- The Schroll 32 has been moving along quickly these past few months and its almost time to blow everything apart for paint. The last few things we need to work on are the wiring and finalizing the seat placement. Matt and Steve get started on mounting the small fuse block and running some of the basic ignition wiring. Recently Matt purchased a seat frame from a local viewer and modified it to fit in the the heavy channeled 32. After modifying it off camera Matt is adding hinges and little feet to allow the seat to hinge forward allowing access behind the seat. Once the seat pan is finished, Matt heads over to a local upholstery shop that did the interior on the Free-T and the carpet for the 1934 Ford Tudor. Matt and Joe work together on planning the color and design of the interior!!

Man this car is coming along awesome. Gonna be a blast to drive and show!
I was thinking of dark/forest green on the outside with mint green inserts and piping. That would tie the body and motor colors together nicely.
Oh snap! I was thinking 'school bus seats' even before you said it.
Wiring is one of those necessary evils. Lots of work but kinda tedious. The seat is gonna look really nice and old school. Looks like you have to work of the lower part of the door panels a little. The door had to get slammed pretty hard. Look forward to seeing more progress. Be safe and stay well.
The door has to be slammed “hard” regardless. I haven’t adjusted the door anymore.
Morning Matt, progress!! that's what we like, you might just have the Schroll Coupe moving under it's own power by the end of the summer...it's nice being self employed...come & go as you please!!
God Bless!!!
Used to rebuild switches all the time when I worked on boats.
I would not have guessed the clutch would be hydraulic. Love the build.
I agree Dave. While you may think hydraulic would be less maintenence I have had like 4 cars/trucks with hydraulic clutches. First its replace the slave cylinder then later its the master cylinder. Plus I never cared for the pedal disengauged / engauged short distance. I now have a Polaris Slingshot with a hydro clutch and my '63 Bug with a cable clutch often you have to adjust yourself when you first drive each one. Matt this is a intresting build. I always thought channeling the body was so cool but never thought about the problems channeling causes..
Hey Matt, it's coming along very nicely!! While you were sitting in the new seat frame loved the little gear shift pretending to drive. The expression on your face says it all😎
man i love this project! who am i kidding... all of 'em!
looking forward to the head swap on the pagoda city coupe too.
An old voltage regulator cover or box cover with old Ford script might look cool over fuse panel.
Really coming along!!!! 👍👍👍
Great progress...Love your build choices for parts. A great-looking car. Hang in there, man!
My OCD appreciates yours!! Can't wait to see the interior finished.
Good to see the Schroll 32 coming along my imperial is looking good running and driving waiting for carpet and getting the exhaust on the 28th. Maybe 2022 we can have a reunion of Larry's cars that w
That would be really cool to have a Schroll car collection meet!!
Great video. Wiring was one of those jobs on mine that I dreaded so I had a buddy who knew what he was doing complete it for me. Ever think of throwing in a master disconnect switch as a safety/anti-theft on the car? Great if you go on a trip somewhere and stay overnight in a motel ... Flip the switch and be done with it.
Keep up the good work.
Greg aka thehotrodbuick
Matt look at piping and contrasting colors that match the steering wheel . That faded cream look.
Just a great video. Cheers to you Matt.
Like this upholstery video and your explaining decisions
Hope you do a video with showing how your going to do the kick plate... that would be nice cause I have my seat done over and door panels and the carpet. That’s the only thing I need yet for the interior😁hope you can do that video if not that’s cool I know your busy with a lot of stuff😀😀😀😀 great video ty Steve
I really enjoy your video’s. I get a lot of ideas from them. Thanks.
You could use a hammer tone paint, which will loosely resemble the carpet on the lower part of the door instead of the carpet, that way you wont have to slam the door closed.
I wouldn't put carpet below the floor level. Make a two part panel, top down to the floor and paint metal below.
i was thinking the same.
@@Ecosse57 Me to but then i thought any rub will show. Same stuff as on the seat will be thinner glued to alloy??
I was thinking of texture paint or thin leather below the floor line. Paint could be touched up quite easily if needed.
I've used that fuse block for wiring a 12v circuit on golf carts. Super easy. I just had to make a separate 12v ground
Funny you should mention paint... INCOMING! Should be at your PO BOX by Monday.
That is going to look awesome! I enjoyed meeting you today at the swap meet. A real surprise! How weird is it that I meet you next to a Brickland. A car neither of us would want to own, But so rare I had to stop and look. Likely I made no impression at all, but thanks for taking some time out to talk with me and pose for a photo.
All the best!
Mike, East Palestine, Ohio
Thanks for stopping to say hello! Nice to meet you!
Really like this project. Especially the Rocket 🚀 power. Thanks for sharing
JT
My “things being unlevel” OCD is kicking in looking at that seat back. At least it will be hidden. (I would always think about it when I sat in the seat!!)
It’s going to look great!
Agreed but at the price of wood I wasn’t replacing it just for that reason.
@@IronTrapGarage I don’t blame you. I bought 2 pieces of thin plywood for interior panels . $48 Canadian….$39 U.S. Used to be less than $24.
Moon's coupe. Please for one episode put on a set of Moon spun wheel disks, NOS or used vintage.
Always wondered what a forest green Carhartt interior would look like in an early chopped or channeled pick-up? Or burgundy?
Great tip on the fuse block. I've looked and found some other block connectors for my 57 Bel Air, but the fuses are the bomb.
As I watched you think through the seat and window crank, I wondered if a notch in the middle of the seat back might be easier to access. About 10 inches wide and 4 or 5 inches down.
Cool Video! I always incorporate one or two simple anti-theft features into the wiring , so it would take someone some time with a test light/meter to figure out what is going on before they can steal it.
Cool video of wiring and the interior work you picked out
this car is my favourite
After the last photo at the end, I think you should change the name to “Moons 32”.
I vaguely remember a rodder telling me he went to a manufacturer that handled material for commercial applications (busses/airplanes/etc) for his seat/headliner material. Very high quality and wear-resistant (read: expensive) fabric. I can't remember if he was looking for a certain pattern or an odd color, but that's where he found it.
The single piece of carpet seems to be a interference fit. What about the carpet on the sill? Two layers of carpet would be interference for sure. Or maybe the outside of the sill is painted, not carpeted. I think both the sill and door should be painted, after you sheath the bottom of the door in metal. Maybe a textured paint to mimic the carpet texture? 👍😎👍
liking the handheld selfie style filming ! content is amazing as usual
Just bought my first flattie, 49 8BA.
When you first brought up the door card carpet was what I thought of too.
Our Bluebird bus seat covers are gray, burgundy and blue.
I like that he's got a MO-KAN shirt on.
Fandamntastic background music, especially during the seat hinge welding! Keep it coming. dw
Matt I just have seen one of your teaching welding videos from Eastwood I’m watching thinking I know this guy were do I know him from finally it all added up in my mind you 👀 looked so young!!!!! Can’t believe I’ve been watching you for so long!!!!!!!!
Hard to believe! Time flies!
Is Moon a good driver?
Coupe is shaping up nicely!
i use dialectric grease to help hold off corrosion and add lube for switches.
I'd just go with a brushed or engine-turned aluminum (or stainless) panel at the bottom of the door card. You don't really need the carpet, which won't even be visible with the door closed.
My thoughts exactly. Once the doors have been opened and closed a few times, carpet is going to mark & look shabby.
Why not to bomber seats that would have took care of the problem about reaching the rear window regulator and clearances to boot and it is period correct. Love your show👍👍
Make a panel to cover the bottom of the door and paint it. This will give you room to carpet the side of the floor which is exposed when the door is open
Or just glue the vinyl to the bottom panel. Another option is a full door card and only pad to the floor line and glue bottom section to door card without the padding. Ekeminates the need of the second panel.
I really have to ask.
I have seen you do other wiring but you never use loom material to help protect the wires. Why ?
I know it's not correct, but motorize the rear window.
Two tone the seat!!!!
LOL, you should put a bubble top on it so Mike can fit.
About the tach sending unit... they require a battery that in my experience is no longer available. Good news is there are people who can modify them so they will work. 😀
Where's the Boss? She hasn't been on in ages ---love the vids
Busy working
After the comment Matt made on her thighs, she might be a bit self conscious and embarrassed 😆😆😆😆😆😆
If you run the floor carpet down the side... then you will have TWO layers of carpet.... make sure your door will close with that much material...
I've never understood why some people dred wiring work. I guess my ease, with wiring jobs, comes from doing so many stereo systems, as a kid.
Matt if you use aluminum on the door to mount your carpet you will end up with a rotted door in the future. Aluminum and steel hate each other as far as corrosive quality's caused by a metallurgic reaction between the two metals. You can do what you want but do some research before you settle on that combo.
Maybe if it was left out in the weather for 100 years. It’ll never be a problem in my lifetime in indoor storage.
Old switches are of better quality than the Chinese garbage switches that are available today.
Nice cool stuff
I like the Seat , I might build one like that instead of reworking the 'Caravan" seat I have
I work on older guitars, and the remedy to keep the dirty, and corroded pots and switches alive is a spray called deoxit it not cheap, a small can is like $20.00 but a small shot cleans most electrical parts back to working order in minutes without taking them apart.
I wrote down that deoxit you talk about. My dad gave me this giant very expensive receiver he got oversees but the volumn control is horrible. Its a cool setup but to tell the truth the only reason I keep it is cause dad (RIP) gave it to me.
Nice steering wheel!
seafome green
Are you planning on leaving slits in the seat for seat belts to come through it? You might want to consider that . I like the idea of that dark green vinyl that will look really sharp.Dual master cyl. for brakes?
The seat bottom and back won’t be stitched together.. can fit seatbelts between.
Lookn good men! 👍
You might want to brace the back that plywood is going to break the first bump or acceleration.
I'm using two vintage 1958 450 Holley's on the 6.71 and SBC in my 26 T ratrod. Having trouble deciding what to use for air cleaners? I have velocity stacks on the two fours on the big block in my 55 Chevy 210. I want something different for the rusty patina'd rat rod. I've seen some aluminum tubing used. I've checked out the local scrap and steel yards but no luck finding any. Any idea where I could find that stuff that size and what would I use for air cleaner material and how would I secure it? Great video's. Thanks.
Enjoyed the walk thru of upholstery considerations...IDEA...what if instead of doing the lower carpet /aluminum door card you do a "quilted" beadroll design down there? May be a little thinner if you roll it in lighter. Looking good.
Not a bad idea but it shouts “modern street rod”. Just not right for this car
@@IronTrapGarage yep...it could do that...machined swirls???? I'm reaching now
Validation.....yessss
I beadrolled my full interior of my 32 Buick ... Seats, door cards, kick panels and even floor mats. It's not traditional but I'd say it looks far from being a street rod. You could always roll a pattern then hit it with black paint to match the carpeting.
But if you have carpet also on the inside rockers would it then not bee too thick? How about just painted metal at the bottom of the Door card? or are you planning on just stopping the inside carpet at the edge and painting the horizontal?
Yellow piping like the Oldsmobile lettering on the motor.
Nahhh
I wonder what that rod would look like if you did the body in day glo green....
Where did you source those hinges without screw holes?? At the bottom of your doors, why can't you make a "heavier" gauge, painted, metal piece with a couple of horizontal beads for style. If you want to get "clever", between the beads, have the metal piece CNC cut to say
"Schroll", use a white plexi piece behind the cut metal with a led backlight. Kinda like what you see on the sill plates of Mercedes. ???? Lots of room in the bottom of the door and a simple door switch could operate the lights.
Maybe an engine turned strip of aluminum the depth of the channel on the bottoms of the doors.
Hey great video as always! Was wondering if you can help me I’m looking for a door hinge pin for a 31 model a just need one but would buy a pair if you are selling any.
You can buy them brand new.
@@IronTrapGarage thank you new to this ,building a 31 hot rod so don’t know what’s out there or not yet
you could mabey go with a thinner vaneer
How about a aluminium panel not carpeted on the door trim , engraved with ‘Schroll’ ? Maybe ….
when i was a young man now 64 old timers took the old ford starters and powered all kinds of things. i had a winch that was powered by a old ford starter they had made it run forward and reverse for up and down. do you know any old timers that know how to convert these old starters. i bought a winch today that uses one of these starters but the starter is missing looking for someone who might know how to convert or modify these starters
Not sure if there's room for you and Moon at the same time.
Did you ever get the car fixed for your dad i would like to see him drive it
Battery in trunk with fuel tank...what could go wrong...
are you going put in seat belts?
have you heard about the rodent proof electrical tape Honda makes no this is not a joke its for real amazon has it but Honda auto company makes it
Ready to ride?
Great work , You could use the seat pins & grommets for a Polaris Ranger pin # 5910096 grommet # 5412507 available on amazon they will hold the seat from flipping
Thanks for the tip!
What breed is Moon? He is adorable and I would like a Moon>
Hound/Great Dane mix!
@@IronTrapGarage thanks for the feedback!
I'm not sure if you plan on selling the car in the future but being a ol upholstery guy I would have done it in black or a brown/tan. if anyone painted the car there locked into a green.. Just my thoughts...
Not sure you get the idea behind saving survivor hot rods.. the idea is to keep it this way. Not for resale to some one to make it a cookie cutter street rod
@@IronTrapGarage I do get it but not sure everyone else does....
bit more your credit to your helpers
Where’s Andrew been?
Come on ,no glass fuses???????
Summers here matt could use sum more tattoos my friend
No carpet on doors just paint it
Mint Green and Light Grey. Dark Green and White are HORRIBLE together.
👍👍🇨🇱
Shave your carpet
why not make the rear window electric ?
