomly ran through my mind.
Also, I really appreciate all the work the Doom modding community has been doing creating extra assets.

It would be nice to have a video like this for mapping with SLADE. There isn't a single proper SLADE video tutorial out there and that's a shame.
Thank you so much, very professinal teaching
Just a heads up, the walls on the first lift don't have textures. I like your videos, thank you for doing them
Love your videos
Looks like fun
david, you forgot to mention about the PgUp and PgDn when moving the sectors height
Oh yes! I keep forgetting they're there but they're very useful tools
@@DavidXNewton also I think it would be cool if you teach us the easier way to make stairs
The lift doesnt work, i did it exactly like you did. I also did the thing where you touch the line and it opens up the walls when you get the blue keycard exactly like you did but theres no lines going to them like i see in the video and it doesnt work
I had no idea ctrl+F9 did that o.O no more clipping to the part I'm testing!
Hey late to the show on this one but is it still possible to get the Starter pack I am new to mapping and am interested in the extra textures that where included
Yes! You can get the two texture wads from the Resources section on ramp2023.teamouse.net/rules.php
@@DavidXNewton awesome thank you
can you combine doom, blood, heretic, etc. in one game
based
how do you add a exit
??????????
Exits can be switches or walkover lines - look for the Exit Level or End Level actions in the linedef properties.
I don't see a lot of videos of people building doom maps I might start making videos that I do that in it would be on my pc account not this one
I own a wholesale company that deals with working equipment and tool accessories. Our employees are predominantly young men, and there seem to be an interest for 90s games among them. I am personally very fond of Doom, and have been toying around with the idea of making a mod for doom intended for competitions. Something that could be played on the day before payday, and completing certain in-game tasks could release a bonus or something.
Creating maps seems to be fairly easy, but could anyone provide me some good resources for spriting? How would one go about creating a sort of currency? Can dialogue boxes be create to interact with NPCs? And can their behavior be altered? I want to enable our employees to haggle with prostitutes and lie to the police, and win something IRL if successful.
